I understand everyone's needs are different based on everyone's specific situation. I'm researching lens options in preparation for my future cataract surgery, and want to be well prepared for the discussion with my surgeon (consultation appt is mid-Feb).
My work is all on the computer. I'm in the software industry, so I spend 8-10 hours a day on my laptop or working on my phone. When I'm not working or playing with the kids, I'm really into sports. Mostly pickleball, basketball, and golf.
I've seen several different lens options, but curious where I should focus based on this info.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations that I should consider and discuss with my dr?

Water company came out and said line wasn't frozen to the meter, so it was my problem. Have had a space heater pointed at the pipes and into the wall near the shutoff valve for about 12 hours but still not getting a drop of water into the house. My plumber referral basically said keep doing what I'm doing... but what is the next step when day 2 comes and there's still no water?

Hi everyone. Today, I was struck by a question. You see, for quite some time, I’ve been working in customer service for the credit card department of a big bank. I never thought about it until today, but is this morally licit for me as a Catholic? Usury has always been condemned by the Church, but I don't understand the concept of usury in Catholic teaching very well. As far as I’ve read, the issue is somewhat debated in the context of modern economics.
Up until now, I’ve understood credit cards as fair game because there is a contract in which you accept the interest rates under certain conditions. At my bank, no interest is charged at all if the cardholder pays the statement balance each cycle (this is clearly stated on every statement). Of course, there are many people who, for various reasons, do not pay the balance each cycle and instead make only the minimum payment, which generates interest (APR of around 20–30%).
My work consists of servicing delinquent customers who call requesting payment assistance for their revolving debt, most often because they are in financial hardship (unemployment, medical bills, etc.). We assist by providing payment plans, which are mostly intended to bring the account current by addressing the past-due amount. I haven’t reflected enough on whether these plans are genuinely helpful or actually predatory. Some customers are not eligible for these plans (eligibility is determined automatically by our system, not manually), and for those who are eligible... I honestly couldn’t say whether the plans truly help them, since I’m not fully aware of their financial situations.
I always pay my statement balance in full every month, so I’ve never paid a penny in interest or fees.
I understand that this issue is complex, and I shouldn’t make moral decisions based on Reddit answers. However, I’d like to hear some opinions that might help me reflect on what I should do about this job. This thought is seriously troubling me, as this is my only source of income and my means of affording my IT career. I also know I’d have a hard time finding another job in a different field. Despite this, I really want to love God and obey His commandments, and I understand that following Him often requires sacrifice.

I like the Gigatron design, yet, I wonder what some deep architectural changes could do if I were to spin my own. It relies on the vCPU interpreter. What features should be in a Harvard RISC machine if you were to make a proper interpreter to allow user code out of RAM?
1. Word Addition/Subtraction: A notable bottleneck in the interpreter is the word addition instruction. The Gigatron lacks a flags register and a proper ADC instruction. I don't know how one would test for a carry without one other than maybe seeing if the resulting number is less than what you started with, and if so, adding 1 to the next address. I get why the Gigatron vCPU interpreter is 16 bits. The overhead is quite heavy so you might as well. So a proper carry flag and ADC instruction or 16-bit addition would help here.
2. Jump tables: I think most folks agree that is one of the best emulation/interpretation strategies. Just jump blindly without polling. But I think it can be improved. The reason the Gigatron doesn't have all the instructions in the vCPU filled in is because there isn't enough room to do all that is needed for all of them. That was why there were originally around 85 and now over 128. To get over 128, some of the instructions are used as prefixes. And even with prefixes, the original limitations would apply. Now, if all 256 slots could be used, you wouldn't need prefixes, and the opcodes would be faster. And we could offer improvements beyond that if we could make the jump table more inline. To do that, support paragraph (or double paragraph) jumps. Thus this jump would temporarily zero the lowest nibble, use D or Ac in place of the 8 middle address bits, and the highest 4 bits can come from Y. If this is too much room, the native code can branch to the handler early. If it is not enough, room can be found elsewhere and you can jump to it.
3. Registers: For some things, it seems more registers could help, and at least limited 16-bit transfers. While I'd love to escape bit-banging, registers for that could help reduce overhead. Perhaps if there are vCPU and bit-banging registers. Maybe even the vCPU could have its own. Let it have its own program counter even.
4. Other things? What host features are good for emulators/interpreters in general? A common pitfall in designing emulation software seems to be not having an easy way to manage flags.

So, I've been contemplating purchasing a new dust extractor to replace my cumbersome shop vac/cyclone setup. The Harbor Freight Hercules Dust Extractor seen like a good option based on the fact that it gets fantastic reviews and is priced well in relation to competitors.
I was looking at the extractor on the HF website and came across a sticker on the receptacle that states the max you can plug into the vac is 3.5 amps. I don't believe any of my tools are that low of an ampacity, what gives? Does anyone have any first hand experience with this dust extractor? I'd like to be able to plug in my track saw which is 13 amps...

So I'm starting a new character for our campaign which is a blend of dungeon crawl and role playing. I have this idea of an eloquence bard who was a spymastecourtier. Slick talking, perceptive and sneaky. I'm conflicted with what to do with my first feat though. Here's my build so far:
Lvl 5, Half elf for +2 charisma, +1 dex and +1 con, perception and persuasion proficiency. Bard proficiencies are stealth, insight and intimidation with expertise in stealth and perception.
Charlatan background for sleight of hand and deception proficiency, disguise and forgery kits.
Point buy: Charisma 17(15+2), Con 16(15+1) dex 14 (13+1) wis 12, strength and intelligence 8.
- At first I was thinking of taking skill expert? This would round out my charisma and get another expertise (sleight of hand or insight) but then I was thinking about something to help in combat.
- Now I'm debating magic initiate for some better damage cantrips and another spell. Maybe sorcerer and take firebolt and mage armor to boost my AC?
- Or war casteressiliant(con) since I'm going to constantly have concentration on some spell.
- Fey touched/shadow touched are some others that would round out my charisma and give me some useful spells
- Telepathic would also round out my charisma and the flavor would work so well for my spy character.

My boyfriend (21M) and I (22F) broke up 3 days ago after being together for a bit over a year. While I definitely was the one who was more unhappy in the relationship, ultimately it seemed to become a mutual decision. We broke up because we just felt like we were too different to both be happy together long term.
Despite being unhappy and having thoughts about ending the relationship for weeks, now that it’s over I am just heartbroken and feel so lost. I have been uncontrollably crying and everything reminds me of him. We love each other so much. I don’t know when or if I will ever stop loving him.
Somehow my brain has contorted every single reason we broke up into something endearing, or something that isn’t enough of a big deal to break up. But I know it was the right choice, and he does too. I just miss him more than anything. And I didn’t think I would miss someone this much that I felt unhappy with.
I feel like time is moving so slowly and I can’t get through another day like this. We said an official goodbye yesterday when we exchanged our things, and this morning waking up was the most pain I have ever been in. How can I miss someone so much that I know I wasn’t happy with? I’m so used to him comforting me when I’m sad, and now that he can’t (and he wanted no contact) I just feel broken. Even distractions aren’t really helping, he has been on my mind every single second since we broke up.
How do I get through this knowing that to stop missing him, it means I have to stop thinking about him and move on? I feel stuck in between knowing it’s for the best but also somehow wanting the relationship back, even though I know I’m just idealizing him.
