This is gonna be a rant, but we need to start sending a message to the government. Our government is *not* the US government. Canada was setup to be a collective of communities working together for a common goal.
When election time rolls around, grill your MPPs. Hold them accountable for your community. Forget Ford, or Stiles, or Crombie (unless they're your MPP). Talk with *your* MPP. If they're a jag-off back bencher who does nothing for your riding other than show up to Queens Park the bare minimum number of times, and votes however their party tells them to vote, kick their ass to the curb!
Our politicians have gotten fat and complacent in their duties, forgetting the simple fact that they are civil servants. They work for us, not the other way around.
Don't vote for the blue guy just because they're blue and "fuck the libs". Don't vote for red because they're red and "fuck the cons". Vote for your candidate who will serve as the voice for *your* community.
Every election cycle, whether federal or provincial, I grill the all the candidates the same way: "What are your plans for my community? How will you represent my riding in government? What initiatives are you going to bring forward to make our community, and the province/country as a whole a better place? How are *you* going to help bring jobs to our community? How are *you* going to help the homeless in our community? How will you vote if your party wants one thing, but your constituents want another? Are you willing to stand against your party and the government if that's what your community needs? Will you stand against the opposition if that's what your community needs? Will you stand with them? You are a representative of this community, our voice in parliament, what do you bring to Queens Park/Parliament Hill for us?"
Dollars to doughnuts, you will either get a response of toeing the party line, if you even get a response. Those are not the candidates we need. We need candidates who won't be whipped into the party line, and will hold the government accountable. We need candidates who are involved in their communities. Ones who will talk with businesses, ones who will attend community events, who will be one of us.
That, my friends, is how our government is to be formed. A House of the Common People for the Common people. Forget political alignments. If you're a die-hard conservative, yet your liberal candidate is competent and is willing to fight, vote them in. Likewise if you're a liberal, or an NDP'er. Don't just blindly vote for your favourite colour.
Hold. Them. Accountable.
For too long, my community has voted Conservative not because the MPPs or MPs are good at what they do...they're terrible at what they do. Neither one responds to emails, phone calls. Neither support the community in anyway. Yet, election after election, they get voted in because "Fuck Trudeau."
Please, for the love of God, stop doing this!

My company offers me a pension program that defers my income tax. So I contribute some pre-tax money, then the employer matches some amount. These grow at a certain interest rate over a long, long time. Then at retirement age, I get to take this out and use it in my old age.
How is this pension taxed when I retire? Is it:
- All as ordinary income (14-42%, depending on the income of that year you get the pension)
- All as capital gains (26.38%)
- A combination of 1 and 2. (My contribution and company's match get taxed as ordinary income 14-42%; and then the growth get taxed as capital gain at 26.38%)
