2025.01.31 04:58 hostelissues7673 Hostel refusing to pay after clearing out my entire storage unit without permission
Loooong prompt.
I am an international student studying in Australia and is staying in one of their student hostels.
I was informed that my apartment would be undergoing toilet renovations and tenants were to move out as of 18th December. We were told to clear out all items in our rooms and kitchen as though we were moving out. Granted that we would only be temporarily relocated to another unit nearby and we would be moving back in once renovations were completed. Prior to moving, I also made the effort to make my way to the office and asked them about the procedures. I mentioned that since the relocation is temporary, I would be keeping most of my things in the storage unit. The staff said, and I quote "that's smart, I never even considered that". As such, I stored majority of my belongings within the storage units in my original apartment. These units are assigned to each individual rooms, it is locked and I hold the key.
At no point did I ever state or imply that I would be moving over to the new unit, staying there, and not moving back.
Next, as I would be flying off from the 27th January and returning on 9th of February, I understand that I would not be able to move back in time as the renovations were scheduled to be completed by 31st of January. I made enquiries about any alternatives at the office to rectify this problem. I was informed that should the renovations be completed before my flight, I could simply move back into my old room early (Friday 24th December). If not, I could also store my belongings in the office for the time being.
On the 24th of December I made my way to the office to check about the status of the renovations, I was then informed that there was some miscommunication or oversight and that there were complications with the piping in my toilet and as such it was left untouched. No renovations were done and yet I had to move out. Regardless, I chalked it up to human error but hey, silver lining, I can move back before my flight.
I started moving my things back in and as I was about to take things out of my store, it has been completely emptied out. It did not occur to me to take a picture of all of my belongings in the storage because I could not have imagined this happening.
After emailing the office about it and them making their own investigation. They confirmed that my items have all been unfortunately cleared out during the cleaning process, all they had to offer a 50$ voucher.
Here are some extra points:
- Wording from the official email stated that (All belongings should be packed and ready to move by the specified time. We kindly ask that you remove all of your belongings, including all personal belongings from the kitchen and common areas.) Nothing was mentioned about the storage unit.
- Regarding the conversation I had with the staff about whether I am allowed to store my items in the storage unit, I do not have written proof. It was verbal
- Leading up to 24th December (before I moved back in), I made multiple trips to the office to check on the status. They asked if I would prefer to just stay in my new room and not move back. I said no, I would be moving back. The staff knows very clearly I would be moving back in, they knew my room number and by association the storage unit tied to it. Yet somehow, the cleaners were still instructed to clear out everything.
If you have read everything above, I commend you. My belongings in that storage unit was at bare minimum $1,000. I refuse to let things slid and the 50$ voucher was insulting. But I do not know how to proceed and without written proof of my conversation with the staff, my case is weak. Please advise.

So it was the New year eve and I got sick pretty bad just the day before it. He didn't make any plans, but at the last moment his friends asked him out for a dinner, so we stayed at home together, had lunch and later he left for dinner, I told him not to worry about me, have fun, celebrate and come back after the countdown or so, when the dinner is over. I just stayed in bed for the whole evening, as I couldn't really do anything else as I still felt bad. At midnight he started to send me videos of him being in karaoke with his friends. When I asked him before the dinner what were the plans for tonight he said it was just the simple dinner and that's all. I guess his friends decided to have more fun and went to karaoke after dinner. I felt a bit sad about him not coming back home after dinner, but I didn't say anything. He just said that I shouldn't worry as he's coming back soon. After more that one hour passed and it was 1:30am and I didn't get any text from him since midnight and texted him should I go to sleep first and he said yes. I asked if he's coming back? He said maybe in 20 minutes. So I said if it was me and he was sick I wouldn't do the same and would be back home as soon as possible. He got really mad at me and said that I ruined his New year and he doesn't see the difference between one hour or two hours of him being in karaoke as it's the New Year and everyone is celebrating and he didn't wanna leave his friends without his company so fast, for them it wouldn't be that fun there anymore. As I said that I wouldn't feel sad if he would spend there an hour or so instead of two. So I would know that he wanted to be back home as soon as possible. He said he cared enough about me during the day as we had lunch together and he sent me videos of him singing as he wanted me to feel fun too. He said I was unreasonable and shouldn't feel sad and make him feel bad and I should respect his private time more. Was I wrong about feeling sad and let him know how did I feel?

So I'm currently learning Python and doing Hack the Box Academy. I have an IT degree but the job market is shit so I'm having trouble finding a job. I think my first actual job will probably be at Synack but I also may hopefully get a job at an MSP.
My first guess, is that I would aim to know Python, JS, C, C++, PHP, BASH, PS, in addition to SQL, NoSQL, and maybe another DB language. And
If I go into Synack, then Python will be a useful first language because its the best language to start with if you wanna be a pentester. Its also considered the most commonly used language in IT, which means after I graduate from any MSP I'll be able to put it as an additional thing on my resume. I know that much.
But the question is, how many languages should I learn overall for IT or for cybersecurity?
So my question is, how many languages should I know for my career? I have a CCNA and A+ certification. I'm a Kubuntu Linux user. I'm working on my CPTS from Hack the Box Academy. I'm learning Python because I know its a good language for hacking and pentesting. I also know as a backup career, its good for network engineering.
Now, the sources I read tend to say 3 to 5 languages. Does that sound accurate? When I look on Hack the Box's official blog, C and C++ are not listed as languages that penetration testers need to know but I know for cybersecurity and hacking, those are good languages to know according to other blogs and my cybersecurity teacher when I talked to him about this back at uni (I'm a recent university graduate).

Red rashes and sometimes bumps keep randomly appearing on my foreskin with no cause that I can think off as I have been using non fragrance and safe for rash soaps shampoos, etc. The rashes/bumps are also not dry.
I apply 0.5% hydrocortisone cream when it gets really bad which seems to get rid of the rash ( also thins the skin but I know it may be too strong for me), but it always comes back a couple days later. Salt water and heavy sweating also seems to flare it up really bad and makes the foreskin puff up and rashes appear.
I thought I might as well try and get some suggestions to what it could be first before paying for a dermatologist, Thank you if you try to help!

I’ve been living in my apartment for about 9 months. I currently live in Dallas & we recently had low temps & snow. During that time I saw one roach, never had bugs in the apartment ever. The bug was dead prior to me noticing so I got the apartment cleaned up & sprayed. Now suddenly 20 days after that, for the past FOUR DAYS I’ve been seeing roaches like crazy!! The very first day I saw a total of 5 even one in my kitchen! The weather has warmed up a lot within the past few days but my god I’ve never seen these many before. I just recently saw one in my bedroom. I’m starting to feel like I’m walking into an infestation. Complex had someone come in spray, use roach bait & set up glue traps it seems to be doing nothing or maybe I need to wait to see a difference. Any thoughts on what I should do??!! I’m ready to end my lease!

IT cooliees should forgo their right to crib about Bengaluru traffic. Took me 1 hr to travel 15km on the ORR. One thing stood out are cooliees with their huge single seater SUVs hogging up multiple lanes. Nakkan atleast carpool madroo? Everyone's trying to show-off their huge cars idk. Also office cabs with just one or two passengers. Why do companies even offer such services? The should just offer shuttle service not give each a personal chauffeurs.
