inn upgrades, unlocked skills, anyhting? I'm not loving it so far (really like standard confession version), but was hoping there'd be some motivator to keep a run going until it is done.

1st bioactive terrarium! (now and before) Hi yall! This is the new terrarium I built for my milkfrog Iggy. Is there something that should be added? The wall was made using a clay-like dirt, specific for terrariums (idk how it is actually capable of sustaining such a big branch lol). The water bowl (pretty big too) is in the quarantine-ish tank I made for the lil guy to let the plants settle. I've also added a growing light for the plants, which has blue/red leds and a spraying sistem. (Don't come at me I didn't have enough money to buy all that stuff at once lmaoo)

2025.01.30 21:35 Fabulous_Ask_4069 When Do You Stop Repairing a Car and Say Goodbye?

I drive a 2015 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design Platinum (Polestar Tune) with around 150,000 miles. I’ve owned the car outright for three years, having purchased it in 2019 with 40,000–50,000 miles.
While I love the car, it’s becoming a money pit, and I’m questioning whether the increasingly expensive repairs and maintenance are worth it. Over the six years I’ve owned it, I’ve spent about $12,000 on maintenance and repairs. I’ve been taking it to the dealer because the only European mechanic in my area is just as expensive, and other options are located 80+ miles away.
My most recent repair bill was around $5,500 for rear brakes, a new radiator reservoir, serpentine belt, spark plugs, tie rods, and 120,000-mile maintenance.
Now, I suspect the AC compressor is failing (strong vibrations and inconsistent airflow), along with potential issues with the driveshaft and solenoid valves. I also think it’s time for new struts and shocks.
The car occasionally won’t shift out of park, and acceleration to highway speeds or driving on side roads feels rough and less responsive, especially when the AC is on. As of this week, I’ve noticed a strong gas/burning smell when I turn the air on. The check engine light comes on and off, staying illuminated for hours or even days. There’s also considerable vibration, regardless of whether the AC is running.
I’m unsure if these repairs are even considered major. I’d greatly appreciate any advice, particularly regarding the car’s potential longevity and whether it’s worth continuing to invest in it.

2025.01.30 21:35 Interesting_Lab2068 2 years ago my tsh was 2.11 and my t4 was 9.9

2 years ago I had a blood test for my general health and my tsh was 2.11 and my t4 was 9.9. No one ever talked to me about my blood work even when my cholesterol was high and so were some other things. I’ve recently lost about 30 pounds over the last 6 months through diet and exercise and notice that my cheeks are just constantly puffy. Some days are better than others though. I looked back at an old photo from around the time I had blood work done and my face looked like it was about to explode my cheeks were so puffy. I also have narcolepsy so it’s hard to tell if my thyroid contributes to my tiredness. Are these levels concerning? I have blood work tomorrow for my thyroid also because I’ve been concerned.

I have been taking Seroquel for around 6 years, Currentlyon 150mg. My Dr recently prescribed me Quiviviq to help with sleep but I'm quite nervous as both have sedating effects (side note, I also have Fibromylagia, a chronic condition that can severe fatigue). I'm also really worried because I heard it can cause Sleep Paralysis, Which I have experienced before and never ever want to experience again. I am interested to hear if anybody else takes this mixture of medications, what the experience has been and if you would also share these concerns?

2025.01.30 21:35 Alpha-golf-hotel I-485 RFE for Sponsor's Tax Returns – Need Advice on What to Submit

Hey everyone,
I recently received an RFE (Request for Evidence) from USCIS regarding my I-485 Adjustment of Status application. The RFE states that the petitioning sponsor (my wife) must submit a complete federal income tax return for the most recent tax year.
Background: My wife (the sponsor) was a full-time student from 2021 to 2023. She filed her tax returns for 2021 and 2022 but did not file for 2023 because she had no income that year. I submitted my I-485 at the end of 2024, and USCIS sent the RFE in January 2025.
My Questions:
Which tax year is USCIS asking for?
Since tax returns are filed for the previous year, does this mean they are asking for 2023’s return (filed in 2024)? Or would they require 2024’s return (filed in 2025) since they sent the RFE this year?
What I’m Planning to Provide:
My wife’s 2021 and 2022 tax returns (which she filed). A written explanation stating that she was a full-time student in 2023 and had no filing requirement.
A graduation certificate showing her enrollment dates. Will this be enough for USCIS?
If USCIS does not accept this explanation, what happens next?
Will they give me another opportunity to provide more evidence, or could my application be denied?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, how did you handle it?
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

2025.01.30 21:35 Speedbird87 RECAP: Infamous Koito Aircraft Seats Scandal

RECAP: Infamous Koito Aircraft Seats Scandal The Koito Aircraft Seats Scandal was a major aviation safety scandal that emerged in 2010 when it was discovered that Koito Industries, a Japanese manufacturer of aircraft seats, had falsified safety test results for thousands of seats installed in commercial aircraft worldwide.
Key Issues in the Scandal: Fabricated Safety Test Results:
Koito admitted to manipulating test data for over 150,000 aircraft seats installed in 32 airlines globally. This included falsified results for crashworthiness, fire resistance, and structural integrity.
Unauthorized Testing Methods:
The company skipped required safety tests and fabricated results to make it seem like the seats met aviation safety standards. Some test reports were altered, while others were entirely fabricated.
Regulatory Violations:
Koito violated certification requirements under Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), FAA (USA), and EASA (Europe) regulations. Instead of performing actual 16g dynamic tests (which simulate crash conditions), the company faked compliance data.
Scope of the Issue:
The seats were installed in Boeing and Airbus aircraft, affecting airlines across Japan, the U.S., Europe, and other regions. Some airlines affected included All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), and several international carriers.
Consequences of the Scandal: Grounding and Replacement of Seats:
Airlines had to inspect and replace affected seats, causing disruptions. Some aircraft were temporarily grounded due to safety concerns.
Regulatory Actions & Company Fallout:
Koito was forced to halt seat production and was banned from further certification approvals. The JCAB and FAA launched extensive investigations. The scandal severely damaged Koito’s reputation, and the company eventually exited the aircraft seating business.
Industry-Wide Impact:
The scandal led to stricter oversight of aircraft seat manufacturers. Regulatory bodies increased audits and verification of test data for aviation suppliers.
The Koito aircraft seats scandal had a lasting impact on the aircraft seating industry, leading to stricter regulations, increased scrutiny, and a shift in the market landscape.
Here’s how it changed the industry:
1. Stricter Certification & Compliance Oversight
  • Regulatory agencies (FAA, EASA, JCAB) tightened oversight of aircraft seat manufacturers.
  • More frequent audits were conducted on seat suppliers to ensure genuine safety testing.
  • Enhanced documentation requirements were introduced, with regulators demanding more transparency in testing and certification processes.
  • Some regulators mandated third-party verification of test results rather than allowing manufacturers to self-certify.
2. Increased Costs & Lead Times for Certification
  • Airlines and seat manufacturers had to redo tests for compliance, increasing costs and delays in aircraft seat programs.
  • Airlines became more cautious when selecting seat suppliers, focusing on manufacturers with strong certification records.
  • Certification processes, especially for dynamic 16g tests, flammability, and HIC (Head Injury Criterion) tests, became more rigorous and time-consuming.
3. Shift in Market Landscape
  • Koito’s exit from the aircraft seating market opened opportunities for other manufacturers.
  • Established seating suppliers like Recaro, Safran (Zodiac at the time), Collins Aerospace, and Geven gained market share.
  • New entrants into the market had to prove strict compliance with certification standards, making it harder for smaller players to compete.
4. Airlines Became More Involved in Supplier Oversight
  • Airlines tightened their supplier approval processes, requiring deeper due diligence before selecting a seat vendor.
  • Some airlines demanded independent safety verification before approving seat programs.
  • Airlines became more skeptical of low-cost seat providers, focusing on reputation and reliability rather than just price.
5. Digitalization & Transparency in Testing
  • The industry moved toward digital record-keeping for safety test reports to prevent manipulation.
  • Seat manufacturers started implementing blockchain and automated systems to track and verify test data.
  • More reliance on independent labs for certification, rather than in-house testing that could be manipulated.
6. Reputation Damage & Trust Issues
  • The scandal made OEMs, airlines, and lessors more cautious about supplier credibility.
  • Aircraft manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing increased scrutiny of seat suppliers and their supply chain transparency.
  • The case served as a warning to other suppliers that falsifying safety data would lead to severe consequences.
7. Long-Term Effects on Seat Supply & Demand
  • Airlines sought alternative seat suppliers, leading to delays in fleet retrofits and deliveries.
  • The backlog of aircraft seat orders increased, and airlines had to reassess their long-term seating strategies.
  • The demand for fully certified and reliable seating solutions increased, giving premium seating manufacturers a competitive edge.
Final Outcome: By 2012, Koito had withdrawn from the aviation seating industry completely. The scandal remains one of the biggest aviation safety fraud cases, highlighting the risks of lax certification processes and the importance of genuine compliance with safety regulations.
Conclusion: A More Transparent and Stringent Industry While the Koito scandal was damaging, it ultimately forced the industry to improve. The aircraft seating sector became:
  • More regulated
  • More transparent
  • More technologically advanced in compliance tracking
  • More cautious in supplier selection
This case remains a benchmark for regulatory enforcement in aviation, ensuring that safety remains the top priority in aircraft interiors.

2025.01.30 21:35 Salty-Commission-874 21, law related degree, don’t know if I want law school

Nearly failed high school due to personal home circumstances that have severely affected my self esteem, but thankfully I was still able to graduate. I decided to go to the only college that accepted me at the time (thank god for SAT optional admissions) , except it’s out-of-state and it costed a lot to go there. I entered undecided, still not sure on what I wanted to do. I couldn’t have transferred to the school’s Comp Sci program because it was super competitive. My family friend tried nudging me into pursuing law, and I thought the idea of it was interesting, so I pursued a major in Philosophy Politics and Law. I graduated with a 3.97 GPA and I’m now having to study for the LSAT. It is brutal and for my diagnostic test, I didn’t even finish all of the questions. I’m still studying and it feels like I’m not cut out for this test. The test is indirectly telling me, “Sorry, but you’re not who we’re looking for.” It’s making me really reconsider if I want to pursue law school, but I feel like I have an obligation to pursue that path now with the degree I have. I don’t know what to do with my life now. I wish I was able to sharpen my coding skills and go into Comp Sci for a job in that field, but I tried sticking it out with the law path, and it’s just not working. Please help.
