2025.02.02 00:42 Shananigans15 What do y’all want for P.E.

I’m a grade 3-8 p.e. teacher so what a 3rd grade class is into (stations) an 8th class will NOT be into (free time bball and volleyball circles.) I’ve also tried kickball which is soooo easy for me, but can be overwhelming for subs due to the nature of having to call safes and outs and deal with disagreements due to competition. I could leave dodgeball, but if a kid gets hurt that could be drama. I could leave confusing games that the kids know, but I’m worried it would overwhelm subs. A few years ago I could leave anything and kids would just be good, but we all know schools and kids have changed.
What do y’all want to do when you come into my gym??? I am in a city school with a nice gym and tons of equipment, but no outdoor space. Easy schedule. Kids are generally well behaved, fights are almost never, whether or not they wanna act up is a hit or miss. Classes are 45-50 minutes. I always practice sub plans before too… “this is what you’ll do if I have a sub and these are the expectations.”Thanks in advance!!

2025.02.02 00:42 AuraTalePlays I can't stand them anymore and I hope they leave before we have a child

In 2021, someone purchased the next door property to us using a bank loan. For context, this is in Texas.
At first, it was okay. I kind of figured I wouldn't get along with them and just minded my own business from them. They just seemed off to me at the time, and I couldn't really tell why. Well, almost four years later and I know why I don't now.
When they first moved in, they had 3 dogs and 3 kids. Neat, so they're responsible... even though they have a giant SUV and leave their dogs outside all the time. (Coyotes are common here and the road we live on is a 55mph road.) Summer of 2021, they got a large above ground pool and used it a few times.
When the weather got coldish, the unused pool was left open to the elements. Before the year ended, one of their dogs passed away by getting hit on the road. That's okay, they got another dog that Christmas.
In early 2022, my fiance at the time and I moved into the now finished 1 bedroom house that her grandparents began renting to us. The house is situated in the back and right next to the neighbors yard. As soon as we moved back there, the neighbors mowed the back area and made their backyard extend pretty far and made it look nice. And then, one day while chilling with our two cats, my fire said she smelled smoke. I look outside and see a big burn pile about 20ft from our house. I had to turn off our bedroom window unit that was literally down wind from it, get our cats into the living space, and close the bedroom door. This was in the middle of summer, so with only the one window unit in the living space, it eventually got up to 90 degrees inside.
At first, I thought maybe this would be a one off situation after clearing the land. But it wasn't. They burned again as my allergy season kicked in and I got sick for 3 days. I told my fiance's grandparents and they talked to the neighbors about it. They did stop burning there... when we were home.
That summer, their first pool turned into broken pool, so they got a brand new above ground pool. They did use it a few times, but then it got stormy in July, so that was that. Another dog by this time died, and then they got a new dog. The first dog and the newest dog were so very annoying and would constantly kill chickens that my fiance's uncle owned on the property. They would also scare off our outdoor cat too.
BOOM! I wake up from a nap one day, and I look around as to what just happen. Boom! Great. So the man has a gun. And of course, he is firing it right outside our house. Hunting season is great and all, but firing your gun so close us is not, especially since my now wife at this point gets triggered by guns and gunfire.
2023 rolls around and my great grandma in law (who by this point lives in a trailer house on the property) takes in their 2nd dog during the cold harsh nights and feeds him. Oh yeah, they don't really feed their non hunting dogs and leave all their dogs outside no matter how cold it gets. But eventually, they do give the big dog to my great grandma in law. And then they get another dog, a German shephard.
The dog being loose all the time gets a chicken or two from time to time. And sometimes it chases the cat around. It does not get along well with great grandma in laws dog.
Their pool is in disrepair, so they get someone to fix it and then they use it once. It sits for the rest of the year without use.
Great grandma in law passes at the end of the year, so now her dog gets taken by mother in law, so now he is safe from the neighbor dogs. Sadly, our outdoor cat passes away a month later... to this day, I suspect it was them... I miss him.
The man shoots his gun. Starts burning while we are at home again. And they let their kids play on the broken trampoline and outside all on their own. Kids are between 7 to 11 at this time and they get hurt often when they go out. Pretty sure one ended up getting pneumonia after being in 50 degree weather while wearing nothing but underwear.
So 2024 rolls around. Fires. Guns. Kids. A new pool. And then two of the dogs they have bite people. They kill both those dogs. Then they get 2 new pups that look like German shephards but aren't. They kill chickens, go home. After doing this a few times, they get one of our other neighbors chickens. They put the pups on proximity shock collars and we start to hear them yelp from time to time.
By summer of 2024, my wife and I move into the trailer house that her great grandma in law lived in. Their fire no longer bothers us, but now the gunman fires his gun in a new spot... by our new house. Fun... it sounds louder.
They got a new pool since the other one degraded into the ground, but this one is just a kiddie pool. A new trampoline. Their golf cart gets repoed. They get new toys and sport stuff and continue to leave them in the yard. Essentially their backyard is a mess by this point.
Oh! And a Doberman now! Oops, the one dog ate the neighbors chicken now that the shock collar stopped working, so they kill the dog.
More gun fire. More fire. Even when new people rent out the small house we once lived in.
I'm just so tired of it. They're irresponsible, loud, and just annoying. We have talked them a few times about the gunfiring and fires. But we don't want to be rude and ask them to stop altogether. Their property extends way past the houses we live in, but they never use it. The rifle he fires is always fired right by us and it's so loud and scares us every time.
By the looks of it though, they may not be here for too much longer. They haven't been paying their loan and they're not real responsible with money. If the bank were to see the house and yard, I'm sure they'd take it back. So yeah, I give it a about 2 to 3 years... but still, it's just annoying.
My wife and I are trying for a baby and we are afraid the gun firing will upset our future baby.. and the pregnancy as it triggers my wife. So when she is pregnant, I will be asking that he fires the gun further down the property line.
So. To sum it up: They have had 10 dogs in the last 4 years. Three pools, three trampolines (1 of each degrading in their backyard.) Fired guns several dozen times. Fired fire by the small house at least a dozen times. And have left so many things out in their yard. Who knows how many chickens their dogs have gotten to, and potentially our out door cat.
We've never called the cops BTW, mostly because the mom over there has a dad in the police force. But also cause I don't own the property we live on and feel it wouldn't be fair to be the one to call them. I just don't want to get them in trouble. Also, if they did end up getting a charge, they would definitely lose the property and I don't want to be responsible for that.
Idk. It's just exhausting and I needed to vent this. Thanks for listening.

2025.02.02 00:42 cypsee Someone asked me to go more in depth about what I loved about this game. So I'm doing that. Spoilers and autism abound.

The game, as I said in my previous post, changed me. The specifics of that are hard to pin down. But what I CAN comment on are these primary virtues.
1. A twist done right - simplify the story, brutalize the audience
The twist of signalis is emotionally oppressive, even flattening. And it achieves this not through its pervasive grimness but through the way it takes the complex and undefinable, ephemeral events of the prior story and condenses them into a singular harsh reality. The fact of its simplicity opens the player to the full breadth of its emotional impact so effectively because it takes all of their intrigued musings and theories and narrows the scope of the story into a knife point. My face FELL re-entering the penrose. My heart rate was above 120 when I read the 'I lost another tooth' paper. It is probably the single most effective twist in media I've experienced for the aforementioned reason.
2. Subtle sub-textuality and narrative streamlining
This is clearly a game that feels like it's talking about a lot. It avoids cluttering the narrative with talking points through its intelligent use of subtext. One major example is I think the replikas and their design is a commentary on workplace culture and the objectification of women. I know a lot of the fanbase finds replikas attractive but personally I was always kind of grossed out by the cultural implications of their design and how it spoke to the real world. Reflecting on this discussion of femininity was something I found helpful and constructive when digesting the rest of the game, but it was conveyed in such a way that it did nothing to obscure or muddy the primary topics of its discussion. You decide how crazy you want to get over it.
3. References and reflection on real-world art reinforce the imagined world's realism
As a diehard evangelion fan I was obviously hooked by the visual language in some of the game's more 'unreal' segments. But this got me thinking about the overall employment of references and real-world media. I find this aspect of the game to do a brilliant job at subtly reinforcing the surreal feeling of the game's imagined world. The art we consume really does have staying power in our minds and this presence of real-world art felt quite well-placed. I dream about the books I read, the games I play. If I had to battle through my own mind, there would be evangelion references everywhere too.
4. The power of the mind as a hostile force
[compartmentalizing trauma]
Signalis evocatively displays the inner conflict of its protagonist through the positioning of its characters. Internal and external coalesce into one raging personal war. The facility and rotfront being recontextualised into figments of Elster's inner world do a stirring job at representing the raw power and scale of the subconscious mind in a way that adds to its horror. Can we truly know ourselves? Can we ever prevent something within ourselves from trying to backpedal, inhibit us, destroy us? Signalis reduces you to a minnow in the ocean of the mind. Not only does this add to the powerfully affecting determination of its protagonist, but it does a soundly above-average job at externalising inner conflict. In this compartmentalized and distracted age I find it to be an extremely necessary narrative to tell and the awe it inspired in me is one of the primary artistic inspirations it left me with. Psychological horror, but ACTUALLY psychological horror. You contain unknowable volumes. You are your own cosmic horror.
5. The hedgehog's dilemma
"Finally, I am me. But you are no longer you. Perhaps, this is hell."
This part requires personal lore. In short, I grew up obsessed with romance. My dysfunctional family provided me with the space needed to completely miswire my perception of interpersonality, especially relationships. I was a thoroughly delusional child and it is taking a very long time to walk back the mental connections I incorrectly made. Signalis, much like evangelion, speaks to an unspoken reality of human existence; that there is no fairy-tale romance and there is no interpersonality without some form of border. To achieve a shared existence is something with the possibility for great beauty but should never be taken lightly and should never be ascribed some divine, inherent 'perfectness'. The utter horror and destructiveness of Signalis' central romance speaks to the sacrifices inherent in achieving a personal bond, the dangers which we see play out so often in the relationships of those around us through an unwillingness to face the reality of connection, and the underlying horror present in the statement "to be loved is to be changed". At the intersection between people, what creature emerges?
6. Classic survival horror steeze
Signalis isn't just a narrative I find beautiful. It's tailored to my exact tastes in terms of what it offers the player. It's a slow, methodical progression towards becoming the master of an environment, learning the favourable reaction to every situation, backtracking, backtracking, strategizing, going back to get the appropriate weapon, Formulating plans, and finally getting into a disastrous combat encounter which leaves you broke and barely alive. Survival horror steeze. The best to ever do it.
(Tony Hawk pro skater special trick 'GANK!' is roughly how I would describe the game.)
7. The radio, my beloved
no notes. The radio is the goated survival horror game mechanic. It's taking all my willpower to not just copy it in my own game.
Anyway yeah. Also this might be a played out gag. But it's hilarious that one of the devs is named Yuri. That might be insensitive but the fact that the game combines German and Japanese, centres on a lesbian romance, and was directed by YURI just feels too funny to be real.
