2025.01.24 01:52 Netoniloyan Subreddit Idea: FanFic Book Club
I see a lot of posts on here asking for fic recommendations, and there have been some bangers I've read because of this sub. But what I haven't seen a lot of is discussion about particular fics. I think it would be cool if had a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly post where we all talked about a particular story. We could talk about the things we liked about it or why it didn't work for us. Basically we could treat that post like a book club for fan stories.
If there's actual interest in that, I'd like to propose some ground rules:
1) Completed fics only: Some of the best stories out there are currently on-going but I don't think we should focus on the hundreds of finished stories so we're not caught half-way through stories with questions we don't know will be answered. Completed stories in an on-going series is fine, though it'd probably be best if the story could be read as a stand-alone for was the first entry in the series.
2) Fics should be a manageable length: Some of the OGs stories are many thousands of words long. While many of them are worth the read, their length makes it hard to fit in a regular interval. There should be some wiggle room, but maybe under 15k to 20k words for a weekly discussion.
3) Avoid Smut: There are some good stories despite or because of their spicy scenes, but it seems like beyond a PG-13 line, in-depth discussion of those elements should be reserved for the Club TB.
I think that's basically it. If there is real interest in this idea, I'll try to set something up for 02/01. Those who are interested, please feel free to post suggestions for fics in the comments. If there are ground rules I've overlooked, let me know that also. I'll monitor this thread through the weekend. We can make a decision on if/how we're going to proceed then. I do think this could be a good way to promote the good work folks are doing and to add a fresh element to discussions.

Exhaust heat/heat shield
Hey everybody, sparky here. Currently renting a house with other family/friends so I have to play within their boundaries here aswell lol. My neighbour recently installed a diesel heater in his garage and thought stubbing the exhaust right by our parking pad was the best idea. You can imagine the heat coming off this pipe. I spoke with him and he said he would try to make it flush as much as he can (not the solution I wanted but again, I'm not the only one in this housing equation and I can't go all Rambo and cause drama if other members of my household are not okay with it) I told him to run more exhaust and drill a new hole but apparently that's not possible. Once he installs it as flush as he can I plan on adding a heat shield around it while still allowing it to vent. I don't know of any heat shield products that aren't meant to wrap around and insulate pipes. I'm essentially looking for something where I can bend it around to prevent any heat from not escaping directly upwards. Any material or construction advice will be greatly appreciated & for the neighbour advice...if it was up to me & the repair didn't entail the pipe being completely and utterly being out of my way I'd be filling it with spray foam. Also that fitting in not secured on the flexible pipe, it's squished on

I'm sure this is asked often, but what makes it OCD? Compulsions?
I've always been a worrier and in the last year I've had constant anxiety. I always thought I had OCD because when I'm tired I would do things like double check I locked the door, double check the ovens off- even if I never had it on. I would drive home to make sure these things had happened. But after a few sessions with me, my therapist had told me she does not think it's OCD but just ways of managing my anxiety and tried to help me with that.
BUT I think I've had more compulsions lately. I'm driving back down the road to make sure I didn't hit anyone. My therapist thought that was me trying to control my anxiety.
Now my focus is health anxiety, for myself, and INTENSE fear I'll make others sick, and feeling like I'm responsible for their well-being.
For the first time my therapist has started discussing "mental compulsions" that I'm engaging in, and strategiws for not feeding them.
So ... When you had an OCD diagnosis is it because of physical/mental compulsions? Do therapists officially diagnose, or should I go talk to a psychiatrist? Does it matter if it's anxiety or OCD - are treatments similar?
Any insights welcome ... It's rough out here!

I am thinking about buying a used Mach e as a work vehicle. My drive to and from work is close to 50 miles one way and I am putting tons of miles on my current vehicle, which is a 2022 F150 raptor. I don’t want to run my raptor into the ground and gas is costing me a ton. I am looking at used Mustang Mach e’s and I noticed a lot of them show buybacks or lemon buybacks when I look at the Carfax. The one that I have in mind has a clean history and is a 2022, but I’m just curious as to any problems or issues people out there have had. The fact that I see so many buybacks makes me apprehensive. I don’t want a Tesla because I refuse to give my money to Musk.

I'll preface this with I'm probably just an idiot but maybe there's a chance I'm not? Just set up the new Slushi. First mix the kids wanted to try was the Wendy's slushi (made just under 64oz of a mix. It was damn good however after about 30min the machine beeped, the motor stopped and all the lights were lit. I read it's a motor failure but I have no idea what would cause it. I unplugged it and let it sit for a few minutes and it fired back up. Then after another 10min or so it beeped again, the motor stopped, but this time the temp lights were scrolling up. I read that error means it's too concentrated. Is that a result of the mixture getting less and less? Is this common for anyone (should I expect this to happen often)?

2025.01.24 01:52 MattyIsCumming Coolant leak right under reservoir?
My 2012 Volt will not hold coolant, I noticed going to work this morning that my heat wouldn’t work unless I was moving. I also started to smell a burning scent once I got closer to work. I let my car warm up like normal and it was fine when i left home. By the time I got back, engine coolant reservoir was completely dry. No warning lights, I live in PA and it has been very cold. I tried putting more coolant in and it drains instantly, leaking out into the wheel well right underneath where the engine coolant reservoir is located. The electronics fluid is fine however, no leaks and is still full. Is this likely a cracked reservoir or hose? Or could it be something worse like a bad radiator or head gasket?
