2024.11.24 22:24 NotAMeteor Mini advice: Adding snow to my miniatures.

I’ve recently ordered an after market Aragorn model based on the “Aragorn the Ranger” artwork by Adam J. Middleton and whilst waiting for it to come I decided to do a paint test on a spare ranger model.
Just for fun I thought id try adding in some snow to better match the artwork, though and although I quite like the snowy base, I’m struggling to find a way to do the snow on the mini justice. I’ve not taken too much care with the painting on this one, just colour testing but does anyone have any advice on how to add snow to minis?
I’ve tried dry brushing some corax white to the raised and exposed areas (excluding the boots as the technical blizzard hadn’t dried during the photos)
Any other suggestions would be massively appreciated, otherwise I think I’ll probably just stick to a less snowy version on the final model.

2024.11.24 22:24 Snowfall1201 Husband’s company moving across town. Where to go?

As if says my husbands company is moving from Tyvola near the airport to University City in 2025. We’re in Steele Creek but right near Lake Wylie, and the commute is going from 7 miles to way across town. We have a 15 year old daughter so safety is paramount and I don’t feel university city or direct areas around it are a good fit for us in that regard.
We’ve only ever lived in Steele Creek since moving here so I have zero clue about any decent neighborhoods that would be a better commute (doesn’t have to be 7 miles away but better than what it will be).
It’s just the 3 of us so we’re ok with townhomes or something of that sort and can make due with a 2/2 but a 3/2 would be ideal as my husband WFH half the week. Ideally staying around $2400 or less. Am I too hopeful there’s something out there?

I’m new here, so I really hope this isn’t an insensitive question, and I’m so sorry if it is.
My mom has been in and out of the hospital for 2+ weeks now. She’s so frail, she’s barely eating and drinking. She requires 24-7 care. She can barely make it back and forth to the bathroom on her own. Sometimes she can’t even do that. My dad is the one holding it all together right now. I’ve been doing what I can: Instacart, Amazon orders, cooking and cleaning their house, trying to ensure my dad is eating nutritious food and tracking his own blood pressure, making health-related phone calls for them, etc. My mom hasn’t wanted me to be involved in her physical care… yet.
My husband and I both work full time. We have a toddler. We want my parents to come stay with us for an undetermined period of time, but it will take a few weeks for us to get our space ready for them. Even when they’re with us, we have work and meetings during the day. What if she needs us? What if something happens to my dad?
I feel like I’m hanging by a single thread. Children’s songs make me cry. Someone said something mildly critical to me at the library today and again… I cried.
I truly don’t know how y’all do it. You’re the angels of this earth. I feel so overwhelmed.
Sorry if this post is just one huge ramble. I feel like I can’t think straight right now.

2024.11.24 22:24 wy1d0 Do any AM5 boards support 4090 and a 10Gb PCIe x8 NIC without reducing bandwidth to the GPU?

I just picked up a 9800x3d and an Asus TUF Gaming X670e but the bottom x16 slot is blocked by my rad and the middle slot is only x4. Trying to find a different board to swap but according to this spreadsheet, nearly all AM5 boards will cut the main GPU PCIe slot down to x8 if I want to support an x8 GPU: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NQHkDEcgDPm34Mns3C93K6SJoBnua-x9O-y_6hv8sPs/edit?usp=drivesdk
Even the high-end x870 boards seem to have same issue. I have seen a few posts saying running a 4090 at x8 is only a small performance hit, but of course I'd prefer no performance hit!
It seems crazy that there are SO MANY motherboards now yet none can run a GPU and an x8 pcie card at the same time?

Mon vehicule était assuré chez la Macif. Mon père et moi étions conducteurs. Je vais passer le contrat chez un nouvel assureur qui me demande donc le relevé d'information sur lequel apparait mon père et moi même. Cependant, mon père a eu un sinistre qui a impacté le bonus du contrat (sinistre responsable). Lors du changement d'assureur je précise que mon père ne sera pas conducteur du vehicule et que donc il n'est pas utile de le désigner. Le nouvel assureur doit-il donc reprendre l'accident ET la majoration suite au sinistre de mon père qui ne fait plus partis des conducteurs ? Ou alors acrualiser avec mes infos (aucun sinistre et donc modification du bonus/malus du contrat) ? J'ai les extraits du code des assurances mais c'est flou (Article 121-1, Art.10 et 11) Merci d'avance pour vos réponses !

I run 110 hurdles but I was always being put in the 300hs because my 2 teammates were way faster than me they run a 15.0 and I run 16.51. And before I can run it again I broke my femur because my form was terrible and I would just knock down the hurdles with my trail without pulling through and it’s been about 1 month since I cleared to run track again and I’m kinda scared to run track because my leg still feels weak after I made a full recovery in 6 months I guess what I’m asking is should I do hurdles again or wait till I feel good to run it

Hi everyone,
I'm facing an issue with my Viber backups, and I hope someone here can help. I recently switched to a new phone (Samsung S24 Ultra) in February 2024. Since then, I’ve noticed that my Viber media (photos and videos) in Google Photos only includes files from this year, starting from the time I got my new phone.
It seems like the Viber backup process might have overwritten my previous backups. The folder name in the new phone is still "Viber," which makes me wonder if the app simply replaced the older data with the new backup.
Is it possible that the old backups were completely overwritten? And if so, is there any way I can recover my older Viber photos and videos?
I’d really appreciate any insights or advice. Thanks in advance! 😊
