2025.02.01 22:00 Hizzdiscordkitten [In Progress] [1000] [romance] Chasing Melody
My heart feels like it is going to thump right out of my chest as Melodie quickly changes out of her heels, sliping on more comfortable ones. Beside her, her niece sits on the floor next to her chair and slips her own feet into the heels, and they both giggle.
I can't back out now, I can't do that to her. She's been so excited and practically begged me to do this with her.
My lips curl up at the thought of all the persuasion tactics she used, but we both knew I wasn’t going to say no to her.
I hear the squeal of a mic turn on, and the music stops.
"Hello, everyone!" I hear off by the dance floor, and everyone looks towards the woman in her late 20s in a lilac dress and half updo "I don't know how Melody convinced him you guys, but Ethan agreed , and the newly weds would like to share their choreographed dance in just a few short moments" Alice, Melody's best friend shares with the crowd.
Our family and friends share a playful laugh and cheer, and Alice says a few nice words.
"You ready?" Melody asks, as she passes me a glass of champagne
"Yes, babe" I tell her, and we both empty our glasses.
"Oh, here they are now" Alice says, noticing us at the door, signaling a thumbs up.
"Please allow me to introduce to you, Mrs and Mr Evans, she says, then nods to the do
"Thank you, Ethan" Melody says, and her smile lights up her face and reaches her golden brown eyes. This may be the happiest I've seen her ever, and I know i won't forg-
"Boom! Boob" I hear from the mic I take one hand off of Melody's waist, and turn to face the mic
Alice is there, trying to reach over a woman to take back the Mic, while the guests look around confused.
"Evan!?" I hear through muffled tears A woman witj wavy long red hair is standing there in a casual outfit, a t-shirt and jeans.
I do not know this woman.
"Uh, is everything ok?" I ask
"Even" she let's out again through heavy breathing.
I give her a moment to calm herself.
"Do you know her?" Melody whispers, looking up to me.
"I'm sorry, I- it's your wedding I know- timing, ahh" this woman says flustered. Her face turns red and she looks around at everyone, and looks hurt and embarrassed.
"Mam, do you need medical attention"? My dad asks her from his seat
She looks at him for a long second, then back to me, then Melody, and me again, then swallows.
"You really don't know me huh" she says, but it's not a question
"Babe, it's me, Sarah" she says, but looks around reading the room full of gasps and sighs.
"No, no, babe I really I swear I don't know her" I say panicked
"I know" Melody says, as she puts a reassuring hand on mine
"Look, I am so sorry you're having a hard time Sarah" Melody tells her, but her voice cracks and she's shaking "but this", she continues "this is my wedding day, and this is my husband"
"Melody Simmons" the red headed girl says to my wife.
I look at Melody, and she seems taken aback drawing her had to her chest.
"Listen, I know it strange, I'm sorry, I promise I'll leave.. in just- in just a minute, but you know, that technology that's all over the news lately?" The woman asks as she pinches her fingers together.
Of course we know. We all know. "Dynamictravel", once a company specialized in trip planning all over the world to the most unique remote areas dropped a "bombshell". The most recent headlines say "Travel to alternate realities likely possible as soon as one year with ground breaking new technology".
Lots of people ate that garbage up and believe it, but It's the usual predatory "click bait" title that misleads people. No one in their right mind actually believes it!
"Well, it's real- and well, I'm not exactly from here. I Traveled through Dynamic Travel's pilot program. I switched places witj myself!" Sara says
"Rediculous" I say under my breath as I reach for my phone to call the cops and get this nut job out of here
"You- you called me-"
"Melody Simmons" Sarah tells Melody
"Simmons" she says, and her fingertips touch her lips. Her eyes trail off looking more distant.
Sarah hands Alice the Mic, then walks over, the room is now roaring in debate. Some in disbelief and others the opposite.
"I'm so sorry" Sarah says, and she cautiously goes in to hug Melody, who looks like she's going to fall to her knees
"He's alive there?" Melody asks, as she falls into Sarah's arms. Melody looks equally parts haunted and hopeful.
"Babe?" I ask, but Melody looks down with a look of shame, then she starts whailing as Sarah lowers her to sit on the floor.

I believe that maintenance jobs will be the one of the last jobs to go because of AI.
Because its incredibly complex and you need a humanoid that is as intelligent and as capable as a human being. So in that way we are safe
But before that other jobs will be lost and hence people won't have money to fly on airplanes.
Which is also bad for the mechanics as there won't be demand for them....

2025.02.01 22:00 Davefish123 Starting from literally 0 at 30... what is the best way forward?
Long story short, bad choices in my 20s have left me with nothing to show for myself at 30, and I beat myself up every day about it. I moved out after lockdown for the sake of my own sanity with no money behind me and still find myself stuck in this cycle. I am constantly living paycheck to paycheck, with very little disposable income to play with each month. Moving back home isn't an option as there is no room for me anymore, each of my parents have a 1-bed flat and I have my own furniture in the flat I rent.
I work as a project coordinator currently, and I am not sure the next step up, project management, is for me. I have no degree, no trade, no apprenticeship qualifications. I am full of regrets about not being smarter and getting qualified in something when I was younger and living at home, but I can't go back, only forward. I would be lying if I said I wasn't feeling low, dejected and borderline hopeless. I feel like my energy to keep going is dwindling.
What can I do in the immediate short-term and what are some good career options to consider retraining for, bearing in mind I am fully independent and have rent and bills to pay? I am exhausted of living on survival mode and want to start living, even if it's a long road ahead.

I (46m) have been married for a number of years and always had an odd relationship with sex. I was pretty avoidant because I struggled with my connection to sex. I enjoyed making my partner pleased but always stressed about being pleased or having the macho male sex persona who is a sex maniac - I am not. I have quite a few self image issues. But this all has come to a head in my marriage, creating resentment and rejection.
In couples therapy and my own sex therapy. The former has helped us better communicate and the latter has been really great at finding appropriate labels for me. Predominantly cupio and orchid.
But even with these revelations, my partner, who is allo, is so saddened and distrusting. We have other issues that contribute to this distrust and skepticism on their part. They also don’t really understand the ace spectrum and fear I’m using it as a crutch or excuse. I don’t blame them for it. I am just terrified of the marriage dissolving.
My hope is these labels will start to improve each other’s perspective and bring us closer. But right now, it feels like every time I have some inner revelations, it reverberates into marital damage. I’m trying to be transparent but I feel like I’m doing harm.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? Any advice would be helpful.
