2025.02.02 00:41 Agent-Disastrous AITAH for not wanting to drive 16+ hours with a (maybe) 4 week old?
Every year we (my husband, me, SIL and her husband) try to make an effort to go back to our home state for my BIL’s birthday. He is 24 but very special needs, so mentally he’s more like 6. His birthday is in July. I am due with our first baby in the middle of June. My MIL asked us a few weeks ago if we are coming in July for his bday. My initial reaction was absolutely not, we are not driving 16+ hours with a 4 week old, and that’s IF she comes on time. Her, my SIL and some other family members keep saying I’m being dramatic, it’s not that big of a deal, it’s not that hard, all they do is sleep, etc. None of them have ever traveled with a newborn before so I’m already annoyed that they are saying these things with no experience nor are they they ones having to do so. This is my first child so I have no idea how I will be postpartum or how handling a newborn is in general, let alone in a car for 16+ hours. That is just the time it usually takes, not including stopping to breastfeed safely every few hours as well. Also, that can’t be good for her to just sit there in a car seat that long either, can it? I understand our tradition, but it’s not like I just don’t want to, I feel like that long of a trip with a newborn is absurd and a lot to ask. I also am not really loving the idea of everyone playing hot potato with my child so early considering my husband has a very large (and very loving) family who all “can’t wait to hold and squeeze her”. I looked into flying and as of now flights are in the $500’s, and I also don’t want my child with no immune system in a plane. AITAH?

I don’t have a lot of experience with older wines in my 6-year wine journey. My wife works part time at a wine shop, so whenever a 1979 bottle comes in for consignment (our birth year), we snatch it up. This one’s been sitting in our collection for 18 months and decided to open it up for my 45th birthday. This is my first older Bordeaux (+30 years), so I was excited especially since I’ve almost exclusively been drinking Bordeaux for the better part of the last 2 years.
Shoulder level was excellent, didn’t look like it had lost much if any. Upon removing the foil, the top of the cork looked very good. Extracting it with the Durand, it was well preserved and in-tact with no breakage. All of these signs pointed to this being something special. Minimal sediment. Did not decant.
Fruit still very present. Smooth, light to tongue. Silky smooth tannins Lush grapes, floral notes of rose and tulips. Cassis, blackberry, wet gravel as is par for the course. Light acidity.
What struck me were the tannins. I had heard the descriptive of “smooth tannins” but didn’t realize what that meant until I had this wine. Unbelievably drinkable 45 years in. I wanted to swim in it.
I had low expectations going in as most notes on 1979 tend to be on the “just okay” side, but it was breathtaking to me. I should really engulf myself into older Bordeaux. I loved every sip and thanked my wife profusely for getting the bottle. We have a 1979 Ducru-Beaucaillou cellared and I hope it lives up to what we had here.

2025.02.02 00:41 Stock-Bus5411 Agent in China is threatening me
My previous agent and her colleague is making it difficult for me to secure a job in China. My previous agent is making her colleague do all the communication. So, she got me an interview with a school in China, and they sent me contract which I signed, after 2 weeks, that school did not send the signed contract (from the school) back to me. And they started to change the terms and conditions on the contract, therefore I had to terminate this contract. After a some time, a new agent got me an interview with another school. I got the contract, signed it and the school signed it as well. All was going well, till my first agents colleague started threatening me. He also phoned the school who wanted to employ me and kept worrying them each day which lead them to cancel the contract. I had a remaining amount of RMB 1400 to pay to the old agent for translation fees before the end of April 2025, my sister sent the payment via WeChat but the recruiter declined the payment. This agent then proceeded to send a law suit to me, but it was just a printed out letter from his agency and not from a law firm (he has no grounds to file a lawsuit, and I have proof of all WeChat messages and what was said)
This recruiter then proceeded to call me yesterday and said he doesn’t want the translation fee, the only way to move is if is let his agency find me a job and I pay an agency fee of RMB 6000, and if I don’t do this then he said he will keep checking the work permit application system for my name, and see for the school that employs me and worry them. So I asked this agent why is he threatening me and he said and I quote “I am not threatening you, i will actually do it”. I don’t know if he will be spreading false information about me but his threats are making is difficult for me to get a job.
When this whole situation started, I contacted a lawyer who helps out teachers in China, I explained the whole case to him, and the lawyer also knows about the call and threats, and the lawyer said that whatever this agent is doing would not be legal.
Any advice on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has been stressing me out, I am a first time applicant as well.
