Not sure if any of y'all Long Islanders are noticing, but the Sound Tig- sorry, Baby Isles, are absolute garbage this year. Presently last in the AHL and haven't won at home since October. I don't think it's been this bad since late 2011-ish when Poulin went down and Joel Martin couldnt get a win in (I think) 10-11 games or so?
Total Mortgage Arena is empty, and I read a funny anecdote how senile Lou 'mortgaged' his talent and now it seems there are few prospects. Attendance averages are only better than Utica and San Jose. Marc Gatcomb is the bright light on a dismal team. Tyce Thompson is -16. Only cool thing is the Fishermen logo is back this year (I think, right?)
The tendies.... I understand there's little help back there for 'em but Tikkannen is having a bad season, Skarek's SavePct hasn't been above .900 EVER... Ken Appleby is doing awesome in Charlotte, albeit with a better team in front of him. They picked up Hunter Miska but he had a rough night in his first North American outing in years.
It's AHL hockey, I know. Just seems like this year especially awful. I can't afford to get up to UBS often but saw a gutless game against the Flyers last year and even up there it seemed kinda lifeless among the crowd. Is it sabotage from Lou and Chris? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!

Yesterday, my Bella died. My husband took her for a morning walk and she collapsed and death was probably instant due to an aneurysm. I m not prepared for this. She was my everything, with me 24 hours a day. I could read her mind. She taught me what unconditional love really is. I really don’t know how to get on after this. There’s a hole in my heart and a crater in our household.

2025.01.19 12:20 ReplacementStrict601 33f anxious attachment style breakup with 38m dismissive avoidant. How I’ve been doing.
A few weeks ago I left my dismissive avoidant finance after enduring months of gaslighting bread crumbing and what I believed to be emotional abuse. We moved in together about 5 months ago and the man I knew and thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with disappeared. Within a couple of days found out about two different infidelities he committed in the beginning of our relationship. I was shocked even though I found out from some pretty intense investigating because something always felt off. Being someone that has survived continuous trauma as a child and young adult has made me like a wolf in a world of dogs. My instincts are very strong and my ability to read patterns and behaviors makes it very difficult for others to mislead me. Then came the drug use I found out he was using and knew when he said he’d stopped he was lying. It was like once I figured him out I couldn’t unfigure him out if that makes sense. We’ve both spent months on an emotional roller coaster that was destroying our sense of self and over all peace. Emotionally I was so let down, it got to the point where he would shut me down over the simplest things. As an anxious avoidant when things started to fall apart I began to internalize and obsess over getting him the help he needs, and helping him see how happy we could be together. All this did was push us further apart which of coarse I again internalized. Eventually I couldn’t take it anymore and I don’t think he could either. He moved out and it’s been pretty difficult. We work together. I’ve been researching and educating myself on both of our attachment styles and I see now we were the perfect storm. I’ve also come to realize this relationship became out of my hands the moment he started using. That I can’t reason with and that I don’t deserve. It has helped me to learn and understand why he did the things he did, and even why I did what I did. Im starting my journey to heal and become the confident secure person I know I was meant to be. I know in time I’ll be greatful for this life lesson that hurts a bit at the moment. Thought I’d share

The title is pretty self-explanatory. I have a fantasy novel I’ve been working on since last year, and I’ve already written 50 chapters, totaling a little over 100,000 words. I know it’s not ideal to release a non-human translation, but I’d like to give it a try anyway. I believe the translation won’t be 100% perfect, and some words or idiomatic expressions might get lost or altered, but I’ll do my best to review everything before publishing.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on this. I’ve heard that translations can be identified and flagged as AI-generated works. Is that true?

Hello !
I’m currently studying in the first year of a MS in maths at a top university in France. Next year I want to aim for one of the top MS in quantitative finance (El-Karoui, M2MO, etc…) in order to try to become a quant researcher in the US.
I heard a PhD is not a prerequisite but in my case it might help me get into the US system. The students from the best MS in quant finance here (DEA El-Karoui) are apparently getting close to none offer from the US (wether it’s internship or jobs).
Therefore, I’m thinking about 2 plans :
- Plan 1: get into a PhD in the US after completing my MS in quant finance.
- Plan 2: directly apply for a job in the US after my MS.
- I don’t come from a US target school.
- Work visa are mostly given to CS and engineers.
My questions are the following :
1- Is it true that getting a quant job in the US as a foreigner is close to impossible (at least as a graduate)?
2- Would being a permanent resident will allow me to get more interviews for a job after my MS ? (Even tho not coming from a US target school might still ruin my chances)
3- If not, is getting a PhD from a top US school a good plan ?

Hi, I know there are tons of posts like these but he'll be my first kid to go to kindergarten so just wanted opinions. My son was born on 7/31 however he was born at 28 weeks gestation and was in the NICU for several months when complications. He had a brain bleed at birth and was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at 18 months old (slight left sided weakness). Most people without a medical background would even notice because his deficits because they are fortunately minor. He is very intelligent and socially has no issues and acts appropriately for his age. He is definitely one of the smallest kids in his class and is behind on some gross and fine motor skills because of his CP. So I guess my question is, would someone hold a child back simply for motor skills/size? Emotionally and cognitively I think he would be fine going to k as a young 5 however I sadly already worry about bullying if he is one of the youngest (he does have a slight limp and has to wear orthotics). Obviously we'll talk more with his teachers and get their opinion but just what to make sure I'm doing what's best for him.
TLDR: son has late July birthday. Emotionally/cognitively probably ready for kindergarten but has mild CP with some gross motor deficits and is very small for age.

Both groups constantly play victim.
Both groups are overly obsessed over what young people are getting "offended" over.
Both groups have this weird obsession with machismo and masculinity, with millennials constantly trying to rip on GenZ for being virgins (literally who cares whether other people are having sex or not?)
Both groups had rampant bullying in high school. (I'm GenZ and I came out in high school, but every millennial I've talked to who come out didn't come out until college or later because they felt they'd be bullied.)
Maybe millennials and boomers shouldn't be at each others' throats all the time. They're more alike than they are different.

2025.01.19 12:20 ChemicalRise Has anyone else had issues trying to list tickets? (Specifically Boston)
I can’t attend the show anymore unfortunately. I’m just trying to sell them at cost, however I keep running into roadblocks. can’t sell them directly through the MLB Ballpark app because it’s locked (transferring works though at least!). StubHub doesn’t have my row properly listed (the “Where are your seats?” Section of the selling page lists row numbers for my section B7 but they are actually row letters. I thought about just listing them with the corresponding row number, but when I contacted SH customer service they said don’t do that and opened a ticket to but I haven’t heard back in over a week. SeatGeek can’t see my tickets even though it’s linked to the ballpark app and there doesn’t seem to be another way to list them since the barcode hasn’t populated yet.
Maybe I just needed to vent lol, but figuring out how to list them has been a headache
