out of curiosity, is there a general amount of time that cats tend to be affected by trauma? i have two cats who i rescued that were living in a car with 6 cats total, neglected, hungry, etc. they will turn 3 and 4 this year and have been living with me for 7 months now where we have bonded really strongly.
i try my best to avoid potentially triggering any trauma in them— their meal times are very rigid now and i do my best to do something enriching for them every day. however, both my cats are very sensitive from what i can tell about them, and this sensitivity manifests very differently. one of them is a velcro cat who needs loves all the time, and the other wants to receive love but has very firm boundaries and only wants love on her terms. both of these personalities are wonderful to me and i have learned how to love them in the way they wish to be loved.
i think i might have messed up over the weekend. i went to visit my parents two hours away for 48 hours and left my kitties with my roommate who they both know and love, and she took care of them just fine, but i think my leaving for that long might have upset them because now my velcro cat is crying all day over EVERYTHING. if she wants her food (even if the next meal is still 3 hours away) or if she wants to sit in my lap or literally anything, she starts being very vocal. i don’t mind her being chatty, but these cries just sound pretty anxious to me and i want to nip it in the bud asap so she doesn’t have to feel that way.
anyway, in essence what im wondering is— how long are cats affected by traumatic situations? is this just them still being traumatized, or is it just regular separation anxiety? can i expect that eventually they will be less triggered by things like this?

2025.01.29 05:57 CurveOk8138 Daycare or stay at home with 2 years old, which is better for them?
My daughter is nearly two and we are trying daycare. The place is lovely, the teachers are really nice. Since starting 3 weeks ago we have been often sick, I get that, but I am wondering if it is better to keep her home til she is 2.5 years old in September.
She is having a lot of separation anxiety, and in the past 10 days, what seems to be as nightmares or night terrors. During the day she is even more clingy and I am starting to think she is simply not ready and needs more time with me.
Fortunately I am self employed and can manage from home with some occasional help.
She is in general super social and we go to music classes once a week for the past year which she really enjoys with other kids.
I feel pressured by many that she should go to daycare but my gut feeling is "not yet" and I can't tell if that is my instinct or I am too attached.
Any tips? What has other people's experiences been?

Honestly I just need some encouragement right now lol. I (23m) seem to just hold on to things for a long time, and sometimes it makes my heart sick for no reason at all. I'm minding my own business then boom - I think about one girl or another, whether I let her go or vice versa. I don't know what my deal is, I'm just bummed, this shouldn't be a big deal.
The last thing thats been heavy on me was a date from like 6-7 months ago in august (math??). It was a girl I liked for years, but we fell out of contact. 2 years after the last time we spoke, she reached out and wanted to go out. Please understand, this wasn't just a girl I thought was attractive - I genuinely also just admired and respected her. So of course, since it was out of the clear blue sky, I just thought it was very promising.
I drove nearly 3 hours to see her (she lives far away) and we spent the entire day together, it was the best date I'd been on in years. I was in her town so she showed me around, and kind of did a lot of the leading in that sense (I was utterly unfamiliar with this place). I thought it ended on a high note too, I was so excited going into it, had a great time catching up with her, getting to know her better, it just seemed good to me.
then that was it. We said goodbye, I took a long ass road trip back home and reached out again - nothing. Ghosted me. I was shocked because she just seemed like more of an adult than that?? She's 3-4 years older than me too, sort of introverted, and I always regarded her as being pretty mature. I just felt so disrespected. If she'd done that after like a 1-2 hour date that was just okay I'd still be bummed, but it would make more sense. She was so nice to me??
The people that I ignore are people that I don't like and don't want to talk to. I could not believe she gave me her entire day, sat and talked with me literally for hours, and dropped me. As a bonus, there were multiple points where I anticipated her ending the date, but she prolonged it. She actually was arguably the main reason we spent so much time together.
For example, after a solid 3-4 hours, she said "hey I think our parking meters are going to expire! We should switch our cars around so we can keep talking."
I just don't get it. I've never ghosted a girl, I always felt obligated to explain if I didn't want to continue going out purely out of respect. It's not fun! But it just seems respectful to me.
I did eventually hear through a mutual friend what her reason was.
It was this wishy washy thing about the distance and how it wouldn't work, apparently none of her reasons had to do with me. I just straight up don't believe that, what a stupid reason to ghost someone.
Aaaaannnyway, that was a long time ago. As I said, I had liked this girl for a few years before we lost contact. It was just one date but it still bums me out, I wish it didn't matter to me so much.
Whether it was the age gap (she is certainly an old soul), something I said/did, not sure. Maybe she had a sense that I liked her too much and therefore put a lot of expectation on her. Screw that tbh, I refuse to believe it. Open to suggestions.
