This is a fascinating topic to me. I played football for a long time and are training programs revolved around a mix of Olympic lifting and powerlifting movements. Most football programs revolve around squats, bench press, and power cleans. Some football programs include heavy front bar deadlifts, while others even include Clean and jerk movements. As you can see, football programs include a mix of both powerlifting and olympic lifting movements.

He also squats 495 and did 29 reps of bench press at the combine, so he could even be a decent powerlifter as well.

Jalen hurts the Quarterback of the Eagles is one of the strongest quarterbacks in the league and his background was purely powerlifting. I've also heard players going into Olympic lifting afterwards. Football is a unique bread of athlete that combines both Olympic lifting characteristics and powerlifting. I have met many powerlifters before who could deadlift a ton of weight but could not power clean a decent amount at all, they just lacked the power and technique of an olympic lifter. I've also met olympic lifters who could clean and jerk a ton of weight but their bench press was seriously lacking. Football players seems to have that unique combo of both olympic lifting power and powerlifting strength, but they are not necessarily all the way one or the other.
Robert Oberst even commented that most football players don't ever do heavy bar deadlifts because of the risk to reward ratio, which I agree, in all my time playing football most guys did hang/power cleans, rarely did I see deadlifts. Jalen hurts would be an exception though, there are certain football programs that do the old school powerlifting approach with heavy deads.
So the big question is, would you say most football players are more suited for powerlifter or Olympic lifter? Another question is which strength sport has more direct carryover to football?
