 | Hi. I have an old Toyota Camry 2.2 1998 manual transmission, with 280k km. It has started to rust around the gas cap, and is now rusted through the inner weel arch. The hole is letting water through the trunk well and it's not going to pass next annual inspection. Do you have any advice on how to fix this as easy as possible? A workshop quoted around 3000 USD. I live in Europe. The black/brown stuff is just anti-rust treatment and not rust. 2025.01.24 11:32 Massive-Exchange BMW 7 series G11 vs Mercedes S class W222 vs Lexus LS XF40 vs Jaguar XJ X351
What would be the best car in terms or overall driving, feeling, space, reliability, features, etc. Today is 2025, and I'm looking for something that is 8 to 10 years old (so 2015 to 2017 range), as these cars have dropped enough in price to be affordable, while not being too old either.
Currently I have couple of cars, but my daily is a 2008 BMW 740i E65, which is an awesome car, I've got it about 3.5 years ago with 130k km (has about 160k km now), worked on it for 6 months (changed the valve stem seals, all engine seals, water transfer pipe, water pump, etc, basically addressed all the normal issues a N62 engine has), and since then it has been nothing but reliable for me. Sure, it has the odd thing here and there, like any other 15+ year old car would have (like a dead window regulator, old trunk springs, bonnet struts, etc), but all in all I trust this car to take me anywhere, for any length of road. Plus I have a second 2006 BMW 750i E65 that I'm still putting back together whenever I can (takes quite some time to remove all the interior to redo the headliner...after you already did it once to swap some parts on the 740i, haha). I'm no stranger to working on my cars (reality is I've never taken any of my cars to a service for the past 10 years, beside tire swaps), so I'm not afraid to dive in, regardless how hard it may be. This being said, I find it hard to remove an engine or transmission from the car, or even get under the middle of the car for gearbox service, as I don't have the space/facilities at home to do this.
I've came to the E65 from a 2004 Jaguar XJ X350 (which I owned for about 3 years before I got the BMW), and to me the Jag was always the ultimate luxury car. Until I've tried the E65 740i for a couple of minutes, and basically that was it. Sold the Jag right there, and never looked back. On paper they are the same class, but in reality the Bimmer is 2 classes above the Jag in terms of driving experience, reliability, interior space, facilities (I mean you can't really compare manual window shades with broken handles that you can't find to get spares for, with automatic window shades). Sometimes I do miss the Jag though.
So here I am today, looking to pass a perfectly maintained E65 with comfort seats and all amenities and get something newer. Reading the internet, seems that many who changed the E65 for an F01 were not that impressed. I've had a 535i GT F07 that did not impressed me either, the trunk was horrendously small for such a big car.
But I guess jumping into a G11 is a different story, I've found a 2015 740i G11 with 65k km that I fell in love with (dark grey over white interior, with massage seats). But is this the right choice? Is the BMW G11 better than the Mercedes W222? Reality is I always wanted an S class, but the 2018 S350d W222 I saw couple of weeks back was truly disappointing (no rear window shades, a lot of scratches on the interior parts, plus twice the price to the 740i G11, and double the kms).
The XJ X351 interior reminds me quite a lot of the X350 (from the pictures, especially the seats) and I'm afraid I won't really enjoy it as much, especially from the driving perspective.
And the Lexus...oh well, I'm a big Toyota fan, probably the biggest ever (rebuilt 3 from scratch over the past 20 years). Until I wanted to replace the Jag X350 with a 2009 LS460, and was truly disappointed: the leather seemed lower quality than the Jag/BMW, the infotainment and amenities a bit more rudimentary and from the yesteryear, and the fact that the glove box plastic/leather was just warped and deformed badly after 12 years really put me off big time. Again, I cannot stand a bad car interior. I couldn't care less how it looks outside, if the inside is all scratched and damaged, and I can't even get parts for, or they are too expensive. Plus the LS460 is having the same issues with valve stem seals like the N62, so I'm a bit unsure why is so much fuss only for BMWs that they start burn oil after 10+ years, as the Lexuses I've seen had the same issue.
All these cars are in the same price range now. I'm not too fussed on the engine, the maximum speed limit in my country is 100km/h, so basically anything would do, and reality is a smaller engine is going to be more economical anyway. But we do pay more tax for diesel, plug-in or electrics, so it's not really a better deal compared to a normal petrol car. What I am fussed on though is that I need a car with good seats (similar or better to the Comfort Seats in the E65, that has heating/cooling as a minimum, and eventually massage as a bonus), as I have some back problems, and I commute at least 2 hours per day, everyday, for a minimum of 50kms. Plus I want the rear integrated window shades for the kids.
Sorry for the long spiel, but I wanted to give as much details as necessary.
TLDR: between these 4 models (would Maserati Ghibli be the same class?), if we ignore engines (although most W222 in my area are S400 Plug-in hybrids, and I'm unsure I wanna bet on their reliability), which is the best car to own as a daily, if you do about 10-15k km/year in it?

Hi, I’m 22F and it’s been about 5 months that I have been seeing this guy. Just to clarify, we are not “in a relationship”, we’ve talked about how we don’t know what the future holds so it is better to just “see” each other but not have that label around it. If you ask my true opinion on this, it is already a red flag but I guess I can honor his wishes as I cannot force him into anything.
We’re technically in alignment about our dating expectations for e.g. how we would not be romantically seeking other people behind our backs (the bare minimum).
Now the thing that bothers me is that his ex and him talk to each once in 2 months (now that’s what he told me) and asked if I am okay with that. I asked him in what capacity? He said because she is in a different country, he still has her stuff which I will have to probably give back to her when I visit. It’s a bit weird because you can parcel it? But anyways I say it’s okay and understandable as those things might be of value to her.
Fast forward, a couple of days before his birthday, I randomly see his ex’s name pop up in Recents which means he talked to his ex the other night. I randomly caught this as I was using his iPad to scroll through Netflix. It was the same night me and him did not hang out. Usually we hang out every night. I asked him how his night was, the next morning and he did not mention anything about talking to her.
Now, a couple of days later, it’s his birthday and I am in his room. This girl calls him on his phone (video call) and I tell him “Your ex is calling you”. And he goes “oh okay” and then proceeds to pick up the call and talk to her. This is the first time I’ve seen them talk and honestly I thought that it will be a quick call but then they start catching up about life. He proceeds to tell her how his friends are. He’s saying things like “She owes him a gift”. It was too much for me, not out of jealousy but the disrespect.
I didn’t say anything and left the room as they were talking. He doesn’t even acknowledge me leaving or proceeds to call or text me once he is done speaking to her. He calls me a few hour later to ask if I want to go to the gym together. I obviously avoid his call and texts. I saw him later that night and told him how I felt but he said “I just thought it’s better that I would talk to her in front of you as opposed to behind your back”. He also said things like “She knows you and we know we are dating different people”. The man doesn’t even apologize.
Anyways, I let it slide and honestly, i don’t know what is up but I feel like this pathetic situationship is coming to an end. He does not put any effort in me and makes sly remarks like how I am gaining weight. I have been checking my weight and I have maybe gained a kg at-most.
Honestly, I am so exhausted and don’t know what to do.
