2025.01.23 03:23 pretzels180 Valiant Lady in-depth review (first time cruisers)
Overall: We are a couple in our early 20s that decided to take a cruise in the middle of January on the Valiant Lady with way too much time before our flight home. Both of us had no prior cruising experience. This was the 5-night Dominican Daze cruise with a stop at Puerto Plata and Bimini. Our Puerto Plata stop was swapped out with Grand Turk.
Embarkation/Debarkation: From the Miami airport, took public transit (metrorail and metromover) to and from the port in an effort to save drink money lol (and experience a bit of Miami with the few hours we had). We want to highlight this as an option since itās something we havenāt seen on most cruise blogs/posts. Transit was excellent to and through downtown Miami, but the port tram/trolley was inconsistent and confusing as not all trolleys that stop at the posted stop go to the signed destination and headways were between 20-45 minutes. We would 100% recommend this, though if you pack light and have the time since it only cost $4.50 for one way for two.
- Also to note, you CAN also walk between downtown Miami and the port but, as many on the subreddit have pointed out, it is a way that can be made difficult by weather and lack of pedestrianized walkways once you hit the port island. On the Virgin side, everything was so smooth. Arrived at our timeslot of 2:30pm and made it on and to our room within 15 minutes so really nothing to comment on! Debarkation was also very smooth, and we made it off within 15 minutes.
Dining: We ate at all major restaurants for dinner except for Razzle Dazzle. We booked our cruise late (about a month prior) so had later dining times (8:15-8:30pm) but was not an issue. We didnāt research the dining before and wanted to go in blind, so ordered more food than we should have at Extra Virgin and the Wake because we had heard we should try a little of everything.
Extra Virgin
- Food was amazing, to us it was practically elevated Italian food, with a bit more of an emphasis on seafood pastas.
- We ate way too much, charcuterie-esque board was not for us. The bread, appetizers, and pastas were amazing, and we ended up trying three different pastas. Steak was fine, Sea Bass was good. Did not get dessert.
Gunbae - We loved Gunbae, itās interactive and you are seated with other couples. We were seated with three older couples who were very nice. We played the drinking game and our server (forgot his name :( ) was amazing at getting everyone involved even though the older couples were very hesitant.
- Server checked with us and chose what he thought weād all like and he was spot on! The banchan, bibimbap, seafood pancake was our favorites, and the meat was delicious.
- Pink agave was our favorite restaurant of our cruise. Most flavorful and least heavy foods with awesome courses. We got the sip and savor here and it was perfect (especially for scarlet night).
- Got a variety of appetizers and medium plates that were tasty, Sea bass was amazing, steak was really good. Desserts were light and not overly sweet.
- We had Menu C and really liked Test Kitchen. Our server Sol was amazing, and explained and checked in with us after every dish. She even took it in stride when two people got up and left mid-meal as well. We got the Sip and Savor here as well and it paired perfectly.
- We were a bit nervous about the food looking at other reviews, but liked all of the courses and they were truly very well crafted. Subbing out menu items for those on the alternate menu was easy for allergies or likes/dislikes but specify when you originally order to keep the experience seamless.
- We enjoyed The Wake, but it wasnāt our favorite. Again, we paced ourselves poorly, but the food we got wasnāt incredibly impressive which is likely because itās the most ātraditionalā of the offerings. We did purchase a half dozen of the oysters and these were amazing.
- Bread and appetizers were yummy (the clam chowder and bone marrow dish), the steak was pretty good and the Dorade was alright but a little tasteless for me. We ordered some sides that were tasty, but were too full and did not order dessert.
- While we didnāt eat dinner here, we did eat brunch. It was good food but wasnāt exactly our style which is also partially why we chose brunch. The waffle was very sweet to us, the Sunnyside hash was toned down in a way that made it good for breakfast. Bakery items were moist and good.
- We ended up preferring the options in the Galley for breakfast, but this could also be because of more options/not wanting to commit to a set eating time for brunch.
- We ate here for breakfast/lunch or grabbing snacks. Galley had good food options, we especially liked the Bento box place, the taco place for breakfast, and the ramen place. All pretty good especially on a ship!
- We tried the Dock House, Social Club, and Coffee shop- these were all alright, but nothing impressive.
- Special shoutout to the poke bowl place- we tried this on the first day and it was fire
To preface, because of our activity prioritization and dining reservations, we didnāt end up going to many of Virginās shows, only making it to a few - Dual Reality, UNTITLEDDANCEPARTYTHING, Bingo with the Diva, and Last One Standing. For most of the shows, while we REALLY appreciate the artistry that went into both with the most talented groups of dancers and complex choreography, they fell a bit short in our opinion. For Dual Reality, it was honestly just too short and didnāt flesh out its concept as well as it couldāve.
For UNTITLEDDANCEPARTYTHING, a LOT of the references fell very flat for us, leaning into more āmillennialā-esque humor (think ārandomnessā, cats, and even a Titanic recorder joke bit straight out of 2012). Thatās not to say the show was bad (especially in the second half) as the audience seemed to enjoy it (as did we) because the performers are just energetic and execute well.
We also love trivia, but it was disheartening that the two rounds we played of Celebrity Trivia did not have any references more recent than 2011 (even then, that 2011 celebrity was the Beastie Boys for their final album).
Some of the events that we felt were a lot livelier and more fit to what we expected were Bingo with the Diva, Last One Standing, and the Heartbeat Club Night.
- Bingo did have an upfront cost, but the jokes did line up with the ācrudeā-ness we had originally expected and the happenings cast made it an enjoyable event.
- Last One Standing was trivia that was definitely more inclusive, and while it being knock-out trivia made it slightly less participatory, we had a good time.
- Heartbeat club night was by far the best (for us) music we heard during the entire cruise and fit that EDM vibe we were expecting, with songs that we enjoy and recognized! Even though there were few people there, we had a blast.
- Scarlet Nightās pool party- this did have music that was a little more varying and enjoyable for us, but the afterparty was disappointing in comparison.
Bars
On the Rocks- our favorite bar- had live entertainment every night and good drinks! The bartenders made very well-crafted drinks with the exception of one fluke Manhattan. This space did get loud and busy but expected for a large common space in the middle of the ship.
Casino Bar- personable bartenders and we liked the small space and proximity to the Manor, Red Room, and casino without being very crowded. Drinks were good.
Manor Bar- Usually very crowded, and drink selection was pretty weak. Especially with loud entertainment nearby, it got the job done.
The Loose Cannon- We liked the drink we got (with a buzz button iykyk), but it was pretty sugary and other drink options looked pretty sweet as well.
Ports
Grand Turk - Loved the clear blue waters and spent all day sat by the beach (canāt say one of us didnāt come out burnt š) but was worth it for some of the best swimming youāll do in the Caribbean.
Bimini - A very surprising love for us, as well. The beach club had a fun atmosphere, with a near constant pool party throughout the day that wasnāt overbearing/overstimulating. The music here was enjoyable, the pool wasnāt overcrowded, and the floaties were fun. We opted to go in the beach area too and while cold, the water was nice. The shuttle to/from the beach club was easy and very consistent. The food was also pretty good, and we liked that it differed from other food on the ship.
Service
While our linens didnāt get changed every day (and we didnāt need that), our bed got made (with blanket art reminiscent to more traditional cruising) and water refilled with new glasses after pressing the blue cleaning light before we left for the day. Our cabin attendant, Mohammad Ali, was awesome!
All of the servers, managers, and other crew were extremely helpful throughout the entire cruise, and even when we just simply looked lost in the Galley, they were helpful in letting us know options, and where to go. I donāt think we had a bad interaction with any of them or really anybody while on the cruise.
Casino
Casino was a bit small, but since we aren't heavy gamblers, it was good enough to play some slots and blackjack. The dealers we had were also generally friendly!
- We did want to try the Smoking Room as we thought it would be more like a cigar lounge (did not do our research here) but it ended up feeling more like a depressing afterthought of an area off behind the cash out area of the casino. This was not very clear on the app and, even though it didnāt detract as the smoking area on Deck 16 is good, it was a slight disappointment.
- Bar tab- we purchased a total of $600 in bar tab and got an extra $100 because of a Bar Tab deal. we were concerned about how much bar tab we had, but with one heavier night and the drink pairings we finished it out perfectly.
- We didnāt understand the difference between bar tab and sailor loot when we got on board- things like bingo cards and special foods at places like the wake ARE at an extra charge. Oops.
- Wifi was okay as expected, slow but usable.
- Drinking water availability around the ship was a little sparse- We couldāve called and asked for refills in our carafes, but it was strange to not see any water stations closer to us than the 15th floor. At bars, however, they had plenty of water available.
- Of course the happenings cast was amazing, and they do their jobs with such grace and enthusiasm. Itās so hard to do what they do well, and they surpass that. Shout out to them especially for making this cruise a blast no matter what! <3
Weāll definitely be back on another sailing soon, but if anybody has any tips/feedback/suggestions please let us know so we can make the most of our next trip!

Hi, I have a 6-year-old female York Chocolate cat, and she is my twin flame. I love her so much. There is nothing I would not do for this cat. Importantly, we have been housemates for the past two years, but she has only recently been living exclusively in my basement suite (she has access to the whole house but chooses to stay downstairs except for eating).
That said, I am a university student, and during the winter term, I study at home. My dear cat, Miss Luna, tries to spend every waking moment sleeping in my lap. I cannot study while she is cuddling. She's so fluffy and sweet that I get incredibly unproductive while cuddling her. I love all of her cuddles and that she is so affectionate, but I need her to stay occupied with something else while I study, at least sometimes.
Of course, I could never punish her for being a darling. Sometimes, I redirect her attention to her toys, but it doesn't distract her for more than 60 seconds. I would hate to keep her locked upstairs because she gets sad and lonely.
Is there something I can do to distract her while I'm studying that I have not tried yet?

The game includes burning people alive, eating human corpses, also human corpses controlled by demons, and literal serial killers murdering people violently in cold blood. I am 99% sure that this was a misunderstanding of some kind, because why else would they pull the skin literally last second? Someone gotta have said "you know it's a game for children, right?" and sabotaged the whole thing. Because if the creator had any context, then why do this? They are okay with Jeff the Killer coming to the game, but "Jeff but female" is too much for kids? Like, what? Did they even know that it's a Jeff skin? Something tells me the creator had no fucking idea of what Pillar Chase 2 even was, and how dark and brutal some things in it were. There is no scenario where this is a logical decision. The fact that such a brutal horror game even tries to suck up to younge audience is insane to me. Blade. Blade, buddy, are you being held at gunpoint recently? Cause some weird shit is going on and tons of stuff just gets removed or changed. The Nina situation just shows to me that the game is heading into a completely wrong direction currently, and we NEED to be vocal about this. We can't let PC2 turn into a game for children. Because that's not what it is. Every horror franchise that tried turning more family friendly failed, and this won't be a good thing here, as well. The game is already losingn players. That's it. I'm not sure what is gonna happen next. I dislike the classic Jeff skin, so i'm not happy with the alternatives which i am offered, thus i'm not sure why i even wasted my time grinding for Nina. I have recently gotten into looking at the code while playing games on my browser so I can see the different outcomes lol. I used to buy all the games when they were individual apps (showing my age) and via the Hosted Games app. Iām trying to play Evertree Inn, which I purchased as an app. I see the option to restore purchases from Steam, but can I do this for the App Store? I use the same email for my browser account as my Hosted Games app, but it says I havenāt purchased it on the browser. I think I remember being able to restore purchases on the app if I had purchased it on the browser, but I donāt know if the reverse is possible. If this isnāt an option, I really wish it was.

i previously took my diagnostic pt at 152, spent the last months to read the loophole, took notes on all the question types and then entered the practice section so fresh faced and hopeful. i completely messed up timing and rushed through like ten questions at the end with six minutes remaining. all the question types i did well on in the loophole just completely out the windowā¦ i messed up even level 1 necessary assumption questions. and i just couldnāt find any contradictions or loopholes anywhere. iām not sure if the timing made it chaotic or i just lost my head completely. not sure what exactly im going for in my post. im planning on the april exam and my dad is pretty just making me take it, i donāt really have a say. any encouraging words would be helpful. if thereās someone else with abysmal lr starting scores and ended up doing well on the exam, any tips would also be appreciated. i just feel so unmotivated and stupid. if it helps, its test 135 section 2.

Hello everyone! Recently, I inherited my daughter's RG353V device running ArkOS because she used it for a few days before setting it aside for months. When I started using it, I quickly realized why: the device is fantastic and engaging, but it contains over 15,000 games from 20 different platforms, making it overwhelming to choose anything.
While having so many options isn't a bad problem to have, I'm reaching out to see if anyone can suggest a more manageable list of must-play games on the RG353V. Iām not looking for a curated list of 10,000 games; even 1,000 seems excessive. If someone could point me to a selection of around 100-200 standout games (pure gems), that would be fantastic. With such a list, I might consider giving the device back to my daughter and see if she engages with it more.

Hi all, I really need some advice because I feel soooo confused and sooo defeated.
Iām a 5ā9ā woman, currently weighing 160 lbs (just measured myself at night post-dinner, so it might be a bit lower). A few years back, after high school, I lost a lot of weight just through dietāno exercise. I was eating in a big calorie deficit and got down to 130ā135 lbs, which I maintained for years through university while eating and drinking whatever I wanted. I was ok with my body at that weight, but I didnāt love it because I was skinny but not fitāmy legs were veryyy thin, but I held some fat around my hips and belly.
Fast forward to now: Iāve gained 25 lbs over the past two years due to antidepressants, diet changes, and mental health struggles (I was in a DV relationship). Iām trying to lose that weight again but want to do it differently this timeāI want to be lean (skinny), toned, and defined,(like those VS models!!) not just skinny. Iāve been doing the 75 Hard challenge since January 12, so Iām working out twice a dayā30 minutes of cardio (inclined walking 12-3-30), Lagree, and weight lifting. Iām also eating around 1,300 calories a day and hitting about 70-100g of protein MAX (I'm finding this hard). I feel full and definitely donāt feel like Iām starving myself.....
Hereās the problem: Iām so confused about whether Iām doing this right. Everyone says, āMuscle weighs more than fat,ā and itās making me second-guess everything. Iām not trying to be a bodybuilder; I just want to look skinny, lean, and toned while seeing the scale go downnnnnn. Will the scale not change if Iām building muscle? I keep hearing conflicting advice, and my trainer wonāt answer my questions (heās being an asshole, honestly).
Also, I prefer eating two meals a day, but my trainer insists that I wonāt lose weight unless I eat three meals. he says the way im doing this im just going to look skinny and floppy.
I just want to lose 25 lbs, have a nice ass (I do more lower body weight lifting), be toned, and feel good in my body.
Can someone explain to me like EVERYTHING? Iām genuinely feeling stuck. Any help would mean soooooo muchāthank you!

I don't want to quit petsmart.. at least not yet ...Overall, I still like it, but I have pretty much decided to go down to part-time. I think full time is 32 hrs so I'm going to go down to 4 days a week and see how I feel first. I've been looking though the benefits pages on hr- connect and it seems like I can keep my medical plans. I know I will lose my accrued vacation time though. I've been with the company 8yrs so I get 3 wks vacation. Has anyone done this? Does your vacation go away as soon as they change you job code? I work with someone who has been with PS for 16 yrs and when she went to part time all her accrued vacation went away. Personally, I think it's unfair to take someone's accrued vacation time. Like I get I'm going down to part time, but I still worked all those years I feel like I should at least get to keep getting vacation time for all the years I worked. I know that's NOT how it works though so it's a mute point.
