2025.02.02 02:41 CakeMilk Would the Asus ROG Swift PG27UCDM be good for my case?
Background So I'm interested in getting an OLED monitor, but I have some questions that I can't really find good answers on. So I am a software engineer and I spend 8-12 hours every single day programming, however I do play games and I want good performance. I currently run a triple monitor setup consisting of 3 generations of dell monitors G2724D (main), S2721DGF (right), S2719DGF (left). They aren't bad monitors at all. They're affordable and work well for gaming and look decent, nothing spectacular though. My boss recently bought me an 14" M3 Pro Macbook Pro and I really like the way the display looks and that's why I've been considering upgrading my desktop setup to have an OLED as the main.
My office room has a lot of windows. It's not a big room or anything but essentially an entire wall is windows. Which isn't a bad thing I actually kind of like having a lot of sunlight during the day so I'm not living in darkness my whole life haha. The Dell monitors from my understanding are ~400 nits brightness (at 100% I assume) and I run them all at 95% 24/7 even at night.
What I'm worried about The thing I'm really concerned about is the SDR brightness of OLED monitors and specifically the PG27UCDM which I'm looking at getting. From the reviews I've watched it only goes to ~250nits or so and I'm worried about that being an issue with my current setup during the day. I don't want to have my blinds closed all day long, but I also don't want the monitor to be so dark I can't see or it can't be bright enough to make reflections not be an issue.
I see a lot of people on reddit that preach that 250 nits is good and your eyes will thank you later. I just want you all to spare me that and be honest. Would YOU have a problem with your OLED monitor during the day with an entire wall being windows and the blinds open?
When I look at the M3 pro macbook pro specs it says SDR peaks at 600 nits. I use my macbook 2-4 notches above 50% usually, but will go down to 50% at night or if I want to keep the battery going. But like I can't imagine my desktop monitor being that dark? Even with my Dell G2724D that I use at 95% if 100% is 440 nits then 57% would be around that 250nits mark. If this is seriously how dark OLED monitors are then idk how any of you are using them and I most definitely won't be able to deal with that as a real daily driver. But I'm hoping my naive estimation of (0.57)*440 = 250 is somehow wrong.
I also have an iPhone 15 Pro Max which I guess is supposed to be 1000 nits at 100% brightness. I generally use my phone at 50% brightness but if I'm feeling kinda goofy I might bump that up to around 60-65%. I just can't imagine my main desktop monitor being the same darkness as when I put my phone to like 25% brightness? I mean surely I'm wrong?
Idk I just need some advice and would like to get your opinion on if you'd recommend this monitoOLED in general for my use case of work + gaming or not.
TLDR: Never used OLED before. Program 8-12 hours a day in room with lots of windows and sunlight. Is the 250 nit SDR brightness an issue for this?

2025.02.02 02:41 MissionJoke1593 General Advice Following Death of Father
Dear Redditers,
I am seeking general advice following the death of my father.
He passed away from a drug overdose. He had no will, no "estate" and only me listed of next of kin. After going through his flat post death, I found hundreds of unpaid fines (TfNSW), hundreds of unpaid tolls, and probably more debt/liabilities.
My question is;
2025.02.02 02:41 Yanrogue Who did the decor and set dressing for "Grandma's House"
Who ever did it, did a great job. That retro couch is just top tier and I think every grandma had one of those knitted blankets tossed over those old couches. Not sure what their budget was, but man it looks great.
