Hello reddit, I (19m) have been working at a factory for 2 years now, I started out as a labourer in the freezers and moved on to being a tracker (someone who fills product orders and loads them).
After 12 months I quit that job thinking it would be the end of it. I moved country to be with family and found out I had nothing in common with said family. So I moved back to my home country. Obviously I needed a job to make ends meet so I came back to the same job I had before working a different shift.
This shift had recently had someone leave and it needed someone to fill that position. Since I already had the experience they were looking for they took me back onboard. The person who left was in line to be promoted to team leader before leaving. Well since he left and I already knew everything I needed to about the job they picked me for it. I was team leader for a few months before I found out the supervisor was going on vacation and they needed someone to cover while he was gone, so I put my hand up for that.
After a month or so of extra training the supervisor went on holidays and I ran the show while he was gone. Eventually becoming a supervisor myself.
The issue Iām struggling with now is getting the respect of the other supervisors. They donāt say it to my face but I feel as if they believe I cheated to get where I am. The supervisor position is one that you usually only get after working at this place for a while (usually 10 years+). Iām feeling a lot of pressure form these guys to just give up and go back to what I was doing before.
Now Iām not bad at my job. Sure I make mistakes every now and then but everyone does. And itās true I havenāt had as much experience as the others but Iām a quick learner and generally never make the same mistake twice. Iām fair to the people who work under me, some of whom also donāt respect me because of my age, and I donāt get mad or yell at anyone for mistakes they make. I understand all the rules, regulations and procedures that need to be followed in my department, and I have done a course in leadership.
My question is, how do I get these guys to come around? Should I just keep doing what Iām doing and not let it bother me, waiting for them to come around? Or should I just do what they think I should and quit?
Iām not a very confident person but Iām getting better, Iām just not sure how to go about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
