Okay, I should preface this by saying I don’t want to come off as having a chip on my shoulder about how “cool and quirky” I am, I’m genuinely frustrated.
So I just entered my twenties, and im a chubby black alternative person living in the Deep South. I was already aware that dating was going to be a challenge, but not this bad… The median southerner wants absolutely nothing to do with me, and the friends I do have are scattered around the state and concentrated around the big cities (understandably)
I’ve come to find out that dating other alternative people is completely off the table for anyone who isn’t thin and pale with long dark hair. I get ignored so often that it doesn’t really hurt my feelings anymore, it’s just par for the course. In light of this, I decided to try dating outside of alternative circles just to find more of the same. The main reason I tend to be overlooked in that context isn’t for my size, but either because I’m black, or because I’m the “incorrect” kind of alternative. (Which is one of the many reasons I cannot stand the romanticism of the alternative girl and the blue collar man dynamic 🙄)
The only time I’ve been explicitly looked at as an option is by men in their 30s to 60s . (My most recent ex was almost 15 years my senior) who applaud me for still looking the way I do “They don’t make em like that anymore” etc. etc. but why am I only left with men who could be my father?? It’s so frustrating.
I have no desire to change for anyone, I’ve planted my feet in the ground here and if I seriously just have to be comfortable with not dating anyone, fine. I do wish I don’t have to chose between being myself and being loved, but here we are.

2024.11.25 18:40 tam_52461 12 weeks- false starts and transfer fails
Hello, just looking for some suggestions. Our 12-week-old has been doing anywhere between 1 and 5 false starts a night (staying down for 10-45 minutes at a time) for the last two weeks. A couple of nights we have been able to resettle her and she did a long stretch in the bassinet. One night was a very long stretch (7hrs) but that was after going to a baby swim class so she was super tired. But a majority of the nights we have ultimately resulted to co-sleeping which we are not opposed to, but I would prefer to get a long stretch in the bassinet first due to discomfort in the cuddle curl all night.
We have a good bedtime routine and she eats every 2 hours or less during the day most of the time. We are currently using the Merlin sleep suit as she's transitioning out of the swaddle
We were attempting to move her bedtime up slowly as I'm going back to work in 2 and 1/2 Weeks and she will have to get up earlier in the morning, however we found that the false starts were more difficult to manage with an early bedtime, so we've moved bedtime back to about 9:00 p.m. On the advice of a Friend who is a licensed sleep trainer. We have started to discontinue nursing to sleep and we are slowly trying to stop rocking to sleep. We've been getting her to fall asleep in her bassinet with a combination of shushing, padding, and eyebrow rubs. My friend is going to help us when it comes to sleep training but she just had newborn twins and does not have the free time to help us right now.
She currently averages four to five naps a day for a typical total of about 4 to 4 and 1/2 hours of daytime sleep and she typically gets 9 to 10 hours overnight with 2-4 feeds. Her wake windows have extended to about an hour and a half though. Usually the first one of the day is a little shorter and the last room of the day might be closer to two. The frustrating part is she does the first nap of the day in her crib and she will fall asleep in less than 3 minutes and sleep for an hour with just a little bit of shushing or patting. If only she would fall asleep that way at night!
Any suggestions on helping with the fall starts or things we can be doing to help her with sleeping in the future would be fantastic.

Hi everyone! I wanted to understand a bit the experience of an MD in biomedical research and some of the limitations in terms of understanding the material and participation in labs.
I know there are several MD's who participate in bioengineering research, but many of them have a phd in it as well. Do you believe it is beneficial to earn some sort of biomedical degree to participate in research or can MDs do enough?

2024.11.25 18:40 Wonderful_Ad3441 How can I make it more entertaining?
So I LOVE astronomy, I like to read here and there about it and learn, and wish to actually delve into it and learn more extensively. But when I take out my telescope it’s pretty cool and fun for the first few minutes but then it gets pretty boring for me. Idk if that’s because I have a cheap $20 telescope. But I wish to be more captivated when watching the moon and stars.
How can I “spice it up”? How can it be more fun and engaging?

I've filed for divorce. It's contested. And we are still living in the same home.
In the last several weeks my husband has: (Relavent info, last year he claimed if I divorced him he was going to self harm)
- A few weeks ago he bought thick rope. On Saturday morning his demeanor seemed off. He told me to take our daughter and go have fun for the day. As we were getting ready to leave, he tied a noose.
- I've been sleeping in our master bedroom since it's the only place I can sleep with a significant back injury. He has been coming into our bed in the middle of the night and keeps trying to stick his hand up my shirt. I locked the door and he picked the lock and told me it's his house and his bed and if I don't like it leave (it's our house and our bed).
- He started an argument the other day after insisting on riding with us. Then he was driving on the way back. And his driving scared me. He didn't break the law in any way. But he slammed on the breaks at a stop sign. Then took off really fast.

I am trying to fact check Destiny’s claim that Dave Rubin’s videos on the Tenet Media channel were in the single hundreds of views. I made the mistake of assuming Destiny was referring to Rubin’s views on his own channel, but those were usually a couple hundred thousand views a video.
Does anyone have an archive or snapshot of the TENET media channel?

2024.11.25 18:40 Mysterious-Expert222 Gf of 3 years just broke up with me. Don't know what to do next
I know it's dumb to be upset for a break up and rant about it but I'm at a loss I feel terrible. She was the only person I could tell everything too. She knows everything about me and I just don't think I'll ever find someone like her and with her sense of humor and personality again. It's sad but I want to reach out amd ask for advice on how to move on from people with maybe the same experience. I'm also looking for any new coping skills to help me forget her other than just drowning myself in alcohol like I usually do. I hate how much I miss her but it can't be helped. If there's anyone out there with the same experience please give me any advice u can spare. Alot of bad stuff has happened to me recently amd this feels like the straw that broke the camels back. I don't think I'll ever be happy again. But I'm willing to try.
