2025.01.18 23:18 LawBlur Advice on lr3 radio replacement (undoing what previous owner botched)
Backstory: I bought an 05 LR3 SE for cheap. Previous owner "upgraded" head unit by putting in a Chinese android tablet screen. The screen covers console buttons (defrost, central locking, hazard, etc) so I'm ripping it out. Just found out they cut the OEM harness (no big deal, I figured I needed to do some wiring for Boss audio unit I bought). They didn't use an adapter and left the optic cables just dangling (OK, weird. How did they get sound to work?). They cut the amp wiring and just ran audio cables to the main four speakers. Not only that, they removed the factory amp.
Here's where I need some opinions: Do I get a used ebay amp and rewire? They removed one of the harness clips I think, so it will be a lot of re-pinning and soldering to undo their damage. Would it be better just to get an aftermarket amp? The car has the mid range speaker setup (four tweeters, four mid range, and a rear sub). Does that mean I'll need an amp capable of 8 channels plus a sub?
I'm thinking the cheapest option will be to get a used rover amp, but if I have to buy a conversation cable for the head unit too, maybe it would be cheaper to wire an aftermarket amp directly.
Trying to keep the costs on the low side or I'd just take it to an audio shop.

I recently bought a super cheap car, and my goal is to keep it that way. I bought a super cheap head unit for it, and am wanting to know what the community's thoughts are on the best super cheap speakers would be for it on Amazon? I've always had nice systems in my cars with amps for all of the components, but I wanted to have try a different route this time. Are there any surprisingly good (for their price) speakers that are sub $40 on Amazon that you have had experience with? The front speakers I am replacing are 6.5" and they need to be fairly shallow from what I can tell. The music primarily playing through the system will be Japanese pop from the 1980s.
