2025.01.27 04:10 Ok-Touch8735 Why is there always that one manager/person that… (personal rant/genuine question)
So this is going to be a combined rant about two scenarios but both eluding to my question because I just don’t understand it. I’m a server at Cheddar’s and I’ve only been here for a few weeks. All the managers are pretty chill except maybe one, and I think she takes the job a little too seriously.
I’m 25 and this is my second server job which I previously worked at Waffle House, and I had one dude who EVERYONE hates because despite not being a manager, he loved to order everyone around like so. To put it best, he would complain whenever someone didn’t do small side work like fills for their tables or relatively anything minor and talk shit. He was super bi-polar and would be on your ass whenever making the smallest mistakes particularly whenever calling in the orders and not getting the callouts flawlessly, then another minute he would turn around and say it’s okay because everyone makes mistakes. His excuse being “I just hate it whenever people don’t wanna learn.” Which is fair, but most of the employees aren’t treating their work like they’re “quitting” or however you would say.
Now moving on to this other manager I currently have who’s very similar and i have very little conflict with her but she’s very meticulous just like the last guy. For example, we are allowed free drinks but she’s the only manager who doesn’t like us and will openly say you can’t get a drink because you’re using to-go supplies. Another example is one time I had my phone out walking back to the kitchen because I had just taken a picture of a coupon code and I was ready to enter it in the system. The screen is up, you can see it’s there, but this person has to tell me I’m not allowed to have my phone on the floor… now I value my work and I take things seriously just as much as the next girl because I don’t wanna hear things like this and I like being appreciated for things I do. One more example I have is this person saying I have to show up with black socks despite my ankles barely being visible.
This is an entry level job and I don’t see the things I’m getting scolded for to be actually problematic. I do my side work and other things just as everyone else should.
Bottom line, just collectively as a whole why are some people like this? I seriously don’t understand, it’s like people don’t know how to have a life outside of work. Don’t people actually have things they’re passionate about outside of their job? I do and they’re more valuable to me. I’ll do my honest work for the bag while helping out my co-workers if I can along the way, but once that clock turns towards the end of my shift I’m outta there. Please share your experiences and/or explanations on why people who have mindsets like this is plausible. Thank you.

Não sei como começar isso, mas faz uns meses que eu tranquei meu semestre pra pensar. E eu moro com meus pais, não trabalho, só estudo. Eu seria aquele tipo de sujeita que é uma sangue suga dos meus pais, e não nego que já me senti culpada por isso.
Mas aí q tá, meus pais já falaram para mim que eu só estou vivendo a vida que eles trabalharam para me dar, uma vida fácil.
Imagina só, ser de classe média baixa, e ter pais que QUEREM que eu possa viver tranquilamente com eles. Eu volto e meia digo que vou arrumar um emprego para não pesar para eles, mas eles só sorriem e dizem para eu não me preocupar e ir estudar que já estou fazendo minha parte. Chega num ponto que quando eu falo de mudar de curso eles questionam se eu só estou falando isso por ansiedade em ajudar eles. Eles só querem que eu estude por gostar do que eu estudo, não para arranjar emprego.
Chega a ser doloroso. Eu penso “porr*… eles me amam e é isso, eu não mereço eles.” Claro eu tento compensar fazendo a faxina da casa, não pedindo nada, cozinhando e fazendo tudo q eles possam “não fazer”. Mas ainda sim eu vejo tudo como “nada do que você faz irá compensar” Viver essa vida tranquila e confortável me deixa angustiada, incapaz de ser capaz ou de me tornar algo mais.
