2025.02.02 00:51 keithcu LinuxReport.net, a focused and very fast news site.
Hi;
Everyone says Python is slow, so I wanted to build a Flask app to learn it better and learn out how to build a high-performance, customizable news aggregator, a bit like https://drudgereport.com for the Linux community. I also decided to make one for Covid, and AI.
You can find all the links from https://linuxreport.net. ChatGPT helped me with pagination to make the websites more of a rabbit hole of interesting things to learn.
It of course has dark mode, you can also change the order, remove the underlines, or use your own feeds, but I'm more focused on having the best default choices for average users, so if you know of better links for any of the sites, or other ways to improve, let me know!

2025.02.02 00:51 pleasegestopft Considering Moving to the DFW Area
My husband grew up in the DFW area and we've been toying with the idea of moving down. Our jobs are flexible & part of our hope if we go is to try help turn a "purple" state more blue.
For context we currently live in a deep blue midwestern state. We're big Dallas sports fans and we currently live too far rurally to see sporting events or really do much (we're bored!) I also have seasonal depression and midwest winters are getting worse and worse for me every year.
Has anyone actually moved there recently and is happy they moved there? TIA! :)

2025.02.02 00:51 CheerfulAnalyst [HR] [FN] The Crooning Mother
A Tale of the Hollow Woods
Prologue: The Disappearances
The village of Briar’s Hollow was not unfamiliar with hardship. Crops failed, storms came, and winters were cruel. But nothing compared to the vanishings. At first, it was a child every few years. Then, one every season. And now? Every full moon, one was taken. There were no signs of struggle. No doors forced open. No tracks in the dirt. Just an empty bed, a faint scent of damp moss, and the echoes of a soft lullaby in the wind. A mother’s voice. Gentle. Loving. Terribly wrong. The villagers whispered of the Crooning Mother. She lived in the Hollow Woods, they said, where the trees grew twisted, where the birds never sang, where shadows moved on their own. A mother without children—so she stole them to feed her own young. But no one had ever seen her. Not until the hunter went looking.
Chapter 1: The Fool Who Went
Edric was not a brave man, nor a wise one. But his little brother was missing, and that was enough. Armed with only a rusty axe, he followed the whispers into the Hollow Woods. The deeper he went, the less the world felt real. The trees leaned when he passed, as though listening. The ground was soft, sinking under his boots like old flesh. The air smelled of milk gone sour, of damp earth and something rotting sweetly. And then, he heard it. A lullaby. It drifted through the trees, soft and low, filled with tenderness. A mother’s song. A false comfort. Then, he saw her.
Chapter 2: The Crooning Mother
She sat in a nest of bones, her warped body swaying gently. Her form was almost human—but too long, too thin, her limbs bending at unnatural angles. Her skin was pale and stretched, as if it had been pulled too tight over a malnourished frame. Her head was too large, her mouth too wide, filled with too many teeth. And in her skeletal arms, she rocked something. Not a child. Not anymore. The bundle in her arms twitched, small fingers jerking unnaturally, a wet, sucking sound filling the air. The young she was feeding were not human. Empty things, wrapped in withered flesh, their limbs writhing like grubs in rotted wood. And she sang to them, in a voice that made his body ache. Edric could not move. Could not breathe. Then, she turned her head. Her eyes were gone, but she knew he was there. Her smile stretched wider. “You are too old, love,” she whispered. “But your little one… oh, how he fed my darlings.” Something wet and soft tumbled from her lap. His brother’s head. Edric ran.
Chapter 3: The Never-Ending Song
He never spoke of what he saw. Not that he could. For though he escaped the woods, he did not truly return. At night, he heard her lullaby, echoing in his bones, calling him back. And then, the next full moon came. And another child was gone. The Crooning Mother was still hungry.

2025.02.02 00:51 Kitchen-Tie-4299 Can an iPhone Footage Make a Festival-Worthy Documentary?
I accidentally stumbled upon a village family event during a trip to Eastern Europe. It wasn't planned-I just happened to be there, spent the whole day with them, and ended up filming everything on my iPhone 14 Plus. No external mic, no professional gear, just my phone. I've got around 10 hours of raw footage, and honestly, the content is incredible. The family, the event, the rawness-it's really promising stuff. Now I'm wondering: can I turn this into a compelling documentary that reputable film festivals would take seriously? The only audio I have is from the phone. Is it possible to clean it up with software? More importantly, does the fact that it's shot on a phone matter if the content is strong enough? Would love to hear thoughts from anyone with experience in this space. Thanks.

2025.02.02 00:51 WinnieJr1 I love uni so freaking much
Hi,
This is just a bit of a rant because I feel like I need to get it out somewhere, this is the best time of my life! I'm a first year taking the societies I want and I don't even go out drinking or to pubs, and it doiesn't matter! My flatmates are angels, they're all fantastic and intelligent people, we all synergise so well! I'm great friends with some of them! My lecturers and seminar leads are just incredible! The opportunities are everywhere, and any help I ever need, I know it will be taken care of! The modules for my course are fascinating, and the uni even has relationships with unis abroad! I'm hoping to go to Taiwan under scholarship every summer (fingers crossed I get it), and a year in china! Back to the modules a little- they are more perfect than I ever thought they could be be, I didn't even know I could tailor my final year large module in the way I could. I seriously can't complain about the facilities! I don't have a huge amount of friends, but everyone is so nice! My accomodation isn't the best, I'm in a private student village, but they will take care of any problem you have, are quite affordable, renewable for every other year and the location is perfection! Literally 3 minutes from most of my modules and the facilities! To go back home I travel 11 hours by bus one-way, but that's okay! I don't may not go back too often but I'm happy here! My course doesn't do many exams, it is heavily coursework and especially essays- this is perfect for me! I thrive on essay writing and research!
To anyone who may read this, do a course you'll enjoy, take advantage of everything available and just talk to people! If you want to seem approachable, just smile, it goes a long way! I sometimes pitch my voice higher a little and exxagerate my happier emotions sometimes, but it gets people liking me, and it's no lie!
Good luck to everyone wherever they are, whether working on their GCSEs or in a career and all the steps in between!

2025.02.02 00:51 Madsummer420 Co op games where you’re mostly stationary *in the game*
My gf and I got Metaquest 3s, but we find that any game where we have to walk around in the game makes us feel dizzy and nauseous. We can handle things like Escape Room Simulator, because it’s just a small room, but if it’s a game where you’re running around a level, we start to feel nauseous within minutes.
What are some co op games that don’t involve running around and won’t make us feel sick?

2025.02.02 00:51 Accomplished-Top9077 My Opinion on the game
I think that it’s annoying that I keep rejecting Taylor but the game neglects that. I never liked Taylor. Even before I knew about the cheating he gave off a self indulgent person and at some point I had to restart and so I just made him look ugly af just for fun lol. Taylor pisses me the fuck off and now after he’s been lying to us for how many years he’s just done a 180° switch up and changed. And we are supposed to believe that? I mean come on. I think Taylor just strings us along for us to fix his issues. Like Taylor, sweetheart, please just grow a pair and stop acting like a child. Literally when Eamon confessed his love for MC I just wanted them to run away together and never look back lol.
Anyways that’s my opinion. It maybe a little harsh but oh well 🤷🏻♀️
lmk know what you think 🤔

2025.02.02 00:51 badluckfarmer I feel like we missed an opportunity to see a new Ministry of Darkness member recruited on Raw Is War the night after Wrestlemania XV. This promo was cut as part of bringing Stephanie in, which was a huge gain for the later attitude era, especially after HHH's (devastating) heel turn. But I wonder.

2025.02.02 00:51 Extreme-Stock2485 AST or PJ
Hey all, I wanted to see if I could get some guidance in choosing between AST and Pj. I’ve been beating my mind down constantly going back and forth between the two. Looking at both careers I know they can generally set you up for success for a career in EMS and especially the rescue side of things. That’s where I want to be. I also like the idea of tactical medicine with Law Enforcement, I like air ops and rescue in general. I’m curious as to what would set me up best. Do AST’s get their medic? and if they do how? Would one career be better than the other? In the end if I learn skills I wanna use them and be good at using them. I want solid call volume to learn and apply the skills and take them with me as I go. Where would be best for volume? I’m a 22y/o Ocean Lifeguard right now, my ift scores are solid for AST and Pj. I plan to have made a choice and join by 23-23.5 years of age. Any additional advice, experience or perspectives would greatly help and guide me in making this decision.

2025.02.02 00:51 ladybuglala For people who have been together a long time, how do you keep your connection, flirtiness, and funny? I'm worried that after only 4 years together, it's boring.
My husband and I (both just now 40) have been married less than 2 years, together a little over 4. We don't have kids. We've had a really difficult 18 months of trying to conceive, chemical pregnancies, miscarriages, several rounds of failed IVF. We came to the conclusion 2 weeks ago to stop trying to have kids and live a child free life. We've also been under a lot of financial stress. My husband has been trying to leave the bar industry since we met. He tried a year long UX certification course, which after 6 months of being done, still didn't produce a job. He is now 7 months into a 2 year grad degree in computer science, but still works part time at the bar. I'm a fed (has a lot of it's own stress right now) and make twice what he does, so I've been picking up most of the mortgage and bills since we met. But because my job is M-F, and his is mostly weekend evenings, it's sort of killed our ability to go anywhere out of town for a night, or take weekend road trips, etc. I also go to a lot of couples events (friends dinner parties, nights out, cabin ski trips, etc. alone)
I think all of this has really, unfortunately, killed a lot of the feelings I have. I still love him, but I'm not feeling connected. I've brought it up, and he usually plans a date or something during a weeknight that same week or the next week that I've brought it up, but then things go back to normal. I spent the first 2 years we were together planning so much fun stuff to do, planning all our dates. To this day we have never taken a trip, short or long, that I haven't planned. So I decided to take a back seat because I want my effort to be matched.
How do you couples who have been together 10+ years make things work? How do you stay connected?
