Howdy ya’ll!
I’ve been deeply embedded in the music scene as a performer and appreciator but today… I was given a very unfamiliar task that our local music community has been desperately looking for.
I bartend at a very new bar with a basic PA system/soundboard that is used to handling rap/hip hop/ open mics, a promoter handles the soundboard and security, and draws a crowd that is the polar opposite of DIY. I was asked to set up a local band show to compete with that for a different crowd draw. Thankfully due to networking, I have no issue putting together a bill, but I don’t know what I need to do outside of putting names on a flier.
Any advice would be extremely helpful. Again, a HUGE newb here when it comes to putting a show on, but I would love to be able to give a local spot to talent that was thriving before our last venue closed in 2014 (and the talent has since grown, but has to travel for venues).

A bit of a heady question maybe, but just as quick background, I am a recording engineer, mainly classical, so a lot of acoustic music in concert hall settings. In this line of work, you must have a basic understanding of sound energy and how it propagates from different sources and interacts with the surrounding environment.
I have not studied physics extensively, nor pursued any formal education in it, so please excuse any misunderstandings of certain concepts or lack of knowledge with the nomenclature.
As a recording engineer (sound technician might be a better title for this line of work), we deal in the conversion of one form of energy to another. For example, sound pressure waves to an electrical signal. This is what begged the question stated in the title. Is energy viewed as a fluid concept that simple travels through different mediums in different ways? Is energy unique to everything that acts as a medium? Or is it a bit more abstract than this?
I hope I’m asking this question in a clear enough way, or even asking the correct question at all. Input from a physicist would be very much appreciated though.

Hey everyone,
I never thought I’d be writing this, but here I am. I’m 24, turning 25 soon (2 months), and I’ve decided to leave tech and go back to school for a stable career in healthcare. The plan is to move back in with my parents while I do a 2-3 year program, and I’ll be around 28 when I finally move out and start working.
A little background: I started my career in software engineering, and while I made decent money, the industry is completely unstable right now—layoffs everywhere, jobs impossible to get, and insane competition with AI, offshoring, and thousands of people applying for the same roles. After almost a year of job hunting and seeing how bad things have gotten, I realized I don’t want to keep fighting for my life every time the market shifts. I have over 3 years of experience, and after that layoff could not find any job. I've made it to the offer stage 3 times, and the final round twice, and haven't gotten lucky to obtain a job (ended up with no offers, and they chose the "other guy"). The competition is absolutely insane, and it's only getting worse.
So, I made the call: I’m switching to healthcare, moving into my parents’ basement (which they’re fixing up to be my own space), and grinding through school for the next few years. It’s the logical move, but emotionally, it still sucks.
I can’t shake the feeling that I’m "falling behind." I’ll be 28 by the time I’m financially independent again, and that just feels... late. Dating is going to be basically impossible while I’m living at home, and most of my friends are either settled or at least out on their own. It’s just hitting me that I won’t really have much of a social life for the next few years.
I know this is the right move long-term—in a few years, I’ll have a solid, in-demand career, good pay, and stability that tech could never give me. But right now, it just feels like I’m hitting "pause" on my life while everyone else keeps moving forward.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you deal with the feeling of "starting over" in your mid-20s? Any advice or insights from people who have switched careers later in life? Would love to hear your thoughts.

So I think in one of the books or novellas it’s established that Slough House is for people that the security services want out but can’t fire for some reason.
This makes sense for River who was protected by OB, Shirley who would have caused a scandal, and Marcus whose gambling problem was considered a mental health issue.
But why are the others in Slough instead of just getting sacked outright. People like Min, Louisa, Roddy, and Loy who are in SH for things that would have got them fired without some kind of political or bureaucratic fall-out?

I think the reservation system in its current form is outdated n needs serious reform. While it was necessary for historical reasons, it now creates new inequalities, especially for poor general category students who get no support despite struggling financially.
Reservations should be gradually phased out and replaced with a system based on economic status rather than caste. If someone is truly disadvantaged regardless of background they should get help but blanket caste-based reservations are unfair. Instead of just lowering cut-offs the focus should be on improving school education and providing financial aid so that underprivileged students can compete on equal footing rather than just getting easier entry into colleges and jobs.
Merit should be the deciding factor in a country that wants to progress.

(my personal opinion) i interpret the song to be about feeling like you aren’t contributing as much as you want to the world, and fearing that you might not be remembered in any way after death, positive or negative.

I think this lyric represents the sort of “positive” contribution to society, that when you die people will make tributes to you and/or do things in your honor. The example here being, the lyrics of popular rock songs changing to include the deceased guys name, as a tribute to him, because he is/was remembered positively.
“I can't commit to a crime to commit I need to get one done for the biography because When I split the scene Leave the party early What am I leaving behind me?”
I think this lyric represents the contemplation one would have born of the fear of being forgotten (the contemplation being, committing a crime). He states that he needs to ‘get one done for the biography’, because typically, when someone feels they’re going to be forgotten after death, when someone feels they’ve contributed nothing to the world, its easier to turn to thoughts of wanting to commit crimes for attention seeking reasons and/or in hopes of becoming ‘infamous’, because infamous people aren’t forgotten.
“Something is ringing Death is playing his Xylophone ribs for me”
these lyrics, to me, honestly feel like a taunt coming from a metaphorical and personified, “Death”, which means that death is imminent, and upcoming, sort of as a way to say “hurry up and make yourself known for something” (this obviously just being the inner insecurity/fear talking).
“I didn't want you to hear That shake in my voice My pain is my own And when the cops shook me down I cried walking home I cried walking home”
I feel like to me, this part is describing the aftermath of how he ultimately chose the easy way of being remembered, which is to be remembered via committing a crime of some sort, and now has to face the consequences of his actions, like having to be interrogated, share information, and be dealt with by the law.
“Don't worry I'm worrying for two So don't worry baby”

Can someone check if the blue light on your buffer is always on regardless of the position of the lever on the buffer? Does any other light come on or do you get any feedback when you move the lever from one extreme to the other?
I’m having the issue where the CFS will not feed in filament. I put it in the tube and the white light on the front lights up, but it won’t feed any further. I already checked the 4 way splitter and none of the lights are on. When I feed in the filament manually, the lights light up when they are supposed to. I’m running out of ideas what else to test so I want to make sure the light on the buffer is always solid blue for everyone.

I’ve been riding my brother’s Burton Custom 156 for a few years, but it’s always felt a little too big for me. Now that I’ve got a full-time job, I’m thinking it’s finally time to grab my own board.
I ride on the East Coast, so I’m mostly focusing on carving and big jumps, but I do hit the park now and then. I’m 5’5”, 125 lbs, and wear size 7.5 boots. I’m looking for something that’s a bit more nimble than the 156 and gives me good edge hold—East Coast snow can get pretty icy, so that’s important.
I’ve narrowed it down to these four boards and I’m trying to figure out which one would be the best for what I’m after:
