2024.11.26 21:35 watchdogubc123 Drag Show Disaster
I went to a "drag" show 2 weeks ago, and it's haunted my mind for a while now, not because it was good. Quite the opposite.
First of all, the show was at a hotel venue 5 minutes away from Skid Row, where I live, but it cost an astounding 60 dollars to attend. Luckily, my s/o covered the cost, but I would not have gone for that price. I was not interested in going, but I was told it was a Britney Spears tribute, and it was a Friday night. Don't blame me.
The show started, and an overweight, nonbinary biological woman (not transgender nor a man in a wig woman) went on stage and started doing a land acknowledgement. In said land acknowledgement, she said everybody must honour Indigenous artists, following this with a request to hear the audience repeat after her. She asked the audience to say "Free Palestine" out loud. Next, she follows this up with an acknowledgement that sex workers got us here (here where???). This, by itself, had already turned me 100% down in terms of interest.
Finally, starting the show, the host spent 10 minutes fumbling the bag with the DJ trying to get the right track to play, making me lose any sliver of hope that this show was going to be remotely interesting.
Once the show started, the entire show was like watching a body horror. Poorly made-up, clumsily dancing white women went onto the stage in skimpy BDSM outfits, dancing to Britney's songs. This was a recurring theme - no performer, but one was an actual drag artist (I am not counting a nonbinary "drag king"). The rest were women, self-claiming that they were "cunty" or "sexy." They were none of the above.
Turns out this was a Burlesque show, which I was not informed of. Neither was my s/o. So the entire show, I was watching unappealing, unsexy white pawgs grinding and bumping on stage. The show left me more terrified than entertained. Needless to say, the host wasn't helping, attempting to use blue humour with every skit switch to no avail. I attempted to keep drinking through the night, but the show's general failure meant I was unable to look away from this disaster.
Finally, a single-drag artist went on. But this artist was coupled with a dishevelled looking bald nonbinary female "performer," ruining any entertainment appeal to the show.
After the show, I left with my s/o as soon as possible. I think entertainment is dead these days. But it might also be my fault for getting sucked into that weird, enby left-leaning space.

 | This was my grandfathers Bear Whitetail 2 compound bow before he passed. For about 15 years I would shoot it for target practice. I don’t go hunting and only target shoot as a hobby. I put a new sight and arrow rest on it but I have yet to buy a new string for it. Is this something I can still shoot good with today or should I buy a new modern bow that’s specifically for me?
