This past year, I get these anxiety terrors at night. If I am even the slightest bit anxious about ANYTHING or careless about my bedtime routine, I get them. They always involve people breaking into my house, sometimes repeatedly. Sometimes it will be me trying to keep them out, sometimes it will just be hearing a noise, or sometimes it will just be me waking up in a terror. I watch sitcoms and drink warm milk at night to help, but the smallest thing will trigger.

here's a positive vent about my favorite repeat client who has been using my service for about a year now.
She has three older dogs (9-11ish years old), but I've never watched all of them at the same time during a sitting. It's usually two, but once it was just one. She's aware her dogs are kind of a handful, so I think that's why I've never had to watch all three. I was nervous at the first meet n greet because the dogs would not stop barking, but she assured me it's because I'm new to them and they would calm down when it came to the booking. I was worried I would be stuck in the middle of a forest the entire week with two howling dogs, but I trusted her! I'm glad I did, because she was right. They get excited upon my arrival, but after getting that energy out, they just snooze all day, occasionally wanting to play or go potty. They're older and all have some varying level of health problems, so they rest often. They are so incredibly sweet. I can tell she puts time and effort into training them and letting them utilize the instincts of their breed (they are all hounds). With every sitting I notice improvements in certain behaviors, but dogs will be dogs and bark and have unpredictable anxieties. She acknowledges this! I've had owners dismiss biting, vomiting, excessive humping, etc. The only "major" issue with these dogs is that they're vocal (again, they are hounds! totally normal for that breed!)
When she hires me she gives me plenty of heads up, sometimes months in advance. On the rare instance she does "last minute" bookings, she compensates for it with a tip. I put that in quotes because the only one or two times this has happened, it was actually 2 weeks ahead, which I've told her is not typically what my other local clients consider "last minute". But she's so understanding because she does Rover too, and it seems she does well. She is super knowledgeable about dogs and leaves detailed instructions for each of her dogs, and even leaves out doggy first-aid pamphlets on her counter, alongside all of the supplies I may need for them (dog food, treats, slow feeders, hotspot spray, etc.). She seems to be the best dog owner I've ever sat for with how well her dogs are taken care of, and all of the measures she takes to ensure the sitting goes well. Not to mention her home is beautiful and in a gorgeous part of the country, and I love the seclusion in the forest. It's always clean and arranged well for me, with clean linens and towels. She tells me to help myself to her food, and she means it. It's a bit of a drive from my apartment, so she even sends gas money as a tip for every sitting. She communicates well and isn't ever demanding an update, and she seems to actually care about me as a person and a dog sitter. Honestly, if I didn't have a local dogsitter of my own already, I would be so willing to drive my own dog to her place for her services when I'm out of town.
I'm currently sitting for her right now and we've already discussed a future booking in a few months. This woman is seriously so kind and I've never been accommodated at a clients home to the degree she has. Sometimes my spouse will join me on the bookings with her dogs because they can be long, and she doesn't mind one bit. Her dogs are lovely, her home is welcoming, and I look forward to every booking.
Just thought I would share this since I feel that the positive relationship here outweighs every since bad experience I've had while dogsitting through Rover. I kind of want to do something for her to show my appreciation... I brought my paint markers and other art supplies to keep busy during this booking, would it be weird if I drew her dogs and left it for her when I leave? 2025.01.19 01:50 cucamonster What would a new Painkiller game look and play like?

It would likely be developed using the latest version of Unreal Engine, featuring impressive graphics and cutting-edge physics. I could also see environmental destruction being a key element. But how could they evolve the gameplay mechanics, Tarot Cards, bosses, and progression?
I imagine the game would have a robust co-op mode, though I'm uncertain about the inclusion of PVP multiplayer. A new Painkiller would definitely need some quality of life improvements to draw in new players.
Perhaps incorporating some rogue-lite elements with the Tarot Cards could add an exciting twist?

Now, I may not be a super intelligent individual, but a whistleblower to me, is somebody who blowers the bloody whistle and tells the world exactly what's going on. Not this staged pretend disclosure. I feel scammed everytime we see one of these headlines of Knapp, Coulthart or Corbell, or literally any of these well paid people.

My 7 month old dog was doing so well with her crate up until a few days ago when she pinched her paw somehow and has been terrified of it ever since. So far we’ve been feeding meals inside, and trying to lure her in with treats over and over hoping she’ll make some progress and get over her fear. We haven’t started shutting her in and probably won’t for a little while. Is there anything else we can do to help her get back to a trusting relationship with the crate?
When we were introducing crate training we would wait till she was dead asleep to put her in there to continue sleeping. We found that to be a successful introduction, so I’m hoping we can do that again in a few days.

I was just musing to myself on the fact that this setting has quite a bit of a vitalism streak to it, in that there seems to be something inherently special, physics-wise to living matter, as opposed to non-living. So, in that case, why should the Resurrection Beasts of the non-lifebearing planets be such a threat? Even assuming that there's inherently thalergy in tectonic activity or something, just as like a decrease in entropy, that should still just be a drop in the bucket compared to Earth, right? I know John and Harrow talked about how the soul of a planet is made up of all its living things.
Like, is Jupiter meant to have formerly had an ecosystem in its upper clouds or is all the thalergy that lead to its RB just derived from the pre-Resurrection colonists/researchers living on it? That doesn't seem like enough. Alecto should be the only RB who could possibly pose a threat to John. The others should be insignificant.

2025.01.19 01:50 DasFerrus Port Forwarding Trouble

I'm trying to set up a storage/media/game server. Just moved to a new house, left my ethernet cable behind, and just port forwarded using the wifi adapter, no issues whatsoever. I plugged in yesterday, and went to port forward using the ethernet adapter. I changed nothing about the process, only the local ip used to forward, and it will not work. Tried switching back to the old setup on the wifi adapter, and now that won't work either. Used ipconfig to confirm im using the correct local address, and I am, but the port remains closed according to portchecker. Contacted my ISP and they said everything should be working from their pov. Reluctantly, I believe them. Anybody see issues like this before? Is it possible to do a hard reset on the adapters and I can try to just start over?
