I know the full-stop is also used today. What I mean is it seems to me that the colon is much more commonly used nowadays than the full-stop. However, all the sources I have seen so far – both modern and historical – only show the use of full-stop when separating the hour from the minute (e. g., ‘17.30’ as in my first example). I wonder if it’s impolite to address someone by their full name in an email, as in “Dear Firstname Lastname.” I know it’s common practice to address someone with honorific plus their last names, such as “Dear Mr. Stone,” when we don’t really know the person. I'm jamaican American, I used to speak patwa when I was younger but I lost the skill overtime because It's easier for most people to understand normal English and my mom just never really taught me fully . I can understand patwa as my mom speaks it, I literally have carribean friends but whenever I speak it I'm obviously American and it sounds sorta like I'm imitating it. I wanna learn how to speak it again my friend has kept her dialect and can switch from American English to patwa easily but also because I was dicussing moving with my mom and she mentioned that when I move I can embrace my natural accent instead of the American accent and I realized my accent is low-key fried and I'm basically the no Sabo kid of jamaica which is embarrassing. Any of yall struggle with this? It makes me feel like a imposter in my own culture.

As the title say. I'm just incredibly overwhelmed with information on the new cards, possible price drops, availability ect ect. I know the 5070s will be coming out soon but apparently they arent all that great and will likely sell out fast. I was looking at 4080 Supers but they seem to be a little expensive and I cant find a solid price. I could also go with a 4070 Ti or something but I don't know what a good price is for that either after looking or if I need to keep waiting for possible price drops? I'm buying most of my PC components tomorrow except for the GPU because I cant seem to find any single solid thing to go with. Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance for someone who just can't seem to lock in a decision? I really appreciate how helpful the PC community on Reddit is and have almost figured this all out thanks to you guys otherwise!

I know it's difficult to give business advice without knowing the complete ins and outs of my business - but I wonder whether someone might be able to shed some light on my lack of growth. And also, if this business is still viable in me pursuing.
Just to start - I feel like I maybe need to bring someone else in to help either with new business, or just the day to day design work and I focus on the new business.
Although when you take my sales into account below, I wonder how that's possible? (I should mention, I've recently got a part time job just to make sure I can pay the rent and cover most of my important outgoings including expenses). It's only working 3 days a week at minimum wage (about 11,000 per annum). This part time job is actually ending soon due to redundancy, and I'm either going to get a full time graphic design job to help invest more into the business, or just have a full time job at minimum wage (whichever I can grab first!)
To give a bit of context - I'm a freelance graphic designer (with 13 years experience) so I know my industry pretty well know in terms of costings and timescales and what work I'm good at doing.

I've had a lot of success with logos, websites and general marketing collateral (brochures and presentation decks).
Graphic design and marketing is a massively saturated market now - although I've managed to build up a fairly consistent client list mainly in the entrepreneurial sector.
The first 2 years of my business I had a lot more bookings with marketing agencies working in-house with them which was better paid, but meant I couldn't use any of the work due to signing non-disclaimers as part of the work which I didn't want to continue doing.
My sales have come from referrals and website enquiries (50% split between the 2 I'd say, although more now I'd say referrals)
I'm not the cheapest designer out there, but I'm not the most expensive compared to an agency. I'll charge £300 - £3000 for a brand identity project depending on what the client is after.
I'm aware my sales are pretty low generally, here's my breakdown of the last 4 years:
2024-2025: My sales sheet ends in April, and I estimate no more than £8000
2023-2024: £12,366.68 before tax & £2,906.27 expenses.
2022-2023: £17,164.01 before tax & £1771 expenses.
2021-2022: £14,229.36 before tax & £4134 expenses.
This year I've found client delays a bit of a factor that I'm trying to crack down on. Obviously if I don't get the work done quick enough, I can't make more sales.
My expenses are kept pretty low, I don't have an office space I pay rent for - I only pay for software costs, file storage such as dropbox, design assets where needed such as stock photos and travel costs which are fairly minimal as I do a lot of remote calls now.
In terms of investing back into the business which I probably haven't done enough, I have had social media consultancy, mentoring and paid content written to help certain parts of my website.
I've harnessed and trying to improve my SEO which has been a great help, and I've also got some sort of social media strategy that seems to get engagement but not always sales.
My pricing at the moment is split between per project basis and hourly. I have discussed retainers with my clients but a lot of them say they don't have the budget. A new method I've been discussing with 1 client is a fixed amount of hours throughout the year. For example, say 60 hours for £1800.
I have 3 main long term clients who've been working with me for longer than 2 years and the rest have had 1 or 2 jobs with me and then I don't hear from them for quite a few months or a year even.
Hopefully this is high level enough for someone to shed a bit of light on my issue! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

2025.01.30 21:50 Anacondistan TIL the 1981 NBC TV cut of Halloween 1978 and the extended cut aren't quite the same thing

I had seen the extended cut before with the scenes filmed on the set of Halloween II. Since these scenes were shot specifically for it's television showing, I assumed the extended cut that I saw was the cut shown when it first aired. However, I just watched the TV Cut and it's actually got a lot of things cut. Bad language is dubbed over (for example, when Laurie realises she has forgotten her chemistry book, she says "oh shoot!" instead of "oh shit!". The nudity is almost entirely removed (for example the Bob-Lynda sex scene is completely removed). The violence is also tamed down (for example the shot of Laurie being stabbed in the arm is gone)
So, basically, the extended cut is just the normal version with added scenes. The TV cut not only has the added scenes but also has quite noticeable changes to the rest of the movie.

I have 2 cats, both are neutered. One I’ve had for 6-7 years, the other for 4-5. I stay at home so I play with them practically all day, or with my dogs. So they get a lot of attention. I have them in a room at night or when I’m gone so they don’t destroy my whole house but every day I’m picking up broken things or scratched up furniture, or things they’ve thrown around the room. I was told it was bc they are food motivated and saw me as their food source so they went nuts any time I was away so I gave them an auto feeder. They now have knocked it over and broke into it at least 3 times. A couple months ago my oldest jumped up to a place I didn’t even know he could get to and broke his leg falling down on the cat ledge. I’ve had to get rid of the ledges because they broke them, I have had to get rid of 2 chairs bc they destroyed them, I’ve had so many things be broken including a treat jar and they ate the ceramic. If you can’t tell I’ve had to shell out a lot of money in vet bills. I literally cannot give them any more time than they have. And I’ve stopped cleaning up the non glass issues they create bc I’m disabled and my body cannot keep up with deep cleaning every day. I want them to not have to be locked up at night, there was once a time I could trust them to be out. What do I do? They are 7 and 5 years old, why are they now going crazy? Should I consider rehoming them at this point? I really don’t want to do that, I love them so much.

2025.01.30 21:50 Standard-Jello5807 CRJ-700 and US Army HH-60 mid air collision - this is weird. It doesn't add up

Ok, so this isn't a conspiracy theory. I just want to point out some weird things that don't make sense, from the perspective of a person with a bit of aviation experience, from both the military and civilian sectors, after watching security camera footage of the HH-60 helicopter's controlled flight into the CRJ-700 airliner that was clearly on final approach with full flaps and gear down, and barely above stall speed at probably no more than 300 - 400 feet above ground level (AGL). If you pilot either of these aircraft, or are in the ATC business, I would love to hear your perspective on this.
Background: I have more than 6 years and 500 flight hours on military C-130H aircraft as an aircrew member, and am very familiar with the fact that all military aircraft are equipped with a Terrian Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) that detects an imminent Collison in mid air with another aircraft or with the terrain (ground) and audibly directs the flight crew to either climb or descend 500 feet with audible alarms that must be acknowledged. I have actually experienced a near mid air Collison on the C-130 with a Piper cub that did not have a transponder, and therefore did not have any TCAS warnings, and which is why our plane was suddenly so close to a mishap with the Piper, because the it did not appear on our radar until it triggered our TCAS, and was not being contrilled by ATC. I also spent years as an Instructor and evaluator in my aircrew position and was the unit air and ground safety representative whose duties included being up to speed on ground and midair mishaps, crashes, fires, etc.
Anyway, as far as I know, all civilian and military aircraft operating in FAA controlled airspace neaover CONUS have some sort of TCAS system, whether military or civilian. I am not a pilot, but I deice CRJ-700s regularly at the airport and have observed them up close and personal in take off roll out and landing due to the close proximity of our deicing pads to the active runways, and have experience speaking directly with the pilots prior during and after deicing operations.
So back to the tragedy here. (I'll post a link to the video I am referring to).There should be no way at all, whatsoever, that this mid air collison occured. For starters, both aircraft should have been actively controlled the entire time by air traffic controllers at Reagan International airport, and should have been on each other's radar, as well as the radar of the ATC at Reagan. Inthe video, the CRJ-700 and HH-60 appear to be flying right at each other (the helicopter flies from left to right and the CRJ, initially flies from right to left), until less than 1 minute prior to the mishap, when suddenly the CRJ clearly changes directions, and begins flying away from the HH-60 (in roughly the same direction of travel, at least from the abgke the video is taken, also flying from left to right, and clearly begins descending). The HH-60 appears to remain on its same heading the entire time, and actually appears to speed up and climb, gaining speed on and catching up to the CRJ, until it flies directly into it from what appears to be the right side (#2 side) based on its direction of travel, or from behind.
At face value, this seems impossible for the helo to catch up to and overtake the airliner, but a quick search reveals that the average landing speed of a CRJ-700, (also known as VREF or reference speed) on final approach at flaps set to 30 and gear down, with approximately 60 persons on board, is between 115-125 knots or 132.3-143.8 MPH. At this speed and altitude, with the plane configured for landing: flaps 30, gear down, throttles reduced, etc., there would have been no time to react or to maneuver away from the helicopter. Any sudden climb, descent, or course changes could easily stall the aircraft and cause a loss of control and a crash. Even a bird strike or loss of an engine at this critical phase of flight would have required the CRJ to continue its landing and possibly perform an emergency go around while over the runway, if able (which sadly they never reached).
Now the HH-60 Black Hawk has a top speed of of 193 knots or 222 MPH, and a typical cruising speed (straight and level flight during normal operations, like a training mission) of 120-140 knots or 138.09 - 161.1 MPH.
As mentioned before, it appears the HH-60 speeds up (to nearly twice the speed of the CRJ, by my eye) after the CRJ turns away (reports I've heard say that CRJ was asked by ATC to switch heading to a different runway - presumably while they were still far enough out/high enough to safely do so). Then, in the last few seconds prior to the collison, the helicopter actually climbs straight into the CRJ and the explosion is seen.
So, it is physically possible for the helicopter to fly nearly twice the speed of the airliner, which explains how it is able to gain on and overtake the airliner, even after it has turned away and started moving in roughly the same direction of travel as the helicopter. However, what makes no sense is that even with night vision goggles on, the helicopter crew should have very clearly seen a decently large regional jet with all of its landing lights, navigation lights and strobe lights on that was only seconds from touchdown. The windscreen of an HH-60 is quite expansive and gives a mostly unobstructed view in nearly 180 degrees forward and above (I've been in the cockpit of several). Until they began their climb, the HH-60 flight crew should have had no obstructions from their cockpit to see the CRJ during straight and level flight, and especially if ATC was asking them if they had a visual on the CRJ which is standard procedure when passing within close proximity of or ona Collison course with another aircraft (A/C), and the pilots of both A/C would be required to verbally "confirm visual" once the other A/C was in sight, and keep their visual until they safely pass by.
The reports so far are that the helicopter was a highly trained unit out of Ft. Belvior, who's mission is the presidential and VIP transport. I'm not familiar with this unit, but that would certianly suggest that all three crew members were the most highly experienced and seasoned flyers of this helicopter. If one or two of the three were under some form of evaluation, as the SECDEF announced today, then the other crew member would have been the most experienced person and would have been giving the evaluation (for the annual proficiency flight that they were reported to have been undertaking) and likely was therefore not at the controls, or in a position to take positive control of the helicopter to prevent the collison before it was too late. So there's added pressure when under eval or on a proficiency check ride. But none of this seems to explain a mid air collision on a clear night with air traffic control in contact with both aircraft and which, presumably both had some form of on board collision Avoidance system and sensors and instruments that all should have worked in concert to ensure this was not possible. So it's either fowl play, or the NTSB investigation will reveal something else that will hopefully drive new safety regualtions and policies. Like, maybe, dont fly your helicopter into active commercial airport airspace while airplanes are on active final approach to land...
Final thoughts, only time will tell what really happened. And hopefully they release the black box data and audio so we know for sure, but this one just seems very strange to me and should have been preventable. But I still want to know why the helo appears to speed up and purposefully perform a controlled flight into another aircraft that was in no position to maneuver or avoid it, and which just so happened to have several Russian nationals on board... (also a weird coincidence/fact, just saying)
