2025.01.23 13:10 bethcano Received terrible journal proof: can I ask for another proof to be sent to confirm the editors made my corrections?
I've received a proof for a paper I submitted, and I'm a little appalled at the quality. The editor appears to have gone a bit rogue making edits to my mansucript which are just fundamentally wrong. Some of the issues are just irritating (e.g., changed some of my British spellings to American ones, but not all, so the text is just inconsistent with that now) but others are more serious scientific errors such as changing the formatting of a key phrase which appears repeatedly in the text so that now it means something entirely different.
I feel like a dick, but I've been going through line-by-line and flagging the key phrase errors. I don't trust the original editor to correct all their errors so I'd ideally want to review another proof to confirm that it's acceptable to me again. Is this possible - if so, how do I ask for this without looking like a pompous ass?
