2025.01.30 23:30 xdomisx Deciding between 9800X3D and 9950X
Hi. I'm building a new PC, and having difficulties deciding on some things. I play latest releases if they interest me, or some CS sometimes. I also want to do work on the same machine. I work with databases, tons of massive sheets and tabs open at once, some UI development and very basic casual programming. I also want to start developing some things with AI, run it locally and develop some agents to test UI for me and maybe some other things that I may come up with.
To the main question, I am deciding between 9800X3D and 9950X. I don't know what sort of performance I would be leaving on the table. Does AI have a need for a better productivity performance of 9950X at all? or is it just dependant on GPU? I will be running an RTX 5090. If that's not the case and if for such tasks the 9800X3D is plenty enough, should I just get 9800X3D and forget about leaving some of the GPU performance on games?
Also besides that, for such CPU and GPU combination, 1200 PSU should be enough? And for such productivity tasks, is there any reason going beyond 64GB of ram? Would appreciate specific suggestions for these parts too.

Ok so I just moved into a new house and am removing wall paper. I am using water and vinegar to wet the paper to peel it. I put the mixture in a spray bottle and removed the nozzle before placing it in the microwave. Microwave starts to spark. I remove it and pour the liquid in a plastic measuring cup which heats up just fine. What is the difference between the spray bottle plastic and measuring cup plastic??? Why did one plastic cause the microwave to spark and the other did not?

Have a 14-month-old Chihuahua-terrier mix, and it's been a journey. She's always been sweet and social, but also stubborn, impulsive, and a little destructiveโsheโs a shredder. Nothing scares her which is double edged sword. She loves fireworks, never met a stranger and runs toward any new sound, so occasionally have to save her from her curiosity.
She ran out the door twice last week, but came right back when I called her, which is a huge improvement! Once was when I dropped a can that propped open door while bringing in groceries, and the other time was when a friend visiting didn't realize how fast she is. She listened and obeyed when her recall word said. Before, I would have had to chase her around a tree she loves in front yard, or she would run to car to go for ride, but now she listens immediately and comes right back. Skids and turns around and races inside.
The biggest hurdle left, ties into the running out door, is "stay"โshe can only manage a few seconds even after puppy and intermediate training class, and even the tastiest treats like steak, boiled chicken, or bacon can't overcome her desire to be in the middle of everything. Any advice on improving that would be great! The greatest reward for her is being right there and not sitting off to the side, so I'm kinda stumped as to how to reward not doing what she loves more than food. Otherwise, she's getting much better at commands like "sit," "side," "come," "drop it," and "leave it"โall of which were maybe 60-70% successful just a couple of weeks ago. It felt like she would just be too willful to ever truly get it, but then bam, it worked just as we had been training towards. There is hope, puppy owners!

2025.01.30 23:30 tomorrowistomato Mild phantom pains after fatty meals at 6 weeks post op, do I need to do anything about it?
Had surgery 6 weeks ago for small stones and recovery is going well, my diet is mostly back to normal and my symptoms have improved for the most part. Over the past few weeks though I have noticed that I'm having some pain in the area where my gallbladder used to be when I eat something with a lot of fat. It's sharp, throbbing, and very localized to that spot much like the pain I had pre-op, but it's not at all intense. Taking apple cider vinegar gummies with meals seems to help. I've also noticed it happens more if I've already eaten something fatty that past day or so and gets better if I ease off the fat for a bit.
I guess my question is, do I need to do something about this? At only a month and a half out I know I'm still very much in the healing stage. I think my bigger concern are the post op complications like retained stones, sphincter of oddi dysfunction, pancreatitis, etc. From my understanding those tend to present with pretty severe pain, but then, my gb pain was never severe before so I don't have much to compare to. Also just had blood work done today and my bilirubin, ALT, and AST are all totally normal (ALT was elevated pre-op) so I think that's a very good sign.
Anyway if this is just a normal part of the healing process I'm fine just continuing as I am now, I just don't want to ignore a potential complication and have it turn into something worse.
