2024.11.25 15:36 latrallyidk Is it inappropriate to send a networking message over Instagram?
So I (22) graduated from college back in June and I've been trying to reach out to alumni from my school for some job opportunities/information about their work. I'll do this primarily over email or through LinkedIn since these are all people who graduated years before I ever attended college and I'm contacting them in a professional capacity. I have an old work friend who graduated two years before me and who's doing really well for herself in freelance film work right now (what I want to do) and I want to reach out/ask to catch up, but I feel like doing so through LinkedIn/email would be weirdly formal and cold. I mentioned to my parents that I was going to reach out over Instagram since I lost her number a while ago when I got a new phone and we still interact with each other's posts on there. My parents think this is super unprofessional and that she'd be offended if I did so, but I actually think she'd be way more receptive to this than an email or something. I think that they can't quite grasp that networking over social media, especially with people you already know, is something quite common in my peer group and not considered strange. Maybe I'm in the wrong, though- thoughts?

 | For the last six months, Ive been living in the Rabbit Hole that is Color Analysis. I don’t know how or why the subject captivated me, but my new hyper fixation was locked and loaded. I assumed I was a Summer of some kind, and I knew I was definitely cool-toned, but I wasn’t one hundred percent positive. And as a Type A Neurotic, I needed confirmation. $30 later, and all the thanks in the world to Colors by Kayli, it turns out I’m not a Summer. I’m a Cool (True) Winter. (Insert literally shocked Pikachu face) After I got my Color Analysis results earlier this week, on Saturday I marched my ass over to Nordstrom and had some incredible ladies at various makeup counters show me what I should actually be wearing as a Cool Winter. I swear these women practiced some ancient witchcraft on my face because OH MY GOD. I’ve honestly never felt more beautiful, put together, powerful, and most importantly, myself. I’m officially in my Morticia era, and absolutely loving it. I will never not recommend Color Analysis to figure out what truly makes you shine! Here’s what I’m wearing:

The main premise of the three body novel series is that the trisolarans are coming to invade the planet earth due to the unstable nature of their home planet which is orbits within a 3 body star system.
The thing that struck out to me reading through the novels was their manufacture of the sophons. The creation of the Sophon involves "unfolding" a proton's extra dimensions, turning it into a sheet the width of a planet. Circuits are etched onto the sheet using strong interaction force before the sheet is folded back into a proton (now a quantum computer).
To me this seems like something only a kardashev 1 or above civilization can do. Which brings me to my main point, which is if they have the ability to create sophons, wouldn’t they also be able to produce a series of Dyson spheres to make their home planet habitable within the three body star system? Or even just a single Dyson sphere around their home planet to shield it from the unpredictable nature of their star system. Etching circuits on a planetary sized surface seems like it would already require self replicating machines that would be needed to construct a Dyson sphere.
