Olá pessoal! I have decided to spend Carnaval in Salvador with a friend from São Paulo. I will be there from February 24th to March 3rd and then don't need to be back in São Paulo until March 10th. Would love some recommendations.
Questions:
- Any specific recommendations on how I should spend my time in Salvador? My friend has been before, so I feel like I am in good hands, but always good to get an outside perspective on how best to enjoy Carnaval.
- I have one week to fill after Carnaval before I need to be back in São Paulo. Any suggestions? I expect to be exhausted an over-socialised after Carnaval, so I'm looking for something lower key. I'm thinking a good beach getaway or an itinerary to slowly make my way back by bus, stopping in cool spots along the way.
- I am a gringo, early 30s, fluent in Portuguese
- I've spent around 10 months in total in Brazil and am pretty comfortable navigating around here
- I enjoy outdoor adventures, being in nature and connecting with interesting people (both Brazilians and other gringos)
- I have already spent a bunch of time in Rio, Recife and the Chapada Diamantina, so am looking for suggestions other than these.

I'm hoping to be a Marketing/Business Major, and I've attended a one week Economics camp at Yale over the summer, did a 6 month paid internship, do marketing for my school's admissions department, and I'm the executive marketing director at a non-profit founded by some colleagues. I also do a lot of other misc. stuff including two varsity sports and being the head/board for 4 clubs. I was wondering what I can do to increase my chances and also am I cooked?

2024.11.25 21:40 This-Caterpillar-187 Should I wear a 20 gauge nose ring if I was pierced with an 18 gauge stud?
I got my nose pierced back in January of this year and I've been wearing the same 18 gauge stud since I got it pierced. I haven't had many issues with it other than a couple bumps for the first two months of having it, but back in May I tried to change it to an 18 gauge nose hoop. It started bleeding and getting irritated and I looked online that it was not good to change your piercing this early (as well as the fact that 18g hoops tend to be thicker than 18g studs) so I took it out and put the stud back in. Now that I've had it for around 10 months, I want to change it to a 20g hoop because it's thinner than the 18g hoop. It's healed pretty well but I'm worried that the 20 gauge hoop I just bought will be too small and cause the "cheese cutter effect". Should I be fine with the 20 gauge or should I buy an 18 gauge instead? Thank you!

 | A little background…Turning 35 next year and am around 160lbs. Never was a runner but started running in late July of this year. Got my Garmin Forerunner 265 in early September and fully started using Garmin Run Coach in late September. Priority is set to Marathon for next year and this 10K was a supporting event. Ran my first ever race as a 10K over the weekend. Was a bit nervous as I had never run faster than a pace of 9/mi for a 10K and Garmin was expecting a sub 8/mi pace. My best 5K was around 8:15/mi back in October and I knew I could potentially get that down to 7:45/mi pace for a 5K. So I was pleasantly surprised to have been able to race this 10K at almost the same speed as what I thought I could only do with a 5K. Anyway, around mile 4.5? 5?, I took some water from an aid station which was a mistake since I guess I drank too much and immediately started getting cramps in my chest. I normally don’t drink water during a 10K during training. I don't understand the confusion. Yes, I think it's pretty obvious there's a double standard between these two. However, pointing that out isn't the "gotcha" that you might think it is.
Kendrick Lamar delves into the breadth of the human experience in a way that Drake is incapable of. Drake talks a lot about heartbreak and betrayal -- both very real emotions that audiences' relate to, of course; but that hardly compares to the depths that Kendrick goes into. Drake doesn't illustrate to us the humiliations of poverty, for example; or the trauma of street violence or the inferiority complex and self-hatred a lot of people have and struggle with.
These two artists have double standards because one artist has dedicated multiple bodies of work talking about of the trials and tribulations of these experiences, and the other doesn't. And that's OK. I personally don't want Drake to speak on these things. I like Drake with the melodies, I don't like Drake when he acts tough.
I feel like a lot of the pro-Drake people who are populating these conversations are incapable (at least publicly) of seeing the world beyond themselves. Drake doesn't demand that of his audience, though. Again, that's perfectly fine. We as listeners shouldn't have to be subjected to pain and introspection every time we play something. But Kendrick doesn't do that in his music. He demands his listeners to employ empathy. He is constantly channeling the voices of people who didn't make it or voices who have been forgotten and overshadowed. This is a fundamental difference in these two artists' approach to the genre.
In the year 2024, we have nearly 15 years of music from these two. When one of them speaks, they're not strangers to us. We have become closely acquainted with aspects of their public personality. So yes, when Kendrick says something "small," we are going to look closely at it and examine it with a fine-pick because we have hundreds of hours of music that has shown us his habit packaging multiple layers into every little thing that he does. Drake has not shown us that.
Drake is someone who is aspirational while Kendrick is someone who is inspirational -- there's a difference.

Yellow stains on white cotton duvet from baby food that contained kabocha squash, bison, spinach, and olive oil.
I tried:
- oxi clean stain remover and then put in the washer with bleach
- scrubbing with dish soap and then put in the washer with bleach
- soaking stains in vinegar and then washed again
The stains are still a dark yellow color, is there any product or method I could use now to remove or at least significantly fade them? Apply diluted bleach directly to the stain?

The title is the body. I’ve asked Prof David Chalmers of the ‘hard problem of consciousness’ fame years ago and below is part of his response (email):
a background in cognitive science certainly helps, though it isn't 100% required -- there are many ways to do philosophy of mind and science-oriented is just one of them. That said, the trend is in that direction, and knowing some psychology and neuroscience as well as AI and linguistics won't hurt.
So if science-oriented is the trend, which would be the best undergraduate subject? Psychology? Biology then graduate neuroscience? Computer science? Linguistics?
