Hi all,
I'm an international student in Berlin finishing my MA thesis at Freie Universität. My thesis is in the field of literary linguistics, so it's been very hard for me to find any kind of supervisor willing to take me on. When I discovered that the founder of the International Journal of Literary Linguistics is actually teaching at JGU, I knew I had to give it a shot!
While I'm nowhere near ready to apply for anything, I do know a few things:
- It's almost impossible for me to get into a research group or another type of structured doctorate program with my thesis topic. I'm very okay getting a full-time job (I currently have a Werkstudent job at a good position) and joining as an individual. I know this puts me in a hit-or-miss situation with impressing the professor enough to take me on, but it is what it is.
- Likewise, I've set up a family with their own support network in Berlin. Moving to Mainz for 3-5 years, finding a new job, a new apartment, etc. would be almost impossible. I've heard that individual doctorates have a lot more freedom to work remotely or commute to their advisor (even if the process itself is WAY more difficult) and this seems like a good compromise to me.

Realize there are probably a hundred theads on this topic, but I thought I'd post this and see what I get in response.
Looking for a new pair of headphones (I could only select one flair but open to other types of headphones). I listen to a lot of music on the go and during work (electronic/rock/indie/soundtracks); usually wearing them in my apartment to watch tv/movies to block out neighbors and minimize my own noise output, and for gaming (PS5).
I have the Hyper Cloud II for gaming, which is fine, but would love an upgrade. The gaming headphone rabbithole has worn me out, and honestly, reading reviews is so circular (read one positive review, read one negative review, move on to the next headphones, etc., end up back at the first headphones). On the one hand, I've heard good things about the Audeze Maxwell (wireless), but I'm wary of the heaviness of the headset. On the other hand, I'm cognizant that driving any wired headphone through a PS5 controller is going to compromise sound quality, but I'm open to being proved otherwise. I should also mention that I did try the HD 660s for gaming, but couldn't stand using them for FPS (I play a lot of Destiny 2).
I did test out some wireless headphones, but honestly wasn't that impressed with most of the pairs I tried in the $300-500 range (e.g. BW Px7 S2e, XM5, SM4). I actually thought the Sonos Ace sounded pretty good (excellent instrumental separation, clarity, ANC) although lacking a bit in the bass department. Not terribly keen to buy a first generation headphone that may be improved one year later.
Anyway, open to any and all suggestions. Hopefully my post gave some indication of my listening preferences. I realize that I covered a few different uses, and there probably isn't a headset that does everything (wouldn't that be nice?).
I'd appreciate any recommendations!

Male friendships have been shown in cinema since the beginning of time.
After the hays code was instilled, they have actually been prioritized in terms of the kind of representation men get to have in film and television.
So I need people to understand, before reading the rest of this, that men have had over a 100 years of representation, where any form of intimacy they show to eachnother is attributed to them being bros. Men don't get to be gay. Or trans. Or bisexual. Etc. In popular media.
Queer men, statistically have an incredible lack of representation for the era that we live in.
And if anyone tries to challenge me on this, I will come with receipts. I am a media analyst. I know my history.
ANYWAY,
I fail to understand how people watched Jayce and Viktor's whole situation, and ultimately decided that there is no form of love outside of platonic bromance present within their relationship.
This in itself doesn't bother me, even though I think it's silly. What bothers me is the disgust that I see people vocalize towards anyone who does think they are queer characters.
I would like to point back to my initial statement about bromance. But I would also like to say, if queer men, who have relationships with other men, watch this media and decide that it resonated with their experience, why are people acting like they're in the wrong?
I genuinely need to understand why it BOTHERS people that there are individuals in this fandom, who think those bitches are gay. Touch grass. The worst person who believes they're gay is like a 14 year-old fushoji who you can just block if you think they're annoying lol.
Especially when regardless of what some head writer said (who btw, does not soley determine canon because hes ONE writer out of a team of people),
the textual narrative shows us a relationship that is objectively beyond male besties. I don't understand how violently people are reacting to the concept that these two characters might have the capacity to love someone who is a man.
Please, someone explain this to me.

Hello!!
Im looking to take advantage of some black friday deals. The tv will be used for gaming mainly with a PS5 and Xbox Series X. I have a been using either a 43" LCD or a 60" projection tv.
I know i want a 4K tv so I can actually use the features of these system. I will be sitting about 10'-11' away probably less since It'll be on an entertainment center. I know OLEDS are the way to go (was going to try for an LG C4) but i just don't think its in the cards budget wise.
Are there any TVs that will give me 4k and great refresh rate without without being OLED? (QNED QLED etc). I've seen Highsense and TCL getting a lot of love and a lot of hate. I know Sony, Samsung LG all have non OLEDS. I just don't know what would be worth the money. I also realize I've been using potatoes for tv's up until now so i feel like anything would be good. Any thought or recs would be appreciated.
