Getting tired of all the doom and black pill posts on this sub. Let's start injecting some hopium into this community. My current hopium that I am huffing on is Trump and his record of being unable to actually govern effectively. I also have some more hopium for infighting within the Republican party that drags out long enough to get us into the midterms which is hopefully a Democrat sweep. If we get to 2026 and the Dems flip both chambers, then Trump will essentially be sitting on his hands until the 2028 election.

2025.01.21 12:19 bethestars my best friend is always doing weird power plays against me
I am 27f, one of my closest friends is 25f, and I often feel like she is trying to get the upper hand on me.
Today we hung out, got food, went to a park, and the wind was blowing awfully cold. We had some blankets to hang out on the grass but I was feeling shivery almost the whole time we were there. I wasn’t feeling super talkative today so we were both just having phone time together since we had chatted during lunch. My phone was dying after about an hour and I asked if she was ready to go.
She sort of insinuated I didn’t want to hang out with her anymore. I said of course I want to hang out but don’t you want to beat traffic to get home? We were about 10 minutes from my place but her drive home would take anywhere from 30-50 minutes if not longer if she left during rush hour. She seemed kind of annoyed that I was suggesting she beat traffic and I suggested we go to Target or somewhere indoors to continue the hangout but avoid the wind. Then she said, “no actually i do need to beat traffic” and at that point I got annoyed because why even guilt trip me for trying to be conscious of her drive home and then not actually want to continue hanging out after making me feel guilty for wanting to go home?
She frequently does this where I suggest something sensible and she contradicts me just to have the upper hand or feel in control..? I can’t really explain it but it annoys me to no end.
Our friendship has been rocky for the last 3 months.
We went on vacation together with my partner (I’m a lesbian) in November so it was sort of like a girls trip. I feel like me and partner were very considerate to her throughout the trip especially when she got a stomach bug in the middle of the trip (I bought groceries for her, cooked for her, made sure she was ok, didnt force her to do trip activities if she didnt feel up to it) and then when I got sick toward the end of the trip she still wanted to force me to go out and when I didnt budge she acted like it was ok…but then upon returning from our trip I asked her what her birthday plans were and she ignored me and then told me she needed space because we didn’t celebrate her birthday on the trip even though it was literally a week after we returned from our trip. She later explained that she felt like an afterthought and that her mental health hadn’t been great during the trip/the trip wasn’t what she expected it to be and she had made a mistake by taking out her frustration on us for it. I explained that I didn’t realize how badly she wanted to celebrate her birthday while we were out there and that I also wasnt the best planner of things ahead of time. We’ve been friends for 5 or 6 years now and I feel like I don’t expect her to plan my birthday for me and I don’t understand why she expected me to have a whole thing lined up for her birthday especially when we were in a new city neither of us had been to before and had an itinerary that she hadnt mentioned anything about a birthday celebration in until our last day there.
We already sort of worked through the trip drama but I honestly still feel tension that wasn’t there before the trip.
Even during the trip she was saying i’m really hard on the people around me and my expectations are too high. I know I have high standards for my friends but I feel like I want them to be good, moral people and do the best they can to have a fulfilling life. I don’t ask that they do very much for me, just that they not be dumb/inconsiderate. I have had other friends occasionally comment that I can be a little neurotic but mostly in a jokey way… not in a this is a huge character flaw of yours type of way (as this close friend does).
Another example is I invited her to a famous and expensive theme park because my other best friend is able to get us in for free and I just asked that she maybe buy me a few snacks/food in return. She insinuated she was too poor to do all of that and maybe bought me one snack that day. We work in the same field and she has a much bigger client base/stronger range of work and I know she takes home at least the same if not more than me on average. Mind you when I am able to go to this theme park because of my friend who gets me in I try to buy her treats and food wherever I can to express my gratitude. I know I am technically not paying for my friend’s entrance fee, but she wouldn’t have the opportunity to even go to this park for free if it weren’t for me.
These last two times we have hung out, she has described me in ways that make me really wonder about her perception of me being kind of disconnected from who I am.
- When I was talking about feeling kind of grandma-y, loserish around my co-workers, she said: “No I don’t believe that, they wouldn’t see you that way… to me you’re like Miss Popular, social butterfly, friends with everyone”. Which I appreciated the sentiment and while many people I’ve met do engage with my work online, I am really pretty reserved and mostly do well with one on one conversations. I very rarely feel comfortable in a group setting and I would say I have her and my other closer friend as well as my partner that I feel close to and everyone else is more of an acquaintance or I feel unsure of the relationship. Well even with her I feel sometimes like she doesn’t want to admit that she sees me in a competitive way.
- During lunch today, she was saying I could be scary sometimes, or that she was scared of me? I tried to ask her what she meant by that and she deflected saying well Im not scared of you right now, but sometimes you can be scary. Maybe I don’t realize I’m intimidating but I really don’t feel like I am. Most of the times I feel goofy, silly, insecure, I try hard to be reassuring to myself and others and to be considerate if the situation calls for it.

Hi, I have a strange issue when using certain desktop apps on my Legion 5, mainly impacting Microsoft Teams and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Basically, the app interfaces alternate between looking fine but then looking really cartoonified (sorry can't think of a better word to describe it). I have attached a picture that probably better explains it.
I do use the laptop mainly for gaming and do have some graphic mods installed, although the problem exists when those games aren't running.
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can stop this from happening?

So, I just finished 'The Worst Birthday' episodes (ep. 589-590). Loved them, but there's just this one thing that's irked me for a while, and that's how Ran's sometimes actually guilty (at least, partially) of many of her parents' arguments and fights just because of her trying to force them to be together. I understand that, in real life, some children from divorced parents (especially teens) want them to stay together, but why didn't Ran wait for Kogoro to give Erin her present when he felt ready instead of rushing everything, or at least told him of her plans before actually putting them into action? I get it's for plot convenience and comedic reasons, but ngl it's a bit irritating to me because it's not the first time they use this trope in one of the episodes. I really hope this changes at some point (knowing Aoyama, probably not. Also, no spoilers please).

2025.01.21 12:19 Thickktwinkk Why wont recruiters call me if im overseas on vacation and using an international phone number?
I got through to two phone interviews but when I let them know my phone number they both replied saying but do you reside in the UK? I said yes but I’m on vacation right now.
One said ok let’s discuss when you’re back in the uk. The other didn’t reply yet. It actually happened another time too for a role I spent ages working and reaching for the interview. When she found out my number was international she said the role has been filled this was ten mins after the designated interview was supposed to take place. At the time I thought “how rude” but maybe they are using their personal phones to call and they don’t want to spend money on an international call??
Is it expensive for them to call an overseas number? I would have thought such big companies it would be easy to call an overseas number by using a company phone or software on laptop?
Do companies not like the fact Im traveling does it make me look like I wont commit??
