2025.01.22 00:11 kinoseii Advice on how to adjust to the new normal?
Hi all. I wanted to get some insight on how you adjusted back to daily functioning with a baby - chores, going out and running errands, being able to make dinner, etc. I have quite the velcro baby and it’s becoming incredibly taxing. He’s 5 months next week and is such a little peach when he’s in a good mood - when he’s in a bad mood he’s screaming and throwing himself back (I didn’t realize tantrums started this early????) and scream cries so loudly I can hear it hurting his throat.
I love my baby so much but I basically cannot be a person anymore. I don’t get the chance to do much at all past maybe one single chore in a 15 minute span that he’s ok with independently playing - until he decides he’s done and wants to be held. He does NOT nap by himself ever, I might be able to get him put down for a solid hour once in a blue moon. I mostly let him contact nap bc he just won’t sleep otherwise. He’s started throwing tantrums when he’s overtired so it’s even more important now than it was before, hindering me from being productive more.
I’m definitely suffering from ppd and have an appointment coming up to get my medicine adjusted.. but I know meds won’t make me perfect.I’m miserable and I don’t know how to cope anymore. My worst days are days where I need to put him down in his crib and step away, sometimes self harming on the worst of the worst days. Yet my best days are the happiest and most positive ever.. it’s so unpredictable and im mentally exhausted. My husband is mentally exhausted. I think my mental health and the baby’s constant clingyness, along with the state of my house, is really starting to take a toll on my husband. I get it bc it’s been taking a toll on me since like 4 weeks in.
My boys both deserve a mentally healthy mom and wife. I feel so worthless knowing I’m not doing well. What helped you cope? I don’t really have family that can watch him more often than a day on the weekend here and there, so any type of advice so that I can make my life and my house feel a little more normal would be really appreciated.
