2024.11.25 20:48 Dolly_Llama_2024 Does a dedicated powder ski make sense for me?
I live in a region with big mountains that gets a lot of snow (the "PNW") and have an Epic Pass for Whistler. I am an intermediate skier that's trying to improve, primarily to become a better off piste skier. My on piste abilities are adequate for me and my goal of improving technique is primarily to become a better off piste skier. However, I am obviously aware that on piste and off piste skills are very closely related and that I need to first perfect the skills on piste and then bring those skills off piste.
I currently have a 106 wide ski (QST 106) and a 92 wide ski for the groomers. I've never felt the need or desire to get something fatter than the QST 106 because A) I am just a "weekend warrior" who works a desk job in the city and aims to get like 10-20 days at Whistler per year, B) in general I can't be too picky with the days I go so I am more just accepting whatever conditions are available when I am able to go, C) of course I like powder days but the big powder days on the weekend are a gong show at Whistler and I'm hesitant to deal with the madness for a handful of good laps and D) the few days per year where I am able to get up there with a good amount of fresh snow, how many untracked runs am I really getting in before it gets tracked out? All of these factors have led me to think that my QST 106 is the more practical choice for me to ski in general as it's good enough in powder but also very versatile so I use that most ski days at Whistler regardless of the conditions.
All that being said, I am still curious about a fatter ski as my goal is to do more off piste skiing and this season is looking good so far so thinking this might be a good opportunity to try out a fatter ski. Any advice would be appreciated and let me know if you have any specific ski recommendations. I am thinking of something like a Rustler 11 - considerably wider than my 106 but still relatively versatile and not a 100% powder ski that has limited general use.

Hi internetparents! I have exciting news: Iāve gotten a tech job!! After six months of looking since graduation, I finally got an offer. The pay is pretty good, and the company seems super chill. Iāll be starting in January, and it requires relocation. To that end, Iāve started looking at apartments in the area.
I admit, Iām a little bit lost. This will be my first time living in an apartment of my own: Iāve been in a housing program for a while, and before that I lived with my parents. So I have no frame of reference for what Iām looking for in my search, or how to go about getting the thing when Iāve found one.
I know enough to have a few specific questions, at least:
- Can I use my new job as a source of income, even if I havenāt started it yet? My old job was a cashier position, Iād never be able to get approved on that pay.
- Can I email the landlord/property company questions about their requirements? I presume they would be the best source to ask regarding the prior question and similar ones, but I donāt know if that puts me in a bad position with them or something.
