2025.01.22 15:54 Wrong_Definition_465 Am I doing my gender and ethnicity a disservice by using a pseudonym?

I have a feminine first name and a conspicuously ethnic surname that would seriously hurt my chances of gaining a wider audience. I want to use my initials so that I’m gender-neutral and choose a more WASP-sounding last name, but I’m conflicted about doing this because I think that would just be upholding the stupid racial hierarchy in the U.S.
I’m still going to use my initials for privacy reasons, not just because I’m a woman, but I’m not so sure if I want to use a different last name or not.
On the one hand, people will probably discriminate against my writings because of my last name and assume I’m a bad writer because of it, but on the other hand, I don’t want to uphold the status quo by conforming to their popular ideas of whiteness.
I don’t discriminate against books because of the author’s ethnicity, but I’m sure there are plenty of people who do.

2025.01.22 15:54 Username112234424 Which videos affected you the most?

Just discovered this channel from Tiktok and I’ve been on a binge ever since. I really love how the stories are told and structured! Anyway, as horrifying as the stories are, I found that the most distressing videos are when the kindest, most genuine people meet the lowest of the low. I’m referring to the Harper’s Law and Daniel Halseth. As someone who just discovered the channel, I’d love to hear from you guys so i can check out the videos I haven’t seen yet.

2025.01.22 15:54 lflfilipe Finnish Ancestry?

Hi all,
I was gifted a 23andMe kit for Christmas, and expected pretty straightforward results. It came back (expectedly) 99.8% Portuguese, but 0.2% Finnish, specifically highlighting one person likely born between 1710 and 1800, as being Finnish. Anyway, obviously a tiny part of my genealogy, but I am an absolutely fascinated with who this person might have been and what their story is (with all the caveats about the limitations of the testing and results.) Was it a woman who came to Portugal and gave birth and stayed? A man passing through and stayed? Or left? Anyway, the fact that it is likely a single person, makes me even more interested in discovering what I can about them.
Any suggestions on where to start? Are there publicly accessible genealogy records? Prior to this my knowledge of Finland was centred on your illustrious hockey teams and players!
Thanks!

2025.01.22 15:54 swordviper121 Is there anything similar to the empowering black voices movement but for south asian people?

Hi all, just had a question about this. I love the idea of empowering minority voices, and I wanted to know if there was a movement similar to this but for Indian people. I know there is something that's for AAPI, but I'm feeling that it primarily targets a lot of east asians. I feel like recently the hate/racism for south asians has been significantly rising (though it has already been rising a lot in the past) and it kinda makes me feel a little alone tbh. I want to see if I can find something that can help me promote voices like ours to the mainstream.
Thanks!

2025.01.22 15:54 CourtSport3000 My oven glass door shattered ? Replacement ?

Hi so yeah we were just relaxing in the living room I’m on my island on the computer and it sounded like someone hit a glass door with a baseball bat ! Was not on or anything. We researched and apparently this is common? But I’ve been in my house for 6 years so no warranty anymore.
Does ANYONE know where I can purchase a replacement glass ? The panels are fine. I read the glass shattering is lowkey a safety feature which is why the outer panels didn’t break.
Husband cleaned up all the glass and took the door off. Pictures for reference. Thank you!🙏

2025.01.22 15:54 Soft_dom_UK Is anyone else reluctant to post due to “terminology” police?

I (52m) am fascinated by relationship dynamics/kinks etc. I am really eager to learn more about poly lifestyles, particularly poly fidelity.
There seems to be little or no information about a dynamic I feel drawn to but find that when I post im just generally bombarded by comments slating my wrong use of terminology. I’ve never been particularly interested in labels or pigeonholes, everyone is wonderfully different and equally valid. I understand that some feel more of a sense of belonging if they can easily and neatly label themselves but personally I’m eager for advise and others experiences rather than learning the poly thesaurus.
I’m not aiming this post at this sub specifically, it’s everywhere. I find it makes me really reluctant to post.

2025.01.22 15:54 BeMo_Experts MMI Interview Prep

If the thought of MMI interview prep sends your stress levels soaring, you’re not alone. The Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) is infamous for its high-pressure format. It’s fast-paced, unpredictable, and designed to test how you think, not just what you know.
If you have spent even 10 minutes looking into how to ace your MMI, you’ve already seen the standard advice: practice ethical scenarios, form a study group, and stay current on healthcare news. All useful tips—but there’s more you need to know.
If you’re looking for 8 actionable strategies to elevate your MMI interview prep—complete with specific examples and techniques that deliver results—you’ve come to the right place.
Ready to start preparing for your MMI interviews? Find out how our MMI prep programs can help!

  1. Treat Ethical Scenarios Like Problem-Solving Puzzles
One of the first things you’ll notice during MMI interview prep is how often ethical dilemma stations come up—they’re easily one of the most common and challenging types to tackle. You’ll face tough questions like, “How would you allocate limited resources in a hospital?” or “What would you do if a patient refused life-saving treatment?”
To go beyond the generic “weigh the pros and cons” approach, try this framework:
· Acknowledge the dilemma: Start by summarizing the conflict clearly. “This scenario involves balancing patient autonomy with the duty to save lives.”
· Identify the stakeholders: Break down who’s affected—patients, families, healthcare workers, the broader system. For example: “The patient’s wishes need to be respected, but I also need to consider the impact on the care team and other patients in need.”
· Propose a step-by-step action plan: Be as specific as possible. Instead of saying, “I’d consult with the patient,” say, “I would first ask the patient to share their concerns about the treatment, then explain the potential consequences of refusing it, and finally explore alternatives that align with their values.”
Pro Tip: Read case studies from real-world medical ethics journals like AMA’s Journal of Ethics. These offer nuanced perspectives you can adapt to MMI scenarios.
2. Role-Playing? Use the Actor’s Body Language as a Cue The role-playing stations can feel intimidating because they require quick thinking and emotional intelligence. Here’s a trick: focus on nonverbal cues from the actor.
Imagine this scenario: A patient is visibly upset because they’re struggling to manage a chronic condition. The actor might avoid eye contact or fold their arms. Instead of jumping into advice-giving mode, try:
· Mirroring their tone: Speak softly and calmly to match their emotional state.
· Asking empathetic, open-ended questions: “I can see this is really frustrating for you. Can you tell me more about what’s been the hardest part?”
· Checking in: “Does it feel like we’re on the same page about next steps?”
Practicing this with a friend or mentor (who deliberately exaggerates body language) can train you to pick up on subtle emotional cues.
3. Use Timed Writing Drills to Organize Your Thoughts The time crunch in MMIs often leads to panicked, rambling answers. To combat this, practice timed writing drills for common MMI scenarios. This is a favorite MMI interview prep strategy because it can yield great results.
Here’s how you do it:
· Pick a question, set a timer for 2 minutes and write out the key points you’d include in your response.
· Set a second timer for 5 minutes and verbalize your answer while sticking to those key points.
· Review your response. Did you cover all angles? Were there gaps in logic or clarity?
Practicing like this helps you organize your thoughts quickly, making your answers clear and impactful. This technique builds composure and keeps you focused on key points by mimicking the high-pressure MMI environment.
4. Build a “Response Toolbox” for Curveball Scenarios During your MMI interview prep, you will quickly learn that while some MMI prompts are predictable, others are designed to really throw you off.
To prepare, create a Response Toolbox to help you confidently tackle these unexpected scenarios. This toolbox equips you with adaptable strategies for any prompt, so you’re never left scrambling for an answer. By organizing your thoughts into familiar categories and drawing from prepared examples, you can focus on addressing any question thoughtfully and confidently.
Here’s how to start your Response Toolbox:
5. Turn Interview Prep into a Debate Game Use this strategy to make MMI interview prep effective and fun: Grab a friend or family member and assign opposing sides of a topic to debate.
For example, you could ask, “Should vaccinations be mandatory?” Take the side arguing in favor of mandates while the other person argues for personal choice. Set a timer for two minutes per side to mimic the time constraints of the MMI, and after both sides have presented their case, switch roles and repeat.
This exercise helps you practice articulating well-reasoned arguments under pressure and trains you to see issues from multiple perspectives, which is an essential skill for MMI success.
6. Simulate the Interview Day Environment The MMI isn’t just about what you say—it’s about how you carry yourself under pressure. To mimic the high-stakes environment:
· Dress in interview attire, even for practice sessions.
· Use a formal setting (e.g., a quiet room with minimal distractions).
· Practice with strangers, if possible. You’ll get more authentic feedback from someone who doesn’t already know your quirks.
· Simulate the rotation aspect of the MMI by setting up “stations” in different rooms. Move between them quickly to replicate the real experience.
7. Learn to Think Aloud Effectively To ace the MMI, you need to be able to clearly show your thought process. For example, if you’re asked how to handle a resource allocation dilemma, don’t just say, “I’d prioritize the patient most likely to recover.” Explain why: “I’d prioritize the patient most likely to recover because it allows us to maximize the number of lives saved. However, I’d also consider other factors, such as their quality of life post-treatment and whether alternative resources are available for the other patients.”
Practice this by narrating your thought process for everyday decisions (e.g., choosing a restaurant or solving a puzzle). This builds the habit of articulating your reasoning clearly. Just don’t do it out loud while debating cereal brands in the grocery store aisle—unless you’re cool with becoming someone’s story about “the quirky person they saw at the store.”
8. Share Your Experiences Sparingly One overlooked aspect of MMI interview prep is knowing when and how to include personal experiences in your answers. Warning: the MMI isn’t the time for storytelling unless your example is directly relevant. A well-chosen anecdote can strengthen your response, but a loosely connected one might make you seem unfocused or unprepared.
To get comfortable incorporating personal experiences, practice pairing your stories with common MMI prompts. Take a list of scenarios and brainstorm 1 or 2 relevant anecdotes for each, focusing on those that highlight key skills like problem-solving or empathy.
Before sharing, ask yourself: Does this clearly connect to the scenario? If the answer is no, focus on addressing the prompt directly. Personal stories should add value to your response, not distract from it. Keep them brief, relevant, and impactful.
At the end of the day, learning how to prepare for the MMI is about learning the skills you need to handle anything thrown your way. Tackle your MMI prep with determination, commit to the process, and be ready to prove to admissions committees that you’re exactly what they’re looking for.
Book a FREE strategy call for MMI prep and get ready to ace your medical school interviews!

2025.01.22 15:54 Expensive-Gene9559 Android Auto Head Unit inop at startup in low temps

Hello. Husband installed an Android Head unit in a 2010 Corolla for our daughter. Install went well and unit seemed to be operating just fine. However she just recently started to consistently drive the car in the morning when the temps outside are 20-35 degrees and have noticed every time that the unit does not power on until about 10 minutes into the trip- it is just a black screen. Eventually the little Android dude appears on the screen and the unit powers up and works but time and date must be reset. Has anyone dealt with this?

2025.01.22 15:54 Spirited-View6529 Better animation and the addition of GT characters are the only thing that Sparking zero added to the table...

I still like this game tbh, was very in hype like everyone else when the game came out, but after some time has passed, i can't stop thinking that this game has been more of a "money grab" move rather then a passionate work from the man in charge of the development of the game or the developers themselves.
The base version of this game is already pricy, and back when we all bought it maps offline basically didn't exist, now we are just stuck with poor choices of maps, compared to tenkaichi.
Maps are one missing thing, but not the only one, we don't have tournaments, something that older fans of budokai on ps2 i think will agree with me that it is giant missed shot, we are missing 2 vs 2, which existed only in tag team, a game that existed only for PSP, and would have been great to have.
Another thing that isn't in this game is modalities like Survival, Battle 100, and customization with items.
Back in the day when you finished the storyline, the game didnt ended there, you had more to have fun alone and with your friends.
Now when you end the storyline (and i include what if's too in that, cause tag team back in the dayhad what if's too outside of his extra-modalities) you either play ranked until you get bored, or just stop there...
Looking at the price of the game, looking at seasonal passes (a mechanic that is getting a bit annoying for how common it has become in modern gaming), looking at the fact that DLC's have a price on their own (wich is not a bad thing, it's just that DLC's the only thing that can spark you a bit to re-open the game for half an hour, and the fact that you have to still pay to feel a desire to play a game is kinda absurd), and then taking in consideration all the previous things i said that are missing in the game, it kinda makes me feel like you bit the dust, it doesn't look like whoever decided that the game had to be like this took his time to analize previous games of dragonball and had a call inside himself to take the best mechanics of each one of them and create the best version of a dragonball game we ever had.
Sparkink zero is a good game, but that's about it, i don't know in the future, hopefully someone will redeeme this game, but till now it didn't leave up to be the best dragonball game we have ever had, it became just a modern version of a dragonball game.
Sure graphics are better, but that is kind of a given since we are in a modern era, back in the day evryone was happy about graphics too, GT characters are the only happy addition to my eyes.

2025.01.22 15:54 HotelPuzzleheaded654 Can I claim compensation for a delayed flight I didn’t take?

I can’t really find anything on Google, basically I was supposed to fly last Tuesday for a week away working, but I ended up not needing to and I never cancelled the flight because I couldn’t get the money back anyway because it was too late under the airline’s policy.
Because I hadn’t cancelled I was getting messages through from the airline about my flight and turns out the journey back was delayed by 15 hours so, under usual circumstances, that would be eligible for compensation, but I wasn’t impacted because I didn’t fly so what do you think my options are?

2025.01.22 15:54 Jonjtyu Pull up bar recommendations

Stand alone pull up ba power tower
Hey all,
I'm looking to add a stand alone pull up bar or power tower to my home gym set up. I'm mainly a marathon runner but have been adding strength into my routine lately. Id rather get something like this instead of a power rack or half rack for space reasons and budget. I mainly do dumbbell work and running and would like to add pull ups and dead hangs in particular to my routine. Id say I'd also like to add weighted pull ups eventually but that would be a future goal.
Any one have any experience with any of these or any other recommendations? I've searched the sub but main recommendations or answers were from a few years ago. Much appreciated and any other advice you have for getting started would be great!
Thanks!
