2024.11.28 18:51 egabayot Black Friday Deals for Building a Homelab from Scratch?

Hey everyone, I’m a newbie looking to dive into the world of homelabs and build my first setup from scratch. Since I’m starting with nothing, I’ll need everything—servers, networking equipment, storage solutions, cables, and even accessories like power management.
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday here, I figure it’s a great time to start picking up components at a discount. Are there any deals, brands, or specific items you’d recommend for someone just getting started?
I’d love advice on what to prioritize, especially for a beginner-friendly setup. Any tips, guidance, or resources would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

2024.11.28 18:51 BigTIMeTimmyJim33 First Successful Bread Bake in the Dome – Thanks for the Tips!

I just had amazing results on my first bread-baking attempt in the Dome, and I owe a huge thank-you to everyone who has shared their experiences and tips here. I incorporated many of your suggestions, and they definitely paid off—I'm thrilled with how it turned out!
That said, I ran into an issue I haven’t seen mentioned much: the oven temperature dropped pretty quickly during the closed bake. I closed the chimney, used the rope door, and shut the side vent, but I still saw about a 300°F drop within 10 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this?
For context, the outside temperature was around 45–50°F. With the Dome being so well insulated and everything sealed up, I didn’t expect to lose that much heat so quickly. Is this normal, or could I be missing something in my setup or process?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts—thanks in advance

2024.11.28 18:51 berlinparisexpress Best cheap and fast daily trainer?

Hey everyone,
Been running quite seriously for 10 years now, mostly on trail but I run a road race every few years (1:20 half marathon, 37'50 10k, 17'50 5k).
I usually have only one pair of road shoes in rotation, so it has to do everything from tempo and intervals to slower runs (basically between 3:30/km and 6:30/km), as well as the occasional road race (probably once or twice per year).
I always buy shoes on sale for under 100 euros/$. Not that I can't afford it but mostly because to me, it's just not worth it, and I haven't gotten used to the recent hike in price. Seems like yesterday when a 150$+ shoe was seen as a WILD bet by shoe companies.
Anyways, the Hoka Rincon 3 has been my go-to for a few years and they've just been discontinued for a weirder version that got mixed reviews. Would try the Clifton but it seems on the slow side.
Currently eyeing a pair of Adizero SL2 for 98 euros, would that be a good choice for me?
Thanks a lot for your advice!

2024.11.28 18:51 didyouwoof Great news for anyone who’s on Medicare and hasn’t been able to get Nurtec: Cigna Healthcare Saver Rx (PDP) has it on its formulary (other Part D plans don’t).

This matters because the new $2,000 out-of-pocket limit applies only to formulary drugs. In other words, if you have a different Part D plan, which doesn’t have it on the formulary (and I don’t think any of the others do), you’re out of luck. You’ll still have to pay a few hundred bucks for it if you switch to Cigna before open enrollment ends on December 7, but you’ll hit the out-of-pocket limit at some point and then it will be free.
I am absolutely over the moon that I’ll be able to get it again in a matter of weeks! The last year has been miserable as I’ve had to ration what was left of the Nurtec I’d stockpiled before going on Medicare.
(For anyone who’s not on Medicare, please don’t bother suggesting the manufacturer’s coupon, as that coupon is for people who aren’t receiving any kind of governmental assistance, such as as Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits.)

2024.11.28 18:51 Holiday-Dog-1628 Wintertodt Reward Cart Glitch

Hello and happy Thanksgiving!
I’m working on fire making and thus have been grinding in Wintertodt. I thought it would be fun to stack rewards in the cart from levels 80-85. Last night I had in the neighborhood of ~80-90 unclaimed rewards. I just played today and finally made it to level 85, but I noticed my rewards counter was at ~20-30. I didn’t claim any of the rewards from last night and was expecting to do a haul of over 100 rewards, but I come to find out my rewards from last night are “missing”. I’m upset as I’m still trying to get the full outfit and it took me a few hours to accumulate those rewards. Does anyone have any idea what happened or what to do?

2024.11.28 18:51 graywolfkayak Chromebook for non-gamer

Hi,
I'm a 68 year old non-gamer who uses my laptop mainly for web browsing, email and paying bills. I have zero interest in gaming.
My old ASUS runs Windows 10, and cannot support the move to Windows 11, and I'm tired of all the Windows updates, etc. The only thing that I value on my laptop is Microsoft Money where I track my accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, budget, etc.), so I'm planning on keeping my ASUS as an unconnected device so I can continue using MS Money (I have my financial history going back a long ways in there, and I like that it's not cloud-based).
So, I'm looking for advice on a Chromebook - again mainly for web browsing, email and paying bills. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

2024.11.28 18:51 Beautiful-Holiday998 statpearls question volume and explanations

The thing about the statpearls qbank is 1.) there is a huge quantity of questions so your pretty much getting the right volume of practice questions for select topics 2.)The explanations have entire article associated with them. For board exams like step 2 i definitely found it helpful because it provided a lot of clarity on questions based of scores or some sort of criteria (ie: Wells, Duke criteria etc.). This is definitely an underrated resource and I recommend it to anyone studying for boards or even anyone needing CME credits

2024.11.28 18:51 RockinTheFlops Sterling AG

Sterling AG Hey All,
This kiddush cup was gifted to my parents 30 years ago by my great-grandfather, who immigrated to the US from Russia ~1918.
The design seems typical of Russian kiddush cups from that time, with the jagged etching style and the 3 leaf motif (not sure what that represents, additional info there would be appreciated as well).
No clue when/where it's from. Would love some help identifying.
No Russian hallmarks on this thing, just the STERLING AG, so I'm assuming it's from the US.
I've seen Sterling AG hallmarks on a couple of other early-ish 20th C kiddush cups, none of the listings have offered more info or context.
This cup could have belonged to my great-great-grandfather; could be something that was purchased on the Lower East Side in mid-century. I really have no idea. Any help would be much appreciated.

[Request] Just curious, how tall are each of the mountains in this scene from Eternals (2021)? According to a VFX artist from the film, the full height of Tiamut (the giant turned archipelago) is 500 km. From that, I managed to get somewhere around 25 km from base to summit of the head poking above the water.
Does this calculation match the height above the clouds or the visible curvature of the earth?

Nutrition graph interaction seems “frozen” Specifically, when I change the months under nutrition and choose a day, there are two issues I noticed:
  1. The data is another behind. I.e, if you select a day in November, it shows data for October and
  2. It only shows the one day as well, i.e., when you select a day in November, they all show the same single day’s data from the previous month

2024.11.28 18:51 iminnola Mostly playing Team Fortress 2 & Quake & Doom - $700.

Hi,
Want something that I can play Team Fortress 2 and the Quake and Doom games.
Want to stay around or under $700 or so.
What's a good option for me? I'm overwhelmed with all the options out there and don't know if most are overkill for what I want to play.
Sorry if this is a dumb question Thanks.
I'd like to take advantage of black Friday deals.
