2025.01.30 14:33 r_u_seriousclark I followed my curiosity and ordered a children’s book about a little girl who wants to learn how to figure skate.
This is part of a longer experience but basically I rediscovered a book from my childhood and got so excited and curious about rediscovering something that I decided to order a second book by this author. These books were released in the 80s so I had to find them used, which is sort of besides the point. The second book I ordered is about a little girl who wants to learn how to figure skate and is gifted a pair of skates and a necklace with a pair of skates. I’m still waiting for the book to be delivered but yesterday evening I got so impatient that I decided to find a reading of the book on YouTube, which I did; and I listened and watched it.
This morning when I opened Reddit, one of the first things I saw was the breaking news about a passenger jet (carrying none other than a group of figure skaters) that crashed into a helicopter in DC airspace.
I feel very calm about the ordeal but it also makes me think. Is that just a crazy coincidence, synchronicity, or (possibly) something else? All insights welcome.

 | Very cool to find this community and excited to hear your takes on this. There are really good reason that horror is the go to genre for found footage. It revels in the fundamental question of “how did this footage get here?” and is able to entertain the tension between the movie maker and its mystery. One of my first experiences with found footage was the Marble Hornets videos. However, I’ve also seen a couple of movies that broach going outside the strict horror thriller genre. Europa Report (2013) is a good example. It’s Sci-fi thriller and I could see it being lumped in to horror too, but I think it’s a good example of how creative the scenario of “how did this footage get here” is answered. You Were Never Really Here (2017) while not FF does have a very compelling sequence when Joaquin Phoenix is shown through security cameras mutely rampaging with a hammer. The distance that the security camera give us to an already known brutality lenses it into a disquieting and discomforting experience in a way that showing him going ham with his mallet just doesn’t do in the same way. Which brings me to the picture included in this post. Searching (2018) is widely composed of FF but has an interesting answer to the “how did this footage get here” as John Cho actively chases the digital forensics to find his daughter. While a screenlife movie is slightly different than FF, I see a lot of similarities and was wondering more broadly what this community thinks of it? I do think that horror is just too good of a fit for found footage and it really will probably stay the most common genre to use this story telling technique. But we are heading in a direction where there is going to be more video made of people just in general. Security cameras are getting cheaper by the day and now it’s a standard feature of most cars to have dashcams in them. What does this community think? Is there legs for found footage outside horror? I am so, so tired of this game not respecting my time. I have on average maybe 3-4 matches I can play a day and i’m genuinely okay losing all of those games if I can learn from it. You know what I can’t learn from? The constant afk’s and babies that didn’t like what another player said, then throw the rest of the match and ruin it for the rest of us. Not all of us are kids that have all day to play. I don’t mind losing but I tell you nothing feels worse than playing two games back to back that could’ve been winnable but then someone afks mid game. You are then held hostage because playing it out could help u lose less rr so you don’t wanna surrender. I’m a solo queue player it’s already rough enough.
Not only does it waste your time but it feels like you are getting punished for it as well. Time-outs don’t fix it and what do I care if they get timed out anyway? It doesn’t help me or anyone else on the team that had to deal with it. I know people say a compensation system could be abused but there has got to be some kind of way to work around that?

M a dropper. Didnt wanna pursue science in the first place but my know it all parents said it was the best decision and i will thank them later.( idts m planning to leave them as soon as i get a job) They forced me into NARAYANA from 5 std , growing up there i nvr really got to enjoy school life cuz the kids over there were all competitive and judged others on the basis of the weekly test marks. Now i have given my jan attempt, it was as gr8 as i expected it to be. So i decided not to give the 2nd attempt. I studied hard like only sleeping for 5 hrs daily. Initially they were fine w it but now they again forcing me to give the 2nd attempt and if i resist they say WE PAID 3 LACS FOR UR PRVT COACHING IN THE DROP YEAR.
What shud i do abt it. I nvr wanted to take drop in the first place, they forced me found a teacher and put me in his coaching centre. Now they want me to do some marketing job (like literally the ones u see on the streets w pamphlet telling u abt their company) and my family is well settled. But they cant see me sitting idle the whole day. I m giving other exams but all are in april.
I m now mentally and physically deprived. I feel no joy or happiness. pl help b4 i end up in the morning news 🙏

2025.01.30 14:33 mirana-luxe How risky is it to travel out of Australia? - With 3 Months left on Student visa (500), and 1 Month left to finish studies.
I've been seeing a lot of student visa cancellations recently and I'm starting to feel anxious.
First Week of July - This is when I plan to travel out of Australia to attend something really important overseas. I'm planning to stay there only for a week, then come back to finish my studies.
First Week of August - This is the official end date of my studies, also the date shown on my Certificate of Enrolment (CoE)
First Week of October - This is the official expiry date of my visa, as shown on my visa grant / vevo check document.
Haven't really had problems with my previous travels out of Australia while on Student Visa (most recent was the Christmas holidays in 2024), but somehow I got a gut feeling this one trip in July might be risky :(
Any thoughts?

Hi everyone, I need some help with my Tamagotchi V2 (Gen 2). My Tamagotchi is currently in the child stage, and it's been 5 days since I got it. It still looks like a Kinakomotchi but now has little feet.
However, the issue is that it weighs 29 lbs, which seems quite heavy for the child stage. I know weight plays a role in the evolution process, but I’m unsure if the Tamagotchi will evolve to the adult stage at this weight or if I need to do something to help it evolve properly.
Since it’s a V2, I only have the number guessing game to help with anything, but it doesn’t seem to help with weight loss. Can anyone give me advice on how to manage the weight and help the evolution process?

2025.01.30 14:33 Brogbot Power Steering in 4.7 is a Bad Design
Imagine designing that hydraulic fan instead of just using an engine clutch fan or greased electric clutch fan like every other car...
The system is prone to leaking in high pressure situations due to being half hard half soft tubing. The fan is also mediocre at best at cooling the actual engine if you aren't going a decent speed.
Someone please find me a real electric clutch fan that works and ill have the 4.0's pump thrown in.
