 | The heart of the base, though the rails and conveyors extend much farther in this rail world. It's a largely unplanned, spaghettified mess but I've learned a lot during this attempt. I bounce off a lot of games for some reason, probably dopamine related. Even Minecraft feels "tedious" But this has been a lot of fun! One cool thing is I found (online) a way to have the energy network somewhat efficiently use the solar panels instead of using more steam power, simply by attaching a circuit from the water pumps to an accumulator and just shutting the water off when the accumulator is above 50% charge. It creates this really nice breathing effect that is visible in the accumulators and is more efficient than it would otherwise be. The full base, harder to see than I realized using the /screenshot command. Notice the poorly built, space devouring rail line and filled but unused main bus! Also found a "solar flower" blueprint from roughly 6 years ago, so old the string was used by a mod and was not compatible with the newer version of Factorio. I mostly remade it just by looking at the picture. From what I understand it's not the correct ratio of panels/accumulators, but I don't care. TLDR: Is a second cat possible if my cat has fought with another cat in the past?
Hello! I am a relatively new cat owner. My cat was a stray and I brought her into my home about a year and a half ago. She has acclimated very well to the indoor life.
I have 3 dogs and she gets along wonderfully with them. I really want a second cat, but I was wanting some feedback from others on if this is possible.
She is approximately 2-3 years old (estimated by the vet to be 1-2 when I first got her, and it's been about a year since)
Around May of 2024 a friend of mine needed to rehome her cat, and we decided to try her out at my house. Her cat also got along with dogs, but we were unsure about both mine and her cat because they were both solo cats.
I took introducing them very slowly. Had them both in carriers for the initial meeting. Kept the new cat confined to one room in the house. I would put their food on opposite side of a door and feed them so they could smell each other's scent without directl seeing. Eventually I put a baby gate in a door way and fed them on opposite sides of the gate so they could see each other.
However one day there was an instance where my cat ran into the room the new cat was in. She rolled in her litter box (I assume this is a territorial behavior) My cat seemed interested in the other cat and was meowing and purring, however the new cat hissed at her.
After she hissed at her, my cat began hissing as well. I took this as a bad sign and put more effort into keeping them separate and making the introduction slower. But several weeks later the new cat darted out of the room when I opened the door and the two cats got in a physical fight. I was able to break it up quickly by throwing a blanket on top and scooping up one cat, but got my arms pretty scratched in the process.
I ended up deciding this wasn't ideal, and returned the cat to my friend.
My question is, was my cats behavior too aggressive to even consider a second cat? My thought was adopting a young kitten and allowing the kitten to grow up with my cat (with a proper introduction of course) but I wanted some opinions on if that is even possible.
I love my cat very much, and if that means she has to be an only cat then that is okay. I wouldn't give her up at the expense of having two cats.

2025.01.19 16:30 Superstorm22 Training Radiographer a little dejected and seeking advice
So I’m 28M who’s just started the MSc Radiography course with the intent of doing a career change after being a labrat for 7 years. The field seems to fit what I want in a job.
Only thing is (and a big thing, I respect) is that all I see or hear is how the NHS is on its knees, that private work pays better and so on. I’m not saying that any of that is not true, but it just leaves me a little dejected at spending 2 more years of study and loans - which to be fair I’ll never pay back.
I guess in posting this I’m looking for reassurance, which probably means I still want to keep doing this, but what has kept you in the NHS? And what advice can you give for someone who’s looking to have a career in it, at least for a time?

 | Tl;Dr: I left my back sliding door open and there is a feral/stray cat inside and I don't know how to coax them back out. What should I do? I woke up this morning and there was a cat on one of my bathroom sinks. It startled me and I think startled it too. I had my hands full, so I went downstairs to set everything down. When I came back upstairs I couldn't find them. It took me a while to find them hidden in the pillows in a spare bedroom. I'm speaking softly to them and even put out fresh water, low sodium tuna. I even tried petting them, but they don't respond. I'm pretty sure they are scared, but I don't know what to do. I left my back sliding door open for a couple of hours, so I believe that's how they got in. What should I do?
