My husband has always wanted to start a business. He's gotten a license or llc for a business in his own life insurance agency and aquarium business but never got past the point of selling or getting a location. (Both different years, not together) Now, his dad and younger brother also always...always... have ideas for businesses too.
Last year, my husband, his dad, and his younger brothers all decided to start a liquor store. Guess who funded the money? My husband and I. Guess what happened? It didn't work out. Why? It actually takes a lot longer to get approved and the steps are pretty steep if you don't have money. First, a location has to be secured then it would take some time to get approved for license to sell, zoning location, and such). My husband and my savings was used to pay for the location 15k. It was the deposit fee and 3 months rent, which I didnt understand why it cost that much but I assumed to secure the location and seriousness of the place. Remember, we had to have a location before we can apply to get approved for a license to sell liquor. I don't know these things but that's what I remember.
So now this time, his brother thought of a food truck. He doesn't have money. My husband hasn't been employed for a few months because he was back in school. It sounded like his brother was asking for money when he clearly knows my husband isn't employed and we have kids. So it seemed like he was reeling my husband in and asking to be business partners to see if my husband can fund it. I really don't want to agree to any business ideas they throw around because the other businesses my husbands dad or brother started, always ended in having to owe IRS money back due to not paying taxes back/filing tax returns. Also, my husband would be throwing away the time he already invested in school. I really don't want my husband and I to end up having to apply for a loan and have that debt if things don't follow through again. I'm the reason we have good credit and a savings and I dont want to throw it all away for another whim on a business. So as reluctant as I was to support him and his brothers/dad, I told my husband they can venture into a business together again on the condition they have an accountant so they can have a proper and orderly business. (Note that my husbands brother already has a current business that is failing so I feel my hesitant support is a valid feeling). So am I being selfish or just looking out for my husband and my future? Any comments?

 | I am building a custom home and working on the master bathroom design. The master bath dimensions are 8'4"x8'. If needed, I might be able to lengthen the bottom right hand corner by a foot using square footage from an adjoining bedroom walk-in closet. We are a bit stumped with the layout, and including all the things we would like (two sinks, big shower, some storage space, and a mounted towel drying rack). We will only be using the shower and are adding the tub for re-sale value as advised by our house designer. There will also be another bathroom with a tub (specifically a showetub combo), as well. Below are a few layouts we are considering. Which do you prefer? 2024.11.25 21:40 apt_get Advice on what to do with non-running 2002 Duramax.
I am in possession of a 2002 Chevy 2500 Duramax with 242K miles. Transmission has 130K miles. Nicer trim with the leather and heated seats and all that. Rust in all the usual places. I know the injectors were done prior to me ending up with it, but that's about all I know. It ran fine when it was parked 2 years ago but hasn't been started since. I spoke to a local diesel mechanic about what it would take to get it running again. He recommends dropping the tank and making sure it's free of algae, replacing fuel filter, oil, batteries, etc. His ballpark was maybe $1500 to safely start it again.
I don't really need this truck and will almost certainly sell it. Were it running it would make a decent work/farm truck. What would it be worth as-is? Would it be worth paying to have fixed and then selling?
This is outside my area of expertise so any advice would be appreciated. Located in Nebraska.
