At work I work on some parts that have a 20mm diameter, ~100mm long h7 tolerance. Hitting the dimension on one end isn't a problem, but with the surface ranging from right next to the chuck to halfway to the tailstock, and about 0.5mm minimum diameter reduction for somewhat controlable chips, the difference in deflection results in~30 microns (over a thou) of taper, which is more than the tolerance.
My current approach is doing a bunch of spring passes, but that results in long stringy and arguably dangerous chips.
I could offset the tailstock to compensate but I really don't wanna have to do that all the time.
Is there a better way?

2025.01.22 19:02 HanBandanaa Agony calf pain (mainly right leg but it’s in both) advice
Hi I’m on week 3. From week 1 day 1 I’ve had agonising calf pains, but I pushed through. Half way through week 2 it was fine for the first 3 60 sec runs then after I kept pushing and had to stop as I physically couldn’t walk anymore. I had to stand in place for a bit. I took a few days off, did better stretches. (Tested before my next run and no tightness) and week 3 run 1 I could hardly move, 2 90 secs in I was beat I was almost in tears from the calf painZ
I am Currently taking 2 days off but I wonder if I should take more, and any ideas why it’s so painful?

2025.01.22 19:02 Sea_Marzipan_3338 BPT - Exam centres in the south
So I am based about 45 mins from Brighton. My nearest exam centre is Croydon and it has been great for all my other professional level exams.
I’ve just started BPT tuition (hoping to sit March 25) and have found out about the whole open book text thing. The exam centre in Croydon is good, but desk space is on the small side. I’m worried that if I sit BPT in Croydon, I’m going to be flapping and stressing myself out - having to move the mouse and keyboard out the way each time I want to use my open book text.
Has anyone sat an exam at an exam centre in the south of the UK and found that desk space is good? If yes, please advise where :) I’m happy to travel. Will probably look to stay overnight nearby the exam centre if it’s more than a 2hr drive away.
Alternatively, please let me know if I am unnecessarily stressing and it’s really not that big of a deal. I’m one of life’s worriers and sometimes just need to hear that I am panicking over nothing.

I'm looking to get an xbloom and really like how they have the profiles. It makes it easier but I also like the option to put in my own settings.
Since there are people that are much more experienced and better than me at dialing in profiles for beans, I'm looking to see if there are spreadsheets or combined data out there.
If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it!

2025.01.22 19:02 anxiousempire Scheduled PTO in Advance for a Doctor's appointment that was cancelled last minute
I scheduled PTO months in advance for my first mammogram. I don't turn 40 until March but my OBGYN clinic said that's no problem. Today I left work early and was driving to my doctor's appointment and saw I had a missed call so I called them back using the car Bluetooth.
Some lady answers the phone and asks for my demographics to look my chart up and then asks why I'm calling. I said I'm calling to confirm my appointment for 1pm. She does confirm my appointment and asks me if I received any calls from them. (So passive aggressive!) So I responded, I'm calling to confirm my appointment is my appointment confirmed for 1pm today. So she puts me on hold for five to ten minutes and comes back on the phone to say, "you know your insurance won't cover your mammogram until you turn 40." Again, she didn't confirm my appointment or say it was cancelled, and the messages she left, were very generic. I assumed at this point it was cancelled and they were being very political about it. So I hung up and called back in. At this point, I'm majorly pissed.
When I called back I got someone else on the phone and I stated that I would like to make a formal complaint about patient scheduling and the woman I had spoken with on the phone prior. She took down my information. I told her that my one question before even scheduling the mammogram was if I was even allowed to do so. The time I asked at my OB appointment, they were like, "sure, it's no problem. Your insurance will cover it." The second person was really nice and understanding. I told the first lady that I would be finding somewhere else to get the mammogram and find a different OBGYN.
(I like my OBGYN but she has had to cancel two appointments that were scheduled in advance due to deliveries and their office is so small, they didn't have anyone else to cover for the appointment. It's a separate issue but one I feel needs vented. I think I'm going to go for a male OBGYN just because I assume that they'd be more available based on the fact that a lot of women feel uncomfortable having a male gynecologist for... Obvious reasons...)
I get home and I'm in some kind of a funky stew and I call my insurance, which is Aetna, and asked them to look up providers for me that are close to me. I ask about mammograms and she says that mammograms are preventative exams are free and have no age limit. I backtracked. "Can you repeat that?" So she repeats that providing information about tier 1 and tier 2 coverage and we disconnected.
I was calling around a bit ago looking for providers within a different healthcare system and got nowhere. People are either out to lunch or not wanting to show up for work because of the cold weather today. I talked to a patient scheduler at a hospital and she created a chart for me and provided a number for a gynecologist practice within that health system. That's as far as I got today. Before I got off the phone with her, she tells me that Aetna is the only health insurance that she knows of that has the no age limit on mammograms.
An idea popped in my head that the people at the mammogram facility were uneducated and needed to be educated, so I called them back and left a message to let them know.
I just can't believe the Idiocracy these days. I'm so done with today. Is it Friday yet?

2025.01.22 19:02 Sparta12456 trans Issues and religious issues
So I want to enjoy JP for a few reasons. First, he encourages taking responsibility for your own actions. Second, he encourages free speech.
However, trans issues are a hang-up for me. While I personally have not heard JP talk about trans issues, I have seen many people in this sub refer negatively to people who want to be a different gender than what they were born with. I do not see it as corruption in society to let trans people do what makes them less suicidal. These people reference Truth as though it were a fact and not as though it was something defined by the human race over time. Simultaneously, religion is an issue, many of his followers are religious and while I can follow the points that I agree with, I worry about being a hypocrite as I do not think Christianity is the best religion to follow. JP does not seem openly religious but seems to follow the bible more than other docterines. What are your thoughts?
