The floor seems to be made of some type of cheap wood that the previous owner (for an inexplicable reason) painted this strange, desaturated brown color (including the trim and doors!). I absolutely hate the color and how it looks. I do have some rugs over it, but I would like to do something about the floor itself. What are my options for improving this without spending a ton of money? I do not think the wood is worth stripping and finishing, and it is not laid super evenly, with fairly wide gaps between some of the planks. Not to mention I don't have the patience or budget for this. Would something like peel and stick flooring work? Vinyl sheets? Painting? Is interlocking vinyl planks an option when the surface isn't super flat/even? Hi everyone, 🙂
My partner and I are planning a trip to Japan in September for around +- 15 days, and we’d love your advice on our tentative itinerary! We’re planning to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, and Okinawa, and we’re open to any recommendations regarding neighborhoods, activities, and accommodations. Here’s our rough plan:
Tokyo:
Spend 5 days exploring the city. Stay in a hotel with a great view of the city (recommendations for areas and hotels welcome!!) (Ginza, Omotesando, Shibuya, Shinjuku or Akasaka? Im not too sure..) We’re not into crazy nightlife, drinking and partying but enjoy evening strolls, great food (authentic and delicious over exclusive), and love photography, architecture, and quirky, offbeat spots. We lean more toward the hipster vibe than hardcore anime/otaku culture, but we’d love to check that out too for the experience. 😀
Kyoto:
Take the Shinkansen to Kyoto for around 3 days. Stay in a traditional ryokan or hotel, preferably one with an onsen for a more immersive experience. (Recommendations for areas hostels or hotels welcome!) Suggestions for must-see temples, gardens, or hidden gems would be fantastic. Also any food suggestions, doesnt have to be over top, rather love some authentic cuisine and kind locals!
Okinawa:
Fly to Okinawa, rent a car, and soak up the tropical vibes for a few days. (Recommendations for towns to visit or stays are welcome!) Any tips for beaches, scenic drives, or unique places to stay are appreciated! Also food-tips! 😀
Back to Tokyo:
Spend our last few days in Tokyo but in a different neighborhood to experience another side of the city. (Would love a contrasting stay to the first days!)
What do you think of this plan? Are there any neighborhoods, areas, or specific hotels you’d recommend for each stop? And are 15 days enough for these destinations, or should we adjust our timeline?

My cat (3 1/2 years) is a big cuddle bug and she’s very clingy. I pet her all the time and we snuggle, but when I try to get her to play she just watches me move the wand. Occasionally she might try to grab it or jump on it but mostly she just sits there and watches. She’ll get zoomies and wrestle with her sister, but I’m worried about her. Sometimes I think she gets overwhelmed when I try to entice her to play. I have a disco ball hanging in the window that casts lights all over the room when the sun hits it in the morning and she’ll chase those, but when I try a laser pointer she gets bored easily. I try to turn it into a hunt, having the toy act like an animal, hiding and shaking, making little noises and peeking out every so often, but she doesn’t seem interested.
I don’t want her to become overweight or depressed, but I’m not sure what else I can do, or what other toys might excite her more. I try to help keep her from becoming bored by playing mouse and bird videos on the TV and those do catch her interest, but it’s the physical activity and exercise I really want for her.
I don’t want her to be bored or lonely, but she is very loved, and her sister likes to groom her, so she knows she is too. I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

2025.01.22 21:00 Otherwise-Juice-3528 Open letter to MAGAs: how you could have converted me. There is still time! (I welcome MAGA commenters and will be respectful)
When Trump ran in 2016 there was a brief few weeks where I toyed with the idea of voting for him. He promised to raise taxes on the rich (yes he did promise that!). I thought "wow if we actually had a right wing populist, that might be a good thing."
But I ended up voting Hillary because I did not believe he was an honest person. In the end, he promised everything to everyone and did the same ol GOP tax cut tricks. Thats why I hate him, not because of the things he says.
But even this time, I held out some hope, even if I did not vote for him. "Maybe it was the old GOP holding him back from being a real populist."
Yet again however, he disappointed. Immediately came out and supported H1B visas.
So to the MAGAs out there, I saw a glimmer of hope when there was that reaction against Musk weeks ago for supporting H1B from right wingers. PLEASE go that route. PLEASE drop this faux populism.
I can summarize in one sentence:
If Trump ended H1B visas, I would put his picture up on my wall. Not a fake end. Not a "we renamed it H1C." I mean, no more.
My entire life since undergrad I have seen how much H1B fucks over Americans. I went to graduate school (not going to focus on that here), right. Public school. You know what a lot of graduate programs do? They use H1B visas to import foreign PhDs who want to come here and they bring them in as masters/PhD students. They write papers and do great work - of course they do they are like 20 years older than American students with that much more experience!
Then I get into the workplace and I see that my employer suddenly has half our team under H1B visa. They bring them here to train then send them back to India and we have to have meetings at 7am because of this. They're shitty workers to everything they do has to be fixed. But yeah they can hire 4 for the price of 1 of us.
So MAGAs: I implore you, Trump ain't the guy to do this MAGA stuff right. Democrats aren't ending H1B either. My proposal is modest: keep H1B but any worker brought here is given automatic 10 year residency and can leave their job for any other job in the US. That would get them their truly foreign geniuses while also eliminating the market power they gained from H1B.
Next time around, if you are going to go right wing populist, please pick a real populist at least. This is worst of everything.

I interviewed for them and it seemed legit for a while, and they told me I'll be selling ATT. They said they only promote from within. I asked if they're affiliated with smart circle and they said they're not, but they do the same thing they do.

To preface: I’m a very active person. I’m a dancer & weightlifter.
I tore my left common hamstring, and the recovery of the muscle itself was going well until I felt this very sharp pain in my hip and it became the main source of pain. Got an MRI and got diagnosed with it in my left hip, but we never took any images of the right because I didn’t expect there to be an issue.
I’ve been seeing a physical therapist and I made a joke “I’ve been stretching and massaging out my left leg so much it’s more flexible than the non-injured leg”
He performed the hip flexor stretches that I got used to on my injured hip and the hip I thought was fine was in pain and it was so sensitive he could barely massage it. I started to do more research and realized that I’ve had hip impingement symptoms for a while now and explained certain obstacles I was experiencing in dance, primarily with deep hip stretches.
I stretched sooo much and very adequately. While other parts of my body responded to my stretches, my hips felt stuck. I don’t even feel (much) pain it just won’t go past a certain point.
I have been able to dance and not at a single point was it difficult for me to walk other than the first week or two after I tore my muscle. After stretching the non-injured hip flexor, the pain that came with it had me a little shocked.
Has anyone experienced success with physical therapy? I’m assuming I had this problem before it got severely triggered by a muscle tear. Also, does anyone else have relatives that experience the same issue? My mom has it as well, and it’s a pain that she’s been feeling and complaining about for a decade, but it never immobilized either of us.
I really want fully functioning legs with their fullest range of motion possible because as a dancer, it can seriously impact my life. Also, has anyone had success with the non-invasive arthroscopic surgery the perform for this? It’s something irreversible that I’m worried could disrupt hip function
