So, I just ended my period last week. It did come late, but it still came nonetheless. The thing is, both before and now after my period, one of my boobs, when squeezed, releases a milky looking liquid. Only one, not the other. Does anyone understand why this might be?
It’s never done that before, I think, and I just hope it doesn’t mean anything bad. For reference, I also stopped birth control about a month ago or so.

My birth control and acne struggles have been running mostly in parallel for the last few years but I only just connected some of the dots on how it may have while been making my skin worse this whole time while researching (spiraling) over a huge cyst I have on my face rn.
I originally got on BC because my periods were painful, and I figured not getting pregnant would be cool too. I pretty much had perfect skin and didn’t really think about any benefit BC might have for it. I started on the patch which I figured was less invasive and easy to stop. I’m glad it wasn’t anything that would take a procedure to remove because I ended up with prolonged painful bleeding that I couldn’t stand after 27 days and stopped the patch, which successfully stopped the bleeding. Later that year I got my first small cyst but not knowing what it was, I let it resolve itself, not worrying much. I did start seeing a dermatologist who said it might be worth trying spironolactone but that being on BC would be recommended, I figured I’d try again this time with the ring, and ended up getting a prescription for that and putting off spiro.
This ended up being my worst BC experience. I got the prolonged bleeding again but this time with worse and worse clotting and cramps. Even before BC the cramps I had were awful one night with the ring they were so severe I was writhing in bed thinking hours of pain had passed when I realized it’d hardly been an hour since I tried to sleep. I felt like sobbing when I realized I’d have to walk downstairs to get some ibuprofen. I don’t even remember the way down but I made it to the sofa where my roommate found me delirious in pain. I was shivering on the couch took the ibuprofen and exhaustedly crashed right there. In the middle of the night, somehow now feeling fine, I got up to go back upstairs to my bed and felt something fall. Made it to the bathroom and I’m thankful of having been around on the internet befit to not be as horrified as I could’ve been at what I found. I realized I passed a decidual cast, (it’s when the entire uterine lining sheds in one piece). It was gruesome.
That whole experience freaked me out. I didn’t want to get on anything again for a while. But a year later I found myself hearing same story. That if I wanted to do something more serious to fix my skin (which was still only getting mild acne but was a concern for me), like accutane, BC would even be REQUIRED. I got different opinions around this time about whether I even needed accutane but I went back to the gyn who suggested the last two forms of BC were forms combo estrogen and progesterone and that I should try Norethindrone (Mini pill) which would just be progestin, because estrogen can cause clotting.
I’ve been on Norethindrone for a year and a half now, throughout which I’ve finally better than ever in terms of managing period pain. I mostly skip periods entirely, which feels like a blessing. Little by little though, my skin has only been getting worse. After all this time trying out different BC medications and only ever hearing that they help with acne or being recommended to take them for acne have I really started to look into things. The past few months my skin has gotten severely bad with the same recurring cyst not lessening with heating pads.
I’m looking at more than topical medication and working on diet changes. But I just learned about the distinction between androgenic and newer forms of progestine BC meds, and it seems Norethindrone has been the culprit of people’s acne struggles before.
I’m now torn, do I stop the medication, go back to potentially painful periods and see if maybe it’s what’s been wrecking my skin? Do I try one of the newer versions of progestine which might have a higher risk of clotting, something I’ve struggled with using BC before? Stick it out with Norethindrone and try accutane? Really tired of feeling like I’m experimenting on myself only for things to get worse and worse. I should also note I started and immediately stoped spiro about 2 months ago bc it was causing prolonged bleeding and pain reminiscent of my earlier BC experiences. Anyone been through Norethindrone with acne and saw it resolved? Do I have something else wrong with me that I should get checked? Am I wrong for wanting it all (clear skin and no period pain)?
TLDR; large inflamed cysts may be worsened by the “androgenic” quality of Norethindrone (?) but new gen progestin only BC might have a higher risk of clotting, something that concerned me when I had bad experiences with combination BC
