2025.01.22 16:01 Dantekamar Has Elon denied making a Nazi salute?

It's been a few days since Elon Musk made that gesture during the inauguration, and he's had time to respond. Has anyone seen any examples of him denying making the Roman/Nazi salute or even denouncing Nazis in general?
If yes, please show your example and rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 how much of a denial it is. For example, Musk has called the Nazi accusations old and tired. I would rate that only a 2 because he doesn't deny anything, just implies he doesn't like the accusation. Please rate any examples given in your response to them as well.
This question is open to all political sides. This is not intended as a discussion over if he did or did not make the Nazi salute, or if anyone else ever did.

Adams says NYC is coordinating with ICE as mass migrant deportations loom | Fox News Adams, a Democrat, said that migrants who commit violent crimes in the Big Apple would be dealt with by federal agencies despite the city’s sanctuary city laws.
"There is a lot of room, we already have task forces with federal partners," Adams said when asked if his administration can work ICE and at the same time comply with its sanctuary city law, which limits cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

2025.01.22 16:01 libsoutherner Measuring Consistency in NASCAR with Average Plus Standard Deviation (APS)

Measuring Consistency in NASCAR with Average Plus Standard Deviation (APS) Measuring Consistency
Consistency is something often talked about in the sport, but there doesn’t really seem to be any measure that is widely used to assess it. Instead, people tend to look at a driver’s number of top 5s, top 10s, or average finish as justification for that driver being consistent or inconsistent.
The biggest problem with this is that the number of top 5s or top 10s a driver has says nothing about their finishes outside the top 5 or top 10. There’s a huge difference between 11th and 40th, but that is not captured when looking at a driver’s top 10 rate.
The primary problem with average finish is that… well, it doesn’t measure consistency at all.
Take Driver A for example. Let’s suppose that driver wins the Daytona 500 and then gets involved in an incident and finishes 23rd in Atlanta. Now consider Driver B who finishes 12th in both races. Both drivers would have the same average finish after two races, but clearly Driver B was much more consistent, finishing in the exact same spot in both races.
Average Plus Standard Deviation (APS)
I attempted to come up with a measure that mitigates some of the concerns that arise from solely looking at top 5s, top 10s, or average finish.
The measure has two primary components. The first component is the standard deviation of all of that driver’s finishes during the year. For those that may be unfamiliar, standard deviation measures how “spread out” a set of numbers are. In the example above, where Driver A has finishes of 1st and 23rd and Driver B had finishes of 12th and 12th, Driver A would have a standard deviation of 11, while Driver B has a standard deviation of 0. With 0 being less than 11, this would mean Driver B was more consistent, which logically makes sense as both finishes were exactly the same.
However, the issue with only using standard deviation is that back markers tend to have very low standard deviations. This is because they finish close to last every race. A driver who finishes 40th every single race would have a standard deviation of 0 but clearly that driver wasn’t consistent. They just sucked.
To mitigate this issue, the second component of the measure is average finish. The better a driver finishes, the more difficult it is to maintain that finish over the course of a whole season. For example, it is very easy to finish last every race, but it is impossible to finish in the top 5 every race. So being “better” makes being consistent much more difficult, and thus having a low standard deviation much more difficult.
To holistically capture consistency, I take the standard deviation of all of a driver’s finishes in a season and add it to their average finish, making the measure APS. The lower the APS, the more consistent the driver was.
The spirit behind the measure is similar to OPS in baseball (On-Base plus Slugging). In baseball, a high on-base percentage isn’t as valuable if all a player does is get walks and single. Extra base hits are much more valuable, hence slugging being added to on-base percentage. Here, having a very low standard deviation doesn’t mean much if you’re finishing at the back every week. Hence, adding average finish. So this is kind of like the NASCAR version of OPS.
2024 APS
The pictures posted show APS for the 2024 season. Chase Elliott was far and away the most consistent driver, three full points below anyone else.
Chris Buescher also had a very consistent season, despite missing the playoffs, as did Ross Chastain and Bubba Wallace. These drivers weren’t necessarily at the front every week, but did a good job of keeping their car clean.
Carson Hocevar had the lowest standard deviation in the series of 7.70, bringing him in at 11th. Champion Joey Logano came in at 18th
Christopher Bell
Now let’s study the peculiar case of Christopher Bell. He had the second best average finish on the season and the most top 10s. Traditional thought would lead you to say he was very consistent in 2024.
However, this measure reveals that isn’t quite the case. Bell had the second highest standard deviation on the season, only ahead of Ryan Blaney. This was driven by 8 finishes of 34th or worse and dropped his OPS down to 10th overall. With 23 top 10s and 8 finishes of 34th or worse, this means he only had 5 finishes between 11th and 33rd creating a large disparity in his finishes. It was more of a boom or bust season for Bell than a consistent season.
APS in Championship Seasons
I also calculated the APS for each champion since the inception of the Gen 4 era (1992). The most consistent champion in that time may surprise you: Bobby Labonte in 2000 with an APS of 13.76, beating Gordon’s 1998 season, which came in at 14.28. Labonte had an average finish in 2000 almost two places higher than Gordon, but had a much lower standard deviation. Labonte only had 3 finishes worse than 13th and his worst finish was 26th, while Gordon had two finishes in the 30s.
The championship seasons that had the worst APS were 2024 Logano (28.78), 2014 Harvick (26.00), and 2016 Johnson (25.73). Harvick may be the surprising entry on this list to some - but he had an incredibly boom or bust season in 2014. In fact, he had the highest standard deviation for any driver in any season I have calculated so far at 13.09.
Summary
APS is by no means perfect. There isn’t a single statistical measure that is perfect. More than anything, this was just a product of my own curiosity. I had a ton of fun putting this together and hope you enjoy it too.

2025.01.22 16:01 jackvismara I just watched Rogue One, and I cried

For some reason I never watched Rogue One. I decided to give it a try and although it's definetly not my favorite Star Wars movie, it's the only one so far that made me drop a tear.
The last 15 minutes are devastating - a perfect example of what the Rebellion truly stands for and of the power of the force. I also liked the planet of Scarif a lot, really well designed imo.
I guess emotions were just running high at the end because I've never shed a tear for a Star Wars movie before, not even the most tragic one. I feel like if you just watch R1 without watching any other SW movie beforehand, it's not as effective. But knowing the entire saga, what's coming aftert & what happened before make this movie really powerful.
