2025.01.24 18:18 Frankaragatan Should NBA send non-playoff teams to the Euroleague playoffs?

NBA Playoffs for this year start April 19. Euroleague playoffs start April 22.
Last year NBA was April 20, EL was April 23.
In the Euroleague, they also have a play-in in the same vein as the NBA play-in. Literally the same format for seeds 7-10.
8 teams qualify for the Euroleague playoffs. Same in the NBA, per conference.
However, instead of 7 game series, they only do 5 game series. And that's not all the way, that's just for Quarterfinal round. Semifinals and Final are one-game knockout win-or-go-home games.
At most, the Euroleague champion would be playing 7 games. That's two weeks worth of games stretched to five weeks.
I don't think that's asking too much.
 
But in this proposed scenario, they would be playing at most 8 games. We would add a round.
7 teams from the East are eliminated, 7 teams from the West are eliminated.
That's the number of NFL playoff teams.
We will simply give a bye to the last team to be eliminated in the play-in (they played two games already, that's enough).
Then this will be the other three teams:

Could be home court advantage of higher seeded team, could be a neutral court. Maybe like Las Vegas or something. One game knockout to qualify.
 
If a player like Steph doesn't want to play extra games, then he doesn't have to. The Warriors could play whoever wants to play and if they don't make to at least 12 players, they can pull from their G League roster pool in their affiliated team.
What's in it for NBA teams? Competition. Experience for younger guys. Extra money in the bank.
The knockout games happen in the same week as the play-in games. There's a rest day in between, yeah that's where the 11v14 and 12v13 will be played.
Last play-in game has to be played at April 18, so NBA teams will get at least 3 days of rest.
In their flight for the Paris games, Spurs had 3 days off and the Pacers had 4 days off.
 
There will be an added round of 16 where 8 Euroleague teams will play 8 NBA teams (4 East, 4 West) in the first round in a five game series. All NBA teams will automatically have a home court disadvantage. Games 3 and 4 will be played in their NBA home court. Games 1, 2 and 5 will played at Euroleague team's homecourt. It will be #1 Euro vs #8 NBA, #2 Euro vs #7 NBA, ... #8 Euro vs #1 NBA. NBA teams will be seeded based on their regular season record.
So for example for last year, the first round of the Euroleague would look something like this:
They can do this kind of bracket. Or they can do re-seeding after this round. Or they can do whatever the fuck they want.
 
Now, historically a city hosts the final four of the euroleague. Just like in the superbowl. But instead of one final game, two teams; it's three games, four teams. Two semifinal games and the championship game.
Now in this proposed scenario there will be 7 knockout games instead of the usual 3 games. On top of the 2 semis and the championship, there will be added 4 quarterfinal knockout games.
I propose that 2 host cities will host the 4 QF games.
So for our example, Berlin will host the final four, just like last year. Then Paris and London will each host 2 quarterfinal games.
The schedule will look something like this:

Domantas can claim a Euroleague championship just like his dad. Fox could add a Euroleague championship to his HOF résumé. He's a fringe guy but this could help his career. Could add some confidence for the next season too.
 
I think this would help both leagues. Make some money, get some ratings. Games would likely be in the afternoon since we have to accommodate the European audiences. So, could be an appetizer to playoff games that day.
Would it be disastrous for the Euroleague if an NBA team wins it every year from here on out? Well, they just have to beat them if they don't want that to happen.
Imagine LaMelo Ball, Scottie Barnes, Jordan Poole, Shaedon Sharp lighting it up. Only 6-8 games, man. Only 40 minutes per game. You'd say it's different rules, I mean, it's still basketball. LeBron, KD, Steph and company had no problem playing basketball in the Olympics. If there were problems, it's the competition, not the rules. It's not like going from MMA to Boxing or vice versa. It's not like going from tennis to table tennis or vice versa.
If these young guys play hard as if it were their playoffs, it's gonna be lit. I imagine those NBA home games will be sold out too, as people from their fanbases are probably craving for some playoff atmosphere type of games.
This is money, this is entertainment. Half true. But also this is experience, this is competition, this is reunion to some of the euroleague youth systems made current NBA players, this can be a door of opportunity for some Euroleague players wanting to have a shot at the NBA like Yabusele in the Olympics, this is overall good for the sport of basketball.

Hello everyone! I’ve been a lurker in this page for quite some time. After spending 9 years supporting my husbands business and becoming a mom, I’m dying to start on my own career journey. I’m 29 years old and have been taking online prereqs for a 2 year rad tech program. I am trying to plan long term for career growth. I think I would be VERY happy as a radiation therapist, but I am not in proximity to a radiation therapy program, nor could I afford university costs at this point. I can, however, afford the two year rad tech program, and I have a good amount of money due to hit to fund any additional schooling within the next two years.
So my question is, is it wise to do the local rad tech program, and then do an online bridge program to finish my bachelors/get certified to be a radiation therapist simultaneously? I’d like to ultimately get my bachelors in radiography so that I have the option of becoming a dosimetrist eventually if I want to. Is it incredibly difficult to get into these bridge programs? Does anyone have experience with them? I’d appreciate any input!
