In January of last year, I read and practiced RTK (Remembering the Kanji) for the first time. I don’t know why, maybe I didn’t fully understand it, but my system was, using an ANKI deck, to first see the kanji and then say its meaning/concept recognizing the components and using the mnemonic story.
I believe that’s how it worked by default; in fact, I think the decks I encountered at that time were all like that. I went through all the kanji and, more or less, achieved good retention—not perfect, but acceptable. However, it was slow. When I saw a kanji, it often took me a lot of time to recall the keyword, and the more I learned, the harder it got.
This year, I’ve taken the opposite approach: I’m using a deck that first shows the concept, and from it, I draw the kanji. The increase in productivity I’ve experienced has been incredible—not only because I already had some recollection from the first attempt, which has helped me a lot, even though I hadn’t reviewed in almost nine months—but above all, because I’ve noticed a massive speed increase. Seeing the concept and being able to recall the kanji, and vice versa, has become much faster. After writing out the long kanji tables in my review sessions, I test the reverse order, going kanji by kanji and quickly saying the concept, and it’s almost instantaneous for practically all of them.
That said, I still have some issues, mainly with kanji that share the same meaning, have very abstract or vague keywords, or that I don’t use often. But this might only account for about 1% or 2% of the kanji.
If you’re following the first method, try the second one—I find it much more productive.
PD: I’m opening this thread because I recall someone mentioning a few days ago that RTK was meant to be used this way, but I don’t remember it like that. In my first approach, all the decks I encountered were in the first style described.
That said, I end up exhausted, my eyes tired, and my hand sore. But it's worth it.
I don’t even try when it comes to composition and spacing.

2025.01.20 21:00 CrispyJayZuse PS5 controller is constantly inputting up on the D-pad
So I've got this controller and it is constantly inputting up on the D-pad I've taken it apart and cleaned all the contacts on the motherboard that relate to the D-pad, X, Square, Triangle and Circle, I've taken off the rubber membrane and made sure it is clean. I've also taken out the buttons and given them a wipe off and removed any gunk that was around the buttons, I did that on both sides just while I was there (might aswell right) but even after all of that I'm still getting the phantom input of up on the D-pad. I'm just a bit lost on what to do, I'm broke and can't really afford to get another controller (it's my second one since getting the console and I treat my controllers really well) just looking for any possible fixes that anyone might know of, I've tried resetting my controller and updating it too (no updates avaliable as it was on the latest software) Any help would be appreciated, troubleshooting for what component could have possibly failed

My partner and I are moving in together and thought the best way to pay our mortgage and bills etc was a joint account.
We both bank with Lloyds so decided to go with them, we used their app and went through the process of it all and got the Club Lloyds joint account together.
My new debit card arrived today and it only has my name on it not a joint name? When I go on the app and look under card details or which ever section shows the name, it only says my name?
My partner can see when I’ve put money in the account so why does the account and card not have our joint names on it? Is this normal or have we done something wrong?

2025.01.20 21:00 Puzzled_End1038 a customer accusing me of doing something illegal instead of nicely pointing out his concern
a customer today at work bought a barbecue roll (i don’t remember the exact name but it was roll) and the barcode was not working so i had to go back to deli to get a new one but mistakenly the coworker gave me a code of something similar which costs .50 cents more.
i scanned it and the customer literally said, “you know it’s literally illegal of you to charge me more than what i am buying” in a very aggressive hasty tone.
i looked at the screen, cross checked and went back immediately to get it changed again, there was a technical issue with the barcode of that specific product so it took 2-3 minutes more to get it fixed.
even the manager got involved briefly, he apologised to the customer.
i finally did the transaction and the guy goes “thank you so much”.
i literally looked at him with a blank stare which i never do. i ALWAYS say “thanks have a good day!” with a big smile to every customer after every transaction that i’ve been complimented for my smile by one of them.
the whole point of this post is please be mindful of your words as a customer, i know it’s annoying to see something unfair but we, the service industry workers, are also humans.
he could’ve easily said, “Hi i think you scanned the wrong code, i got X prepared not Y.”
