2024.11.27 17:31 UnbuildingWalls Running afowl (sorry not sorry) of the city's chicken keeping ordinance?
My downpayment fund is finally reaching the level where I plan to start house hunting soon (woohoo!). I really hope to keep some laying hens and have already read over the city ordinance. I also know from experience and reading past posts on here that Riverwest is probably the most chicken friendly neighborhood in the city.
I noticed that the permitting process for raising chickens requires that the enclosure "not be located in the front yard of the dwelling." In my lurking on Zillow over the years, and just experience walking around that neighborhood, I have noticed a lot of small cottages that sit back against the alley on the property line. These cottages often have ample front yards, but no side or back yard. They are also more frequently in my price range, since they are often tiny.
Now, anyone that has spent some time in Riverwest can tell you there are 100% multiple sets of front yard chickens. My question is: are these simply illicit front yard chickens? If so, does anyone know of anyone actually getting busted/had their chickens confiscated/been fined for this?
I know part of the permitting process is getting neighbor approval, so there is never a guarantee your permit to keep chickens will be approved, even if you can meet all the other space requirements. If this is really important to me, should I set myself up for permitting success and only look at homes with back yards (reducing the already tiny amount of housing stock in my price range) or can I trust in the culture of Riverwest not to narc on (well cared for) illicit chickens?

I’m a business office manager at a SNF in California trying to estimate share of cost for a couple.
Details: husband will only be in the facility for short term rehab then he will discharge back to community. Medicare A is paying for his stay, blue cross supplemental covers copays
His wife was at another SNF and exhausted her 100 medicare days. We admitted her so that she and her husband can be together, but she has no insurance coverage so I’m putting in a medi-cal (aka Medicaid) application for her. They only have 3k in the bank and on a home and one vehicle. She will likely remain here long-term with medi-cal paying her room and board.
They have a combined monthly income of $7456, but with the ever changing regs with medi-cal, I’m stumped on how to calculate the share of cost. Since her husband will be discharging home in the future and won’t be here long term, what will his maintenance need/allowance be?
Thanks in advance! I’ll be amazed if anyone knows this. Medi-cal is tricky.

2024.11.27 17:31 Vitamin-D3- Feels like we’ve become too comfortable with the world
It’s easy for a lot of us being born in the time of technological advancements to think that our electronics and entertainment are just a normal part of life but they haven’t even existed for 1% of human history, Jesus never touched anything like this. I think people making excuses that it’s all good and dandy are wrong. I recognise that I can also be wrong but this is starting to make less and less sense to me.
Almost every self proclaimed Christian I’ve met are obsessed certain movies, music, games, TV shows, social media choices and YouTube choices that I deem very unfit for a Christian. A lot of the movie preferences or TV shows are very focused on breaking all Ten Commandments. A lot of murder, adultery, swearing. And Christians love it.
Isn’t this like really worldly? Most Christian’s will recognise that the devil is in control of a lot of these forms of entertainment yet love to indulge in it. Is it not the Christian move to resist these things and live life without them?
Any time I’ve mentioned that people often get irritated acting like these types of entertainment are natural like eating or breathing but I really can’t seem to see it like that.
