Jelentkeztem egy multihoz (Budapest),ahol múlt héten voltam személyes interjún. Lényegében csak rólam és a jelenlegi munkámról volt szó, nem beszéltek bérről, juttatásokról sem. Ebből azt szűrtem le, hogy több körös lehet az interjú, de erről sem volt szó. Azt mondták, hogy vissza fognak jelezni pár napon belül. Egyébként kérdezgettem, hogy érezzék az érdeklődésemet, de azt mondták hogy pl. bérről jelenleg még nem beszélhetnek. Mennyi időn belül szoktak visszajelezni, behívni még egy körre?

I’m considering applying to the University of Maryland as an international student. I have an excellent IELTS score and strong tech-related skills, especially in computer science (the field I’m planning to major in). However, my grades in non-computer-related subjects aren’t very impressive, and I’m worried this might impact my application.
Do you think my strengths and passion for computer science could still make my application competitive?
For context, I’m from Iran, where the education system heavily emphasizes memorization rather than creativity or practical skills. For example, we’re often required to memorize intricate details, like ancient Persian literature or historical facts, for exams. This approach can be particularly challenging for someone like me, who thrives in tech and problem-solving rather than rote learning.
The system evaluates everyone with the same type of test and ties their future to it, regardless of their unique talents. It’s like asking a fish, a monkey, and a dog to climb a tree and judging them all by the same standard. Because of this, my grades in non-tech subjects don’t truly reflect my abilities or potential in computer science.

My 2 previous workplaces were large FinTech Enterprises and I noticed 1 thing that I don't really understand. Senior engineers were cared to write specs some implementation to it, close KPI and we're done. When the service/feature/subsytem/etc goes to production I noticed some (pretty complex and subtle) bugs that usually went to middle engineers. The things is it was not appreciated and was like Meh.
For example some mid level engineer from a separate team on our department went down to a Linux Kernel level to investigate performance spike in code written by a Senior engineer. I was very impressed by the approach, but no one else seemed to care.
Is such KPI-chasing practice become common in the industry?
