2025.02.01 22:42 Every-Mountain-4636 Trying to decide whether or not to move out of my controlling parent’s place.
For context I’m a 19 year old guy and my parents make roughly $300,000 a year, I don’t pay rent but contribute by helping cook and yard work when I’m not at work or college. They are VERY controlling when it comes to my personal and financial decisions. They have me on something called Life360 that monitors my location 24/7 and notifies them whenever I leave the property and they can keep track of where I’ve gone the whole day. I’m currently working a $11/hr part time job to pay for college ($2000 a semester since my parents make too much for me to be applicable for financial aid) and I make roughly $1000 a month and every month send my mother $100 for my car’s insurance. My dad implemented the habit of doing monthly budgets for tuition, gas, insurance, and other small necesites. Safe to say i end up with some money left. Recently in October I had built a PC for $1400 and was quite proud of it, however upon finding out about the amount that I spent they demanded to see my bank statements and the login information for the account. They went as far as confiscating my cashapp card, bank debit card, a the credit card i had recently gotten to start building credit (with gas expenses the monthly insurance payments.) luckily they had let me keep the PC, albeit begrudgingly, after wanting me to sell it online/pawn it to make some of the money back. But recently, after considering it for a little over a year and a half I had decided to purchase and mesh drum set (I’ve been playing music ever since I was 10) for $300. I had recently finished paying off my two college semesters and sending my mother the $100 for the car, leaving me with roughly $1,300 AFTER buying the drum set. However my father who was out of town with my mom at the time quickly found out (was ratted out by my siblings) and had messaged me, quote: “You need to return the drum set on Monday. DONT even open it because you will return it.” Even after trying to explain why I bought it when I did he said “Son, do not open it. You will return it. We will talk about it tomorrow when we return, this is not a request it’s an order.” I should say that they have mentioned in the past that they would be willing to messed on my restrictions (not being as invasive, letting me go out more, and an extended curfew) in exchange for rent. They would charge me $800, “maybe more” not including utilities. This brings me to considering moving out maybe sometime later this year. However the thought of the process and just how much of a change It is it’s making me reconsider. I’m not too sure what to think, call me entitled, spoiled, or over dramatic but this is just what I’ve been considering. I just feel like I should get an honest, unfiltered outside opinion you know?

Hi all! So my wife bought her first turntable. It's a Technics SL-D35. We have it temporarily set up on our dining table just to make sure everything is working.
I've done some searching online, but can't seem to find a replacement cover for it. I know I can get a standard fabric dust cover for it, but are there any specific places I can look to get a "oem" covelid for it? Or are we better off just getting a generic one that has similar size dimensions and sliding it over. Was hoping an original style was available as it looks like the hinges are still attached.

Hello fellow camera enthusiasts! I have been struggling to choose between the Osmo Pocket 3, the Sony ZV-E10 and some other cameras for the past month, but I've really hit the wall with these two cameras, when I think I'm for sure getting this one, I see some advantage in the other and it's an infinite cycle. Sorry in advance for the long text.
I will post the questionnaire here before a more detailed description of my situation.
- Budget: 650 Euros
- Country: Portugal
- Condition: New or Used
- Type of Camera: Mirrorless or Pocket Gimbal Camera
- Intended use: Hybrid shooting, but mostly Video
- If photography; what style: Landscape, Portrait, Photogrammetry, Astrophotography
- If video what style: Documentary, Music Video.
- What features do you absolutely need: 4K, log or raw shooting capabilities, isn't too bad in lowlight, some background separation (Doesn't need to be overkill),
- What features would be nice to have: Good photographic capabilities, interchangeable lenses, reasonable stability.
- Portability: Pocketable
- Cameras you're considering: Sony ZV-E10 + cheap new or used lens, because its within my budget and has great quality for the price, probably won't lose value so soon and has interchangeable batteries, but I will have to invest more money in lenses and gimbals later on. Osmo Pocket 3, because its withing my budget, has great video quality, has a gimbal, but can't change lenses and the lowlight capabilities are worse then the ZV-E10's. I've also considered the Fujifilm XM-5, because it seems like the better camera, in comparison with the ZV-E10 but it's a little out of my budget and I don't think they'll start dropping prices in the used market so soon.
- Cameras you already have: Nikon D5100, Canon Powershot sx260hs, GoPro Hero 7 Black (Not mine, but I have access to them)
- Notes: In a way I want a "first camera" that I can try a big variety of shots with and learn with, because I don't know if I'm going to keep using it or will just forget about it in a few months (Hopefully not, but I never know)
First of all, my budget is around 600/650 euros for Camera + Lens, because my work situation isn't stable at the moment, so If I bought the Osmo Pocket 3, it would be the non creator edition which is 519 Euros, which would leave me with some extra money to buy 1 or 2 filters and would still have money left, and If I bought the ZV-E10, I would probably buy a used body for 450 or 500 euros and pair it with a lens of less than 150 euros, probably a used one, or one of those cheaper ones from TTArtisan, as the kit lense doesn't seem to perform so well in lowlight, and with some luck, I might be able squeeze some money for 1 filter.
So, I plan to use whichever camera that gets chosen mainly for video, but I am also interested in doing some photography but since I have access to a Nikon D5100 (Not mine), that's one point where you guys might be able to help me, which is that I am interested in astrophotography, but haven't had the chance to be in a place without much light pollution yet, so I'm not sure how the D5100 performs, I've seen some photos from AstroBin, but they are mostly taken with telescopes it seems. But I guess this astrophotography thing would be a once in a full moon thing. I've also used the D5100 for photogrammetry and textures, the pocket probably wouldn't benefit me on that and I don't know if the benefits of the ZV-E10 are worth it or not. I've recently gotten into analog photography, so I'm not really worried about having the best photography camera I guess, but it's always something nice to have.
I want something compact that I can carry around while on vacation, and I wouldn't mind if the camera I buy now would be some kind of first video camera, for me to learn, because I don't even know if I'm going to use it often, or forget about it in the closet, but if I do use it, I plan to buy a better one in the future, so if I got a ZV-E10 I would probably sell it to buy the new one, minus lenses, but the Osmo, I would probably keep and still buy the other one as the resell value for the pocket 3 will probably be very low I am assuming.
I also want to shoot some music videos, where some background separation would be ideal for close up shots and I am not sure how the Osmo would work with that, but I would probably be relying more on lightning, color grading and creativity to get the results I might want, so between the 8 bit of the ZV-E10 and the 10 bit of the Osmo, I am not sure which one would be best, also, getting a gimbal is out of budget for now, and stable shots would be ideal for music videos.
All in all, both seem to have their advantages, so I am really stuck, but very inclined for the ZV-E10, but I am worried that it might be becoming a little outdated for the next years to come, especially since it lacks 4K60 and 10bit, but then it has the possibility to change batteries, which the Pocket 3 doesn't. I'm also worried about the new cameras that are coming out all the time, "If I wait, I might get a better deal with better specs", but then I'll never buy a camera. Should I wait? Should I get the Osmo first because its user friendly and can get good results right out the pocket (no pun intended) but is lacking in the photographic department and can't change lenses? Or should I get the ZV-E10 that has photographic capabilities, can change batteries, and is more versatile, but initially will have no gimbal, a cheap lens, is 8 bit and will be a bigger overall investment?
Sorry about the long text, and it being all over the place, I might have even forgoten to write somethings, and I will edit the post if something comes to mind, but I hope to have been clear in my explanation. I've really hit the wall on what camera to buy and it would be really cool if anyone could help me. I also accept other camera suggestions.
