When adding multiple MeshInstance3D cubes (even with the same shared material), the draw call counter increases with every new MeshInstance3D.
The MergeGroups node from Godot 3 is not available in Godot 4 yet, so how do I keep my levels performant when building with mesh instances? I prefer to stay in the Godot Engine without jumping to dedicated 3D tool like Blender.

2025.01.19 12:18 tfmeier LG 86" TV replacement question

I'm coming off an LG 86 Nano (86NANO91TNA) and have the option of the following two models:

Why only LG? My home automation system has good integration with LG (and Samsung smart TVs).
The confusion behind the various manufacturer terminologies makes it hard to choose. Is QNED the next evolution of Nano? Is it worthwhile or simply a marketing play? What's the deal with the UT80 model? It looks like the QNED86 has a higher refresh rate, HDMI2.1 and a few other extras. I'm not gaming but do like to watch 4K content in the evenings. The other aspect when replacing TVs/technology in general is future proofing so HDMI2.1 might come into that.
On the other hand part of me says that if the UT8050 is at a quality of my current LG 86 Nano (86NANO91TNA) then I should be good (even though I may not be future proofing with this). So I'd like to clarify that first. Then the next question is what "upgrades" I'm getting by going to the QNED86.
Any advise here?

Rating Campaign Missions based on Difficulty (on Brutal): Wings Of Liberty Disclaimer: Long read ahead, TLRD at the very bottom.
So, when I look at my profile, there's this tiny little window in the lower right showing the campaign progress, and mine shows "All Normal Missions" on all Three Campaigns. I hate that; I have been playing this game off-and-on since at least late 2016 and have yet to beat the campaigns on Brutal, so I decided to put my sanity to the test and do just that. I started with Wings of Liberty (duh), and in full nerd mode, I made an excel sheet with how difficult I thought the missions were. I would give each mission a rating based on how difficult I thought it was, these ratings are Easy (green), Manageable (yellow), Difficult (Orange) and Insane (Red, you know which missions I'm talking about).
I played Nikstar's canon mission order (to spice things up a bit, as if my life was already easy enough) so my choices were Tosh/Hanson/Tychus but I still played every single mission with no exceptions and put them all on my list. I will at some point do the same for the other two and a half campaigns (sorry Nova), but for now I still have a final boss to beat: I have yet to score 500k on the stupid Arcade game!
Notes about my choice of rating:
  • Green are obvious, these are missions that you can beat fairly consistently, I generally didn't need to save that often (or at all).
  • Yellow are a bit harder, but still doable if you understand the mission enough and keep up your macro/don't lose your units if no-build mission. They can be played in one go, and generally you might not be reloading that often.
  • Orange are difficult missions, these will test your sanity. You will have to save often, you will be reloading, but you will get through it with solid macro and good management of your units.
  • Red, as mentioned, you already knew what these were, and they are insaaaane. The game is relentless with the pressure, you will lose your stuff, you will reload often and even restart the mission entirely, and you will cry. But if you come out the other side, you will be a changed man, maybe a little less sane, but ready to take on the world (or, in my case, hopefully the next campaign).
Anyway, that was a lot of build-up, here are the missions and my difficulty rating for each:

Notes on some of the missions:
  • Welcome To The Jungle: this I think we can all agree on as a fairly difficult mission, and it doesn't help that I played this fairly early-on in the run (8th mission overall). I think that having some anti-air other than just Marines and "Goliaths" (sarcastic quotation marks) could make it simpler, but I don't think it can ever get the rating of "Easy".
  • Engine of Destruction: this one was just very taxing to my multitasking, my 30yo brain could barely keep up with Tychus with healing and anti-air; and it was made more difficult by the fact that I didn't have access to Vikings yet (the final Haven mission is played significantly late in the Nikstar mission order). Also, why does Science Vessel healing suck so much?
  • Piercing The Shroud: The garage section is pretty difficult imo, I had to forgo the brutalisk bonus and use the bot to clear through the garage; then tried to be fancy and unleash the brutalisk on the dominion with one very brave (and very dead) Marine (unsure if this would actually work), but unfortunately the escape cinematic launched before they killed it (cuz it destroyed the objective).
  • Smash And Grab: this got close, WAY too close before I beat it. I keep thinking that maybe I just mismanaged it and let the zerg advance farther than they should before I beat it; so some people might disagree with this rating.
  • The Dig: again, you play this fairly early in the Nikstar order (Right after Welcome To The Jungle actually, Nikstar is actually unhinged), so again I was severely lacking in the AA department, but Thank God for Siegetanks. I saw that some people beat this with permanently cloaked Ghosts/Specters, but I didn't have access to those either yet. If you're playing an achievements run, this will probably spike up to Red if you play it this early. (Also why do you hate yourself? Do the achievements on Hard like the rest of us plebs.)
  • Supernova: Probably the most I struggled with a mission that isn't rated Red, and I'm not even sure why. I beat this with my CC floating right by the objective behind a couple of banshees and some Hell's Angels.
  • Maw Of The Void: I beat this with the Giant Grant Games special, four Specters (with orbital strike) and four nukes. I'm not yet sure how it would play straight up on Brutal but it is notoriously long and I have a life(allegedly), will edit when I eventually play it normally.
  • Gates of Hell: this took me quite a while to figure out, I had to play it for a couple of hours before I landed on a strategy that worked for me, but once I figured it out it was a breeze. I only got like half of the drop-pods though (which is why it's Yellow and not Green). Might be even harder if you're doing an achievements run.
The two Red missions are, of course, In Utter Darkness and All-In, I haven't beaten these yet, in fact I haven't ever beaten All-In on hard (although my last attempt was years ago, I might be a bit better nowadays...or worse).
Do you agree with my ratings? What would you change?

TLDR: Played WoL on Brutal, rated the missions based on difficulty. Green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, orange is difficult and red is very difficult. What do you think?
