For a lot context, I (F 18) have had the misfortune of my cousin (M 32) living in my families house, mom, dad, younger sister(16) for 3 years RENT FREE sleeping on our couch/ living in our living room. At first him living with us was pretty cool, when i was younger i thought he was cool and was always close with him, but when he moved in my sophomore year of high school he sort of became combative. He was really supposed to stay with us for a couple of weeks while he got back on his feet after some stuff went down, but I noticed that when I would say stuff and he would always have to say something in return, whether i was having a conversation with my mom or talking with my friend on the phone, he always had to tell his opinion on my situations or something. He would always get mad at me for making âexcessiveâ noise when i would wake up in the morning to wash my face, or in the evening when I would do my skin care, complaining to my mom about how he âcouldnât sleep and would sleep in his carâ, or when my sister and i would talk at night he would get angry and throw fits, so eventually my sister and I started purposefully annoying him by doing late night karaoke at full volume in the kitchen, talking loudly at night.
This has been my life for 3 years and as you can assume any feelings of fondness from the beginning have completely dissipated and have been replaced instead with agony at the sight of him.
So now to the main story, I had my dog Logan since I was in 6th grade. He was a true angel and attached to me immediately, acting as an emotional support animal for me as we got him at a time when my anxiety and depression was really bad. He would snuggle me when i cried and really gave me a reason to keep living. As I got older and my issues went away Logan stayed loyal to me and acted as my companion for life.
Right around when I graduated high school i noticed a little mass on his neck but thought it was just a clump of fur or something, but as time went on I realized it really was a tumor. My family could not afford to get him checked out (in my area where i live especially vets are HELLA expensive and only one of my parents was working at the time). His tumor continued to get worse and my family would complain of his smell, and my cousin would gag and cover his nose complaining that he smelled like ârotting fleshâ. I would reply to all of them that they were âpreaching to the choirâ and how âi as his mother have to deal with it much more than them, i sleep in the same room as him, his bed is right beside mineâ etc and this would stop their complaints to me for the day.
Then one week before christmas im sitting at my dining room table eating lunch and he comes up to me and says âwe are putting your dog down next week, prepare yourselfâ. i look at my sister and mom in astonishment, unsure of how to react. I knew that it would be best for my dog as he was unhealthy, but putting it so plainly was awful. Then he has the audacity to continue by saying âas your christmas presentâ. i literally dropped my fork and started crying, my sister said âwhy would you say something like thatâ and he said some BS but i donât quite remember as im pretty sure i was in shock.
Christmas eve/ day rolls around and i am in a state of shock, not really interacting with my family members and sort of just wishing I was home with my dog (as he was to be put down on Dec. 27th). The day before rolls around and i wanted to take my dog out on last little adventures, to the beach, to taco bell, etc, but my dad thought it was best to just let him rest bc near the end he really just slept all day. Iâll spare the details but my dog was put down, and as I came home crying my cousin couldnât offer me one word of condolence, and now I hate him.
I donât blame him for killing my dog, but i feel like he couldâve been a little nicer about itđ Just wanted to share this story somewhere so i could share my rage with someone other than my sisters and friendsđđđ. Also if my family magically finds and tells him ab this or he hears of it i have a note: since my parents donât have the guts to tell you, MOVE THE FUCK OUT i want the living room back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
