2025.01.22 06:45 T33FMEISTER Pay negotiations help! Found same role 50% more. Boss found my application/CV. Need help.
I’ve got pay negotiations this morning. I’m a Commercial Finance Manager, with 6 years at the company but not at market value.
Currently on £52k (£60k with bonus), but I’ve seen a similar role nearby offering £70k + bonus. The only catch is the competitor requires qualifications, but I’m confident I’d be a strong candidate. My current employer is paying for my qualifications, and I’ve completed the first year.
I’m based in the Midlands, and my boss, the Finance FD, and the MD know I’m applying elsewhere. I’m not nervous, as I feel the power’s in my hands.
What should I ask for or accept in negotiations? Any tips (other than loads of coffee)?

My life right now seems like everyone is Michelangelo carving the statue of David out of marble. Perfectly sculpted in every way, with every tap out of the marble from chisel adds a new depth of beauty. because Michelangelo was given the right tools and was taught to use those tools when he had them. And society looks at him with courage, amazement and appreciation. Whereas I feel like Van Gogh, who only sold one painting while he was alive, who was seen as crazy and not worth the time of day a day of his life until after he died. Although his paintings are absolutely stunning, beautiful, and appreciated, he is not alive now to be able to see that. He is not alive to see that people are incredibly inspired by his artwork, that very thing that could have kept him alive but instead because he was neglected and because he was forgotten about he couldn't take the loneliness and ended his pain. I was never given the right tools, I was given beach toys when I needed excavators and bulldozers to move and carry the weight of my trauma. now that I'm an adult with kids, those beach toys of my childhood when I needed excavators have been passed down to my kids. I'm forced to learn how to drive these excavators and bulldozers so that my gravel and Boulder pit of trauma can be turned into a beach for my kids can use their beach toys instead of excavators

Salut tout le monde,
Je suis étudiant en BTS, et j’aimerais avoir vos avis sur une situation qui me dérange un peu. Dans ma classe, nos profs ont décidé qu’on devait tous déposer nos téléphones dans une boîte au début de chaque cours. Apparemment, c’est à cause de quelques élèves qui utilisent leur téléphone pendant les cours.
Le problème, c’est que cette règle s’applique à tout le monde, même à ceux d’entre nous qui respectent le règlement et n’utilisent pas leur téléphone en cours. D’ailleurs, voici ce que dit notre règlement intérieur à ce sujet :
Téléphones portables et appareils connectés En lisant ça, il est clair que le téléphone doit rester dans le sac, en mode silencieux, et qu’il ne doit pas être utilisé sans l’autorisation du prof. Je trouve donc que la règle actuelle de tout déposer dans une boîte va un peu plus loin que ce qui est écrit dans le règlement, surtout pour ceux qui ne causent pas de problème, il est vrai que je jette un coup d’œil sur mon téléphone tres brièvement mais sans déranger qui que ce soit, sans même que le prof le remarque, donc à leurs yeux je ne l’utilise pas mais ils me forcent quand même à respecter cette nouvelle “règle”.
Je dois aussi préciser que nous sommes tous sur nos ordinateurs portable et qu’il me faut mon téléphone pour faire une partage de co car le wifi du campus est de une vraiment merdique et de deux pleins de site web sont bloqué dessus.
Je comprends que ça peut être distrayant pour les profs et les élèves, mais est-ce vraiment la meilleure solution ? Est-ce normal de pénaliser tout le monde pour une minorité ? On est en BTS, donc adultes, et on devrait être capables de gérer ça individuellement, non ?
Qu’en pensez-vous ? Est-ce que ça se fait aussi dans vos classes ? Vous trouvez ça légitime ou un peu abusé ?

Been a really strange couple of days. So a friend of mine was just arrested for a crime related to illegal pornography. We all know what that means.
He claims it’s something he watched when he was 18, which would be 5-6 years ago.
I understand these investigations can take awhile, but is that really plausible? I have a hard time believing the feds would waste their time with what an 18 year old kid did 5 years ago. But he’s my friend.
Does anyone have any experience with this realm of law? I have heard conflicting reports on whether or not there is a statute of limitations for this crime, and from what I’ve seen online, there is not. That lends me more inclined to believe that this activity has not continued over the past couple years.

Having a conversation with a coworker I remembered this old series of videos from like 2008(?)ish. The videos were a series of drawing animations and there was about a dozen of them. I remember the first one started somewhere along the lines of in the middle of Idaho and they were pretty violent in nature where the main character gets killed a few times but comes back more and more less human. I know this incredibly vague and not much to go off of but does anyone know or remember these videos?
