2025.01.30 21:39 DeezNutsPickleRick Alex O'Connor Debates 25 Christians

Ran into this Youtube video of Alex O'Connor. Pretty interesting, but fairly hard to watch at certain points due to the constant shifting of goalposts and bad faith arguments from the Christians. Alex was as eloquent and genius as ever, but the whole format felt kind of strange. Still a good watch, nonetheless, because we get a good look at the mind of the average Christian.
What I thought was interesting was that we see half a dozen or so different types of Christianity in their speakers, and it was obvious that their interpretation and literalism of the Bible shifted from speaker to speaker, making the overarching arguments disjointed and tough to follow, from speaker to speaker. It feels like this format actually tees Alex up to nail all of his points. If you have an hour to kill its worth a watch.

2025.01.30 21:39 MrNewReno Rockauto part broke within 30seconds of driving-what to expect with warranty claim

So I ordered and received 2x control arms and had intended to replace myself, buuuttt due to lack of time on my part a local (national brand) shop agreed to install them today, and within 30 seconds of leaving (still in the same parking lot) the weld holding the control arm bushing to the rest of the metal broke. They put the old one back in so I could leave, but I did pay to have this part put in only to have it fail. I’m going to send a warranty claim to Rockauto, what can I expect as far as getting my money back, or money back for the shop bill to put in a part that failed? Or can I go to Dorman? The welds that broke were glorified tack welds.
What to do here?

2025.01.30 21:39 tearlipsbenz When Your Sparring Partner Feels the Need to ‘Test Your Blades Sharpness

You know that moment when your sparring partner really wants to see if your sword can cut them? No, not in a controlled "strike" way - more like a casual “Hey, let me see if your longsword can slice me in half!” Somehow, the rules of physics and personal safety just vanish, and it's definitely not a good time for an impromptu anatomy lesson.

2025.01.30 21:39 Medical_Rent_6423 22m stuck in a shitty job I want to leave so bad but feel so stuck

So there isn't much to say here, I choose a shitty degree path (animation and 3d design( and right now I work as a marketing coordinator for a small insurance firm, but the job is driving me mad while I'm trying to finish my degree. I feel constantly burnt out after every work day and it's eating me alive. I hardly do any marketing work and since we're understaffed im doing other mundane office tasks and it's difficult to hone skills when im constantly handling outbound calls. I'm just unsure what path to take in life given I have likely no career outpath due to the rise of ai art which was a shitty undersight in my opinion. I just feel so stuck 😭

2025.01.30 21:39 LoanNo2930 What Was the First Game You Ever Beat on PSX?story

What Was the First Game You Ever Beat on PSX?story I can forget a lot of things—important dates, old friends' names, my phone number, or even my email password. But there’s one thing I’ll never forget: the first game I managed to beat on each of my consoles.
Most of the time, these were well-known games that my friends had already completed, and I just had to wait until I finally got my hands on the console. But things were different with the PlayStation.
I've already mentioned before that when I bought my PSX, it came with a massive collection of games—over a hundred! For the first few weeks, I struggled to focus on a single game. Too much choice isn't always a good thing—at least until you learn to play with discipline. Since I had five memory cards, I started playing everything at once. But only one game managed to hold my attention all the way to the credits: Apocalypse.
It’s strange to think that this game has largely faded into obscurity. At the time, it was revolutionary in many ways. Activision wasn’t the giant it is today—Call of Duty was still far off—but the company already had ambitions of making big, cinematic games. Their idea was to create one of the first games in which the player's AI-controlled partner would be a fully digitized, 3D-rendered Bruce Willis. Who wouldn’t want Bruce Willis as their in-game buddy? I certainly did.
The actor even voiced his own character, and while there wasn’t much dialogue, let’s be honest—ever since Die Hard, Bruce Willis had been the king of sharp, witty one-liners. I can’t think of a better fit for this kind of role.
But something went wrong, and Apocalypse ended up in development hell. The AI companion idea was scrapped, and instead, Bruce Willis became the sole playable character. Neversoft was brought in to finish the project, and in an ironic twist, Apocalypse saved the studio from bankruptcy. More than that, it led directly to the development of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, which ran on the same engine.
What Made Apocalypse Special?
The game was a mix of a run-and-gun shooter and a platformer, featuring an unusual control scheme: each of the PlayStation controller’s face buttons (△, ◯, ✕, ☐) controlled shooting in a different direction. Nowadays, this twin-stick shooter style is common, but back then, the original PlayStation controllers didn't even have analog sticks.
Funny enough, my PSX came with a brand-new DualShock controller, so I never had to deal with the old setup. But since Apocalypse was released before DualShock, it didn’t support the second stick at all. Surprisingly, I never found the controls frustrating, though. And the vibration? That was pure magic.
Back in the day, gaming lounges always had the cheapest controllers with no vibration, so when I finally played at home with proper force feedback, it blew my mind. While Apocalypse didn’t make extensive use of vibration, every hit and explosion triggered it just enough. And given how much was exploding in that game, my controller was constantly shaking.
To me, Apocalypse felt like the next-gen Contra—but with my favorite action star, destructible environments, and non-stop chaos. The screen was filled with explosions, dust, and debris, all accompanied by classic Willis one-liners like:
"Hey, I’m not dead yet!"
"I don't get paid enough for this crap!"
"Strap one on, it’s time to jam!"
And if that wasn’t enough, the soundtrack was absolute fire. Imagine gunning down waves of enemies while music videos played on giant screens in the background, featuring bands like System of a Down and Poison. You can’t imagine how incredible that felt at the time.
Was It Hard?
Absolutely. But I kept coming back. The thrill of playing on my brand-new PlayStation, combined with the music and action, kept me pushing forward until I finally beat the game.
The cutscenes between levels were also a highlight, carried entirely by Bruce Willis’ charisma. The story itself? Well, let’s just say it wasn’t winning any awards.
You played as a scientist imprisoned for reasons unknown, who learns that his former mentor is trying to bring about the apocalypse. Naturally, our hero sets out to stop him. And, of course, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (plot twist!) turn out to be people close to him. Not exactly groundbreaking storytelling, but as John Carmack once said, "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie—it’s expected to be there, but it’s not that important."
So, is Apocalypse worth playing today?
Unfortunately, early 3D games haven’t aged well. Unlike 2D games, which often remain timeless, many 3D titles from that era feel pretty rough by modern standards. The most relevant part of the game today might be the fact that the President of the United States is the final Horseman of the Apocalypse.
But if you can look past my bad jokes and the outdated visuals, there’s still fun to be had. The gameplay is pure chaos, the soundtrack is fantastic, and, of course, there’s Bruce Willis—who I sincerely wish all the best in health and many more years ahead.
And now, over to you:
What was the first PSX game you ever completed? And if you’ve played Apocalypse, what do you think of it?

2025.01.30 21:39 CrystalMoonBeam Best controller?

I bought my ps5 slim digital on November 29 2024 at Target. The left stick started drifting yesterday! I think it’s ridiculous that it has stick drift only 2 months in! It’s the dual sense. Are any of the other PlayStation controllers resistant to stick drift that are compatible with my ps5? I submitted a repair ticket with PlayStation that will probably take weeks I’ll be without a controller. I have 2 Xbox controllers, can I get them to work? I never had problems with Xbox 😒
